Hi! I'm a lab tech and I am sooooo happy and excited to see that you went in the lab to see what our job is. I'm so happy that my job will finally be seen by people because we work "in the dark" 😅 Nobody sees what our job really is and how important it is to patient care. I'm looking forward to this episode. Thank you for doing this 😁
I agree about the fragility of life. My wife has recurrent ovarian cancer and are preparing for when she passes. One of things we have started doing is spend much more time just sitting next to each other hugging and talking from our hearts, sometimes crying, sometimes remembering the wonderful life we’ve had together. Good for you for slowing down for a bit and spending quality time together.
My wife has one chemo infusion left. She’ll have a CT scan to see if the cancer is gone this time. The cancer took about 6 months to return last time, so we’ll see what happens now.
She is not good. She has been found to be platinum resistant now, which severely limits options. They are wanting to try an experimental procedure using immunotherapy. Insurance won’t cover it (big surprise) but the drug company has a special program we’ve applied for that drastically lowers the cost.
As some one in nursing school, I can officially say I hope you take this time for yourself. Enjoy your hike don’t worry about videos or anything but being in the moment. I can only imagine the stress of medical school. You have earned this time. Congratulations.
I'm gonna be 100% honest here Siobhan, this video honestly left me semi speechless. Not because I'm like sad or disappointed in any way because I am most defiantly not but because I'm just amazed about how far You, your RUclips Audience and me personally have come in watching these videos as I think I have been watching your Videos for almost a year now and the amount of things I have learned from watching these videos is to me just amazing. Like through out this video when you were reflecting on your time doing call shifts I was kind of asking myself through questions as well. Like I may only be 17 and turning 18 in less than a month and you are undoutably older than me Siobhan but I think those questions are really really deep (obviously to me) and to be honest I almost feel like I won't really understand the value of them until I get older and probably graduate college and find a permanent job for my career. Anyway, this comment is long enough as it is by my standers so to finish it off. I'm really really excited and happy for you that you and mark get to go on a trip to Italy and possibly rome and I hope that you guys have an absoluly wonderful and eye opening time!!! You guys are absolutely positively 100% awesome and keep up the absolutely amazing work!!!! You guys have inspired us (Your RUclips audience) so much and I can't wait to see what you guys end up doing in the future!!!
What initially caught my eye on your videos was your excitement and happiness when you talk. It is so rare these days. Good luck on your future endeavors!
Yaaaaaaaaay! Congratulations! I can’t believe I’ve been following you for so long back when I wanted to go to Med school. I’ve taken a break on school to pursue my business but watching you along the way has been beautiful. I feel the same way lol trying to figure out life more now than ever because I feel like I’m close to 30 and want to make sure I’m fulfilled and not just working until I retire. I want to enjoy it 🤍✨also it’s crazy you’re going to Italy. My neighbor and I talked about taking a trip two days ago.
Hi Siobhan! I was so excited to see that you’d be shadowing flight paramedics. My uncle dedicated much of his life to the BC Ambulance Service’s Infant Transport Team, and flew thousands of babies from remote communities in BC to Vancouver hospitals. Hearing his stories put into perspective how crucial flight paramedics are in rural areas. Unfortunately, he passed away from cancer in 2016, but I think he’d be happy to know the visibility you’re giving to people like him, who worked a lesser known job within the medical field. I hope you have a lovely trip and I can’t wait for what your future holds!
I'm so, so happy for you Siobhan! I'm also very grateful to everything you've done for us, and your courage to tell the world about your life and experiences as a doctor. It's been an amazing journey to follow you on, and I'm hoping you'll love this next chapter of your life!
I am glad you’re taking the time off to be happy. It’s a privilege you have earned with every exam you have taken, skill you learned, patient your word’s have comforted and colleague who’s work you have used your platform to draw attention too. After such intense work in recent years you deserve to play your violin and exercise and spend time with Mark. I hope you feel comfortable sharing small bits of your hiking but I will fully understand it if you want it to be private and I will look forward to seeing you back when you feel ready for RUclips again. Thank you for sharing your plans.
