For me this song really dives into the current relationship between artists/fans, the way celebrity worship can turn on a dime and the need to be seen as a fully flawed human being instead of an archetype. With modern day social media us fans have more access than ever to the inner lives of our favourite musicians... that can't be easy for them to navigate. What if you want to just make music, and get told you're a role model now? I have to wonder how that affects your art. A great song really makes you think about these things!
If any of you guys are still wondering what your fans see in you we see a talented and hard-working musician who never gave up on her dreams and shares all of her beautiful music with us.
This one is giving the lonely morning after of Grow Up Tomorrow - when the party stops, you reflect on who you are, what you accomplish, and begin to doubt your worth, your life path, everything. It's so vulnerable and like others have said, it folds in that layer of the messy complexities of parasocial relationships and idol worship on social media. Absolutely solid track. Love it, trumps a bunch of BME tunes and they're no slouches so that says something.
What a great song and a fascinating musing on your own fame. Everyone is jealous of Jocelyn right now. Keep headlining famous venues, music like this is why they all keep coming!
I think I did this to my cousin, I idolized her and it wasn't fair. I want to love her for the amazing person she is now, not thinking she is/needs to be perfect. Everyone song strikes a rip chord🎉
Hyped up to see you ladies perform at fest2fall on Friday and Jocelyn at midnight tn!! Signed, another female Jordan from the GTA turned-singer who's obsessed w THE BEACHESSSSS
@@thebeachesband I wonder if Jordan has ever heard the song "Pedestal" by Alanis Morissette which came out a few years ago. Ironically (no, I'm not making a pun from Alanis' song "Ironic") both Alanis and Jordan are actually putting the people that they're writing about (or to) on a pedestal. Don't you see? If you're gonna write a song about (or to) every loser in this world, you're gonna have to write billions of songs. It's easier to break their necks than to deal with how they feel (and it would've made a better sound and spectacle than what I hear and see in this video).
I was in Toronto a month ago visiting ol stomping grounds. I visited the ol Beaches area and its changed a bit from the last time I was there which was 20 years ago. One thing that remains the same is the talent thats coming from there. The music vibe was great then and these young ladies are a testament that merged from that music scene. oh another great song I might add
If you listen carefully, Brett gets a nod in this song as well. "I emptied out the jerseys and the boxers from the middle drawer, but I still kept the complex that *he* gave me when *he* cut the cord." Whoever transcribed the lyrics didn't listen closely enough.
Such a great song. True craftsmanship by a band that's firing on all cylinders. And that key change! I dunno how Jordan's vocal cords are going to manage that night after night...bourbon maybe? 😁
After listening to this song a couple of dozen times I've noted the following points of interest: 0:01 for me the melody has a bit of a spooky vibe 0:12 and 1:31 cool bassline during the verse 0:39 pre-chorus that is never repeated 0:51 and 1:50 drum groove during the chorus really brings up the intensity and so catchy too. 2:45 love how Jordan does a choked up voice saying the name Jocelyn - gives it emotional weight 3:21 everyone gets a nice big sustain on the last note except Kylie? C'mon that's not fair.
dropping a music vid at such a late time of day is interesting. edit: oh it's just a lyric one but still cool! Really glad to have seen you guys live in Manchester a few weeks back and took my dad also :)
We’ve reached the golden era. Im the most passive fan imaginable, but as a musician-- Jordan and this band has mastered the art of familiar+new. They will be multi multi multi platinum. I’m sure one day they’ll look back and wish for the blame Brett days and earlier. Gonna be crazy famous. Hope it’s everything you wanted.
Jordan's voice is going next level. What a performance.
Whoever Jocelyn is, is literally the luckiest person alive right now❤❤❤❤
Jocelyn is some sort of fan, according to the band.
