Hi Carl I am really enjoying your channel. I am a novice collector with about a dozen Acers which I have collected over the last three years. I find there is quite a learning curve as all the trees are different in how they respond to location, watering, feed and pot size. I bought a beautiful red variety which went down hill very fast, so I decided to repot and found that it was water logged even though I had used the same compost mixture and grit as all the others. It seems to be responding so fingers crossed. I picked up another unamed acer from Lidl last year and decided to put it in the ground as I didnt have a suitable pot. It has grown from around 60cm to well over 2 metres in that time and is so healthy, so it just shows how different they all are. I will follow your channel as you have a very relaxing style . Great work !!!
@@davidjennings9253 thanks David and glad your enjoying the content 👍 Your absolutely right they are all different and perform differently with varied locations. Just calling 2000+ cultivars Japanese maples makes folk think they are all the same perhaps? 🤔 Thanks for posting, Carl
Such beautiful trees. Thanks for the interesting video. I live in Japan, but haven't got my hands on a Japanese maple yet. I'll probably keep it/ them in a pot until I'm sure where it's the best spot for it, as you said. Summer is brutal here. I'm from the uk and went to Tatton Park about 8 years ago, but I don't remember the Japanese garden. I'll have to go back next time I visit. Thanks again for sharing your knowledge.
Hi Carl, have you done anything to protect during this cold week, i mulched in the autumn and bubble wrapped a little, hoping this is enough to get them through the winter 🤞
Great work Carl! Love the channel.
Thanks Jeremy, glad you’re enjoying the content. Good of you to take the time to post. Carl

Very kind of you, do go to Westonbirt too if you can, it’s the best selection of maples in the Western hemisphere 👍
Thanks for all your hard work Carl.

In the winter here in the UK I have not done anything special. Just mulch on top as Acers are hardy in my zone. Carl