Great aspect on life. As a composer, strangely, I see many talented musicians pursuing medicine, like yourself. If you ever want new music, I would be happy to provide you with the music that I have written for violin. I am currently getting my Masters degree in Music for Film and Television. Anyway, congratulations on all of your dedication. It's amazing and such an honor how upfront and honest you are with your journey.
I'm so excited for your (and your husband's) future, both as doctors but also in your personal lives! You both certainly deserve a break, relaxation, and fulfillment, and I'm so glad you two are working to prioritize that. I look forward to seeing any videos you do choose to create and share. Your videos make me feel excited to discover my passions and work hard to create a better world for others as well as a better life for myself.
You are seriously one of the most incredible and inspiring RUclipsrs/women I’ve ever seen. Your drive and compassion is beautiful .. if more people had your compassion the world would be a better place. Please never stop whining your light on the world!
I'm glad you guys are taking time for yourselves! Only share what you want and when you really want to, not if you feel you should. It can be a written post, a picture, maybe even a 5 second clip that you're not even in it's just the scenery. If you never share anything from this adventure that's okay too. You can't pour from an empty cup so it's really important to remember your goal in all of this. We'll still be here when you get back.
I was just watching your old on-call vlogs for some inspiration and I see this on my notification - My day has been made! Huge congratulations on successfully completing residency!!
First of all, congratulations on everything! You definitely deserve a break after such a long marathon. Your smile is so contagious from how happy you are about your upcoming journey! I just hope we get a glimpse of your amazing life.
I love this idea. You two deserve this vision quest! I hope you come back refreshed and get everything you want out of the experience. I did 6 years of college (that was enough for me) and I was very fortunate to have an enjoyable summer, filled with a few fun-filled vacations and our (2 years later) incredible honeymoon.
I’m so happy for you and your husband that you two are taking time for yourself. I hope you have an incredible time. As curious as I am, and would love to see the journey, I fully respect your choice to not share it. I hope it feeds your soul with all the things it needs ❤️
I stumbled across your channel several years ago and found your enthusiasm for medicine and path to becoming a doctor compelling. Congratulation on finishing the grueling schooling and training. I know it's not easy always being so upbeat and positive but you have always been a refreshing stop in the morass of RUclips content. Best wishes.
Your viewers respect you for who you are, in and out of medicine. This sounds like an amazing adventure! Whatever you feel like sharing, we will appreciate it! And whatever you don‘t want to share along the way- that‘s okay too! We will cheer you on every step of the way!
Thank you Siobhan for your lovely medical videos. You are a good violin player Siobhan and same time you became a successful doctor by studying the medicine. I'm proud of you Siobhan. You are a good medical specialist and a rheumatologist
you are so awesome - I watched you in downtime during my entire nursing school journey. Share what you want! we would love to see your views and experiences but you never have to share more than what you want as far as the personal aspect. So happy for you - your hard work is paying off!! enjoy your time with your husband!! Your time in the rural villages and temporary places will be life changing I'm sure!
Oh Siobhan, I have been watching Violin MD since you were a brand new Resident! I am so happy to see you working with Paramedics! I am an EMS provider I NYS who cannot Wait for that video! Congratulations on your new adventures!!!
I'm so excited for the next round of videos. Best of luck on your journey through Europe and on the locums you and Mark take on while you're there. Still mind boggling to think you're a board certified specialist now!
Congratulations Siobhan! I’ve loved seeing your informative, inspiring videos over the years. Hope you and your husband enjoy the hike and take the time to grow, reflect, have fun, and relax after years of hard work👏🏻💪🏻💕
I took a moment after I left my comment to read some of the other comments. What beautiful and kind and true things are being said to you. Wow so much positivity towards you and so deserved!
This is so insane, I am a medical student and I have been following you since you were in your 3rd-year residency, and I am very happy for you for achieving this great achievement. I am so proud of you for what you have gone through during your residency and also excited for your next journey 🧡 Lots of love from Cambodia
I can't wait to see all the fun stuff you're up to! I am applying to occupational therapy graduate programs within the next few weeks so I'm absolutely thrilled to hear you'll be investigating a rehabilitation setting! Much love, Siobhan!
I did two different 6 months trips through Europe when I was a little bit younger and a little bit older than you. It was the best thing I ever did in terms of getting a broader perspective on my life and the experiences i wanted to have moving forward. Saw some amazing things and met amazing people who I’m friends with to this day. You will have the experience of a lifetime and you both more than worked hard enough to enjoy it before the next chapter begins.
I'm a lab technician at Stratford General...and I am SO EXCITED that you will be sharing experiences from these different roles. Especially the lab as we are all feeling awfully forgotten about right now.
I'm a lab tech too and I'm very excited! We often feel forgotten... I feel that it is worst now with the COVID. On lab tech week this year, my government said something like "thank you for your hard work with COVID testing". Like what?? We do waaay more than that and people don't even know 😂
Siobhan, I am soooo happy for you and your husband. I’m so excited to see new adventures! Congrats to your hard work and achievements. Can’t wait to see more ❤️
I’ve know multiple Doctors personally through my life. Its so interesting to talk to someone and know that they’re objectively smarter. It doesn’t make me feel bad its just like, “yep, thats a high IQ”. Thats a feeling that’s reinforced when watching you. Thoughts and feelings expressed eloquently through words. I think the things that you say are things most people feel but also lack the ability to verbalize it or to consciously reflect on.
I think that anyone is capable of becoming a doctor and that IQ is a very small factor in deciding intellectual ability. If you have a true passion for medicine (or whatever you want to be), and put in the effort and study time, you’ll be able to become whatever you’d like.
@@thatguy720 not to be argumentative, but of you took a random sample of doctors, tested their IQ, and then compared that average to the national average, the doctors would score higher. IQ tests aren’t perfect but its a standardized measurement. IQ I think is a good indicator of how quickly one can grasp new concepts. So in theory, someone of average intellect could become a doctor, but they’d need to apply themselves more. It’s also possible that intelligent is directly correlated to the ability to focus. Improving the ability to study.
@@sherbthesuperb3905 I 100% agree with you on that. But I also believe that IQ isn’t something you’re born with, it’s something that you develop over time during the years of the most rapid learning (from when you’re a baby throughout middle and high school). Im sure genetics is an aspect of it as well but yes, theoretically anyone can become a doctor. Doctors would definitely score higher in IQ AND EVEN MORE IN EQ! than the average person, because the average the person doesn’t work as hard as and challenge their brain as much as a doctor would. The reason that I say IQ isn’t necessarily a big factor in how sophisticated someone is to become a doctor is because there are so many doctors with mental “obstacles” such as ADHD or ADD which are conditions that pretty much eliminates all attentive properties and the ability to focus. These people usually score less than the average IQ score (100), but are still able to study and withstand the rigorous workload that pre - doctoral students must complete. Like you said, they are a good indicator of how quickly someone can grasp concepts, but that’s only one skill a student may need to learn. Thanks for chatting! 👍
@@thatguy720 I didn't read everything because your first sentence opinion shows me enough that you have no clue of what IQ comes from. IQ is definitely a mix of nature and nurture. Meaning that you are born with a certain IQ(depending on genetics and conditions while being in mother's womb) and is also affected by the environment as you grow up. But, it is almost 50/50 where you are less likely to ever have high IQ if the conditions in mother's womb or genetics were bad no matter the living conditions.
@@josephdahdouh2725 If you read my entire comment you would see that I addressed later on that there’s definitely some aspect genetics in your intelligence quotient. I do indeed understand how IQ works, but you aren’t exactly born with a specific IQ. There are genetic factors that influence your IQ score but I also believe it heavily depends on your environment. Saying I have no idea where IQ comes from is an ignorant move. Also, it’s far more agreed in the scientific community that IQ’s aspects are far more Nurture than Nature. There have been numerous studies done to prove this and you also just said something that sounds like you think womb development is nature rather than nurture. Genetics is only pre-developing, meaning that once you start gestation in the womb, that’s NURTURE. Regardless, I hope you have a great day.
I've been watching for a couple years and I am so happy for you!!! Your personality is beautiful & very inspiring. Go Siobhan!!! ❤️❤️❤️ Take time for yourself and grow & thrive!! Don't worry about your subscribers here ... If you don't want to share we will support you and be here for you when you get back!!
Happy to hear you’re doing this for yourself! I’ve been watching on and off for a while now… since you were a student, and it’s so insightful and especially inspiring to see your journey💖
Whenever i feel lazy to do my work, i just watch your videos and remember the reason why im doing it and my end goal to become a doctor!! Gonna get my butt up and do my homework now.
Congratulations!!!!!!!! I can’t believe I’ve been following you since you first started the residency. Your journey helped me to get a more realistic idea of the healthcare field and now I’m going to pharmacy next year!!!! Thank you so much for sharing your journey and looking forward for your future videos!!!!!
So excited for you! Very happy you are taking us with you and your husband. Being with the flight docs should be so interesting. I am grateful to learn new things as you go on your journey! Thanks for not leaving us behind. Happy Trails and Travel!!!!
That vision quest sounds incredible!!!! I love watching your videos you’re so inspiring Siobhan!!!! Thank you for giving us a glimpse into the world of medicine!!! ❤️
Dear Siobhan, although it would be wonderful follow on your journey backpacking, there are countless youtubers who have documented these things so if you need this time for you and Mark-take it! Congratulations on your title. It's such a massive achievement and what an inspiration and teacher you are to us all!
I'm really excited for your video about stroke rehab! I'm an occupational therapist at a sub-acute rehab facility and it always surprises me how few people know what my job entails. Working in a rehabilitation setting is so rewarding and I wish more people knew about it!
I know what you do for patients. It’s incredible. My partner has leukaemia and then crashed with GBS twice. He learnt how to feed himself because OTs looked for ways to adapt spoons etc, to shave, to live and then to regain his Independence Day by day and that’s thanks to people like you. So sincerely thank you.
Best of luck to you and Mark!! My family and I did the Inca Trail in Peru and that was the most difficult and life changing experience I've ever had. Congrats on everything! Hopefully you'll take us along with you but either way - enjoy your time over there! :)
As always, you make me smile :) I will be waiting for you in Bulgaria, check out Rila & Pirin mountains, 7 Rila Lakes especially! I am also so excited for what’s about to come next as content in your channel. Thank you for all insights & inspiration ❤️
I'm so excited for your journey, enjoy every moment and i can't wait to see your coming up videos. You are amazing. I still remember your night shift videos and your pager going off all the time while you were trying to get a little rest.
Siobhan, I appreciate you sharing glimpses of your journey but honestly, I wouldn't mind waiting 3 months or a year while you take time for yourself. I appreciate the tought but you deserve it! As long as I know you'll be back, all is good with me and I'm sure many of your supporters. Thank you for all the interesting and educational content and congratulations on your next journey!
I'm so happy for you! Have as much fun as you can... cause you truly deserve it. Can't wait to see the content you've prepared for us! Thank you from the bottom of my heart! You are a role model in every sense...!
You are doing the best thing by taking a very much needed vacation with physical and emotional demands to feel healthy again! You are smart in knowing you need to get back into balanced way of living. The plan you have to visit different local communities that are short staffed is awesome too. You really are nailing it in life!!! Love Your Videos ❤️
Siobhan, you are so amazing. You have such a clear thought pattern and are so mature. I am so proud of you and LOVED watching you grow over the years! Have a great time with Mark. You both have earned it.
@Violin MD Dear Dr. Siobhan, wow BEST video to watch today. I am so happy that you and your hubbie are doing this. One needs time out to refresh...body, mind, soul and emotions in order to not stagnate and not fall into a rut, acting robot like at one's job. I hear you on what the journey of self discovery and transition, especially after such an excruciating time, pandemic wise. I had to give up my health care profession in order to look after my vulnerable, frail elderly parents and in the last 2 years I realised, wow...I can't go back to my old job. I need to do something totally different as I wasn't feeling fufilled at my job for such a long time. I know I will end going on my vision quest in time... I am so excited out to see your future videos, giving us glimpse into other areas of health care and to learn more about them.
Only halfway thru the video but I just want to say- SO ecstatic to hear you are taking a career break/travel break! I recently finished some school in January and did the same thing myself and I’m just now getting back to re-entering the workforce full-time. I learned so many things about myself through this and found my personal (partial) answer of what makes life fulfilling. Still on this journey, today and everyday, redefining my personal definitions of joy, success and overall happiness/health (: Enjoy your time together! Make memories! A world awaits, 🍻Cheers!
A Big Congratulations! Well deserved! My daughter who turns 27 in a few days, has put off attending medical school for the last 3 years. She and her fiancé have been backpacking the world for 3years and visited 30 countries, so far. Her dad and I encouraged her to do this because we felt it would give her such an amazing, well rounded, and global view of life. And it has!!! Currently, she works remotely as a scribe for her dad (MD) and they also do work-stays. For instance, while in Iceland, they stayed and worked on a dairy farm for 30 days, a winery in Bulgaria. We always seem to put off many amazing life experiences, thinking we will do them in the future or when we retire, then ending up putting it off all together. I wish you a well deserved time off!
Your plans sound wonderful! I did L.T. in a small outlying hospital that was part of the Mayo Clinic system while waiting to sit for my jurisprudence exam for Texas licensure (offered only twice per year). I loved seeing how other places do the same tasks, and the people I met there. You two stay safe out there!
Thank you! I've really enjoyed your journey to this point.. I've had the opportunity to spend a lot of time over the past ten years with doctors and surgeons. Just had a massive spinal surgery recently. thanks for all you , but I am happy that you and Mark are taking this time for yourselves and each other.. it goes by too quickly. Best wishes!! Frank in Colorado
Found this video just now, and I wish I’d seen this earlier! I also just finished residency (still haven’t finished research yet tho, but not doing shifts anymore). This puts so much of my current situation into perspective because I’ve been suffering an existential crisis on what my life will be like now that I’m not in residency anymore. Thank you so much!
I can't wait for the the videos on other professions! I love your docs videos, but these are just awesome, how much respect you have for their expertise is great and I love learning so much
I would love to see how this hike is going to look like and what answers to this important questions you will find. I was thinking of something similar myself and I'm sure I'm not the only one in this yt community. So I believe you could help a lot of us with sharing your personal story in the comming year 😊
As someone who went from pursuing music to clinical psychology, I’ve always seen you as a beacon for my future. Thank you so much for giving us a glimpse of your journey.
I cannot express this enough, this is such an awesome and important move for you guys! When you’re young without kids, now is the time to go out there in the world and experience the most you can! Learn as much as you can- this journey will take you to places you never thought possible. So excited for your next journey!
You left me teary-eyed. I am incredibly proud of you! All your dreams are coming true! Congratulations Sibbion, you deserve to live your dreams. Have fun, and I can't wait for the next chapter, Doctor👏👏🌹
Your drive is inspiring! You're truly meant to be a doctor!

Siobhan already seems like the most well rounded and grounded person. They deserve some down time and I hope they have a wonderful experience. 💕

I'm so excited for the next round of videos. Best of luck on your journey through Europe and on the locums you and Mark take on while you're there. Still mind boggling to think you're a board certified specialist now!
I have been following you since your first year as a resident, i have no words, you are incredible, best of luck.
I don't know what to say! You're phenomenal Siobhan! 🥳💜 You and Mark deserve this. Enjoy your accomplishments and have fun ⛰️🚶♀️🌎🚶🏼
So excited for all these videos! I hope you and your husband have the best time hiking together and make the best memories! xx
Like what?? We do waaay more than that and people don't even know 😂
Thank you for your service
@@karinegendron2695 thank you so much for what you do
Siobhan, I am soooo happy for you and your husband. I’m so excited to see new adventures! Congrats to your hard work and achievements. Can’t wait to see more ❤️
My best wishes to you and Mark, looking forward to seeing your ventures
Congrats! Sounds like an awesome trip! I’d love to see more of Mark being a doctor too!!
Wow! That's all so exciting! I'm really looking forward to seeing all you have in store for us! Be safe, have fun, and be blessed on your journey!
I'm so incredibly excited for you Siobhan! Thank you for sharing your journey with us. Your videos never fail to inspire me!

Happy to hear you’re doing this for yourself! I’ve been watching on and off for a while now… since you were a student, and it’s so insightful and especially inspiring to see your journey💖

This sounds incredible! You have some pretty great intentions going into this big trip. Congratulations, you've earned it!
I’m so happy for you! I hope that y’all are able to see all that you want to see and enjoy yourselves as much as possible.
Best of luck to you and Mark!! My family and I did the Inca Trail in Peru and that was the most difficult and life changing experience I've ever had.
Congrats on everything! Hopefully you'll take us along with you but either way - enjoy your time over there! :)
I've been watching your videos the last couple of years and I think your energy for life is inspiring.
Wow, so exciting! I wish both you and Mark nothing but the best on this amazing and well deserved new life journey!
Congratulation on Residency passing and now taking time for yourself and explore the world through hiking. There is so much to see.
As always, you make me smile :) I will be waiting for you in Bulgaria, check out Rila & Pirin mountains, 7 Rila Lakes especially! I am also so excited for what’s about to come next as content in your channel. Thank you for all insights & inspiration ❤️
Oo thanks for the suggestions!!
There is nothing like being in the silence and stillness of nature during times of transitions. Good luck and enjoy thoroughly. Be safe.
Congratulations Siobhan! ❤️ have a fantastic time hiking, it’ll be such a beautiful journey for you both xxx
wow hiking in europe! i’ve always wanted to do that but never thought as deeply into it as you have. have an incredible time!
15 years is a crazy long time, I don’t think I would have the patience 😭so proud of you!
Siobhan, you are so amazing. You have such a clear thought pattern and are so mature. I am so proud of you and LOVED watching you grow over the years! Have a great time with Mark. You both have earned it.
My friend did the hike through Europe thing. It led him to get his PhD and now he works with the CDC. 💜 I think this is a great plan!
Still on this journey, today and everyday, redefining my personal definitions of joy, success and overall happiness/health (:
Enjoy your time together! Make memories! A world awaits, 🍻Cheers!
Also, you are very lucky to have a partner that is willing and wanting to embark on such a journey with you! What a great life moment together.
Always excited when I see your notifications. I'm so happy for you!! And wish you all very best for your future ahead 💕
I love your docs videos, but these are just awesome, how much respect you have for their expertise is great and I love learning so much
Thanks!
Thank you Mary!
so absolutely happy for you!! rheumatology is so fascinating 💜💜
As an occupational therapist, I’m so stinking excited for you and your plans! I can’t wait for the videos!!
I would love to see how this hike is going to look like and what answers to this important questions you will find. I was thinking of something similar myself and I'm sure I'm not the only one in this yt community. So I believe you could help a lot of us with sharing your personal story in the comming year 😊
I'm a 76 year old guy and am so proud of both of you. I will be following your adventures along the way to Hope and Health. Take care....👍👍💕💕
Girl I remember watching one of your first videos when I was 11. I’m almost 17 now. I’m just blown away by the amount of passion and accomplishment
You left me teary-eyed. I am incredibly proud of you! All your dreams are coming true! Congratulations Sibbion, you deserve to live your dreams. Have fun, and I can't wait for the next chapter, Doctor👏👏🌹
