Great review, James! I am always here for a good rant. Also, watching Sony go downhill in my lifetime has been odd. I remember when they were the gold standard for quality back in the day.
I only saw the first Venom & thought it was meh at best. It blows my mind that the studio responsible for these 6 movies is the same one responsible for two of the greatest animated (& comic book movies) of all time.
Wonderful article and commentary. Yeah the SSU movies are not great imho. I haven't outright hated any of them. I love the Spider Verse Movies though, strongly.
It shouldn't be hard to make a good Kraven movie. Like Madame Web could just be a female led "Person of Interest", Kraven is simply John Wick, in Africa. If you're making an R18 movie, you can just wash everything with blood from start to finish.
sony keeps cranking this stuff out so they dont loose the rights to spiderman and the quality suffers not to mention the next spiderman movie will probably gross a billion offsetting the losses of the spiderverse stuff so they dont care maybe if the next spiderman movie were to fail because people gave up on it and stoped going like what happened to the DC films they might stop, but sony was smart and they licensed the rights to the MCU so its more associated with that then the sony movies
How ? Last Spiderman movie went nuclear at the box office because of a gimmick. Don't forget it was released at the perfect time. First must see movie after COVID + holiday season. Previous Tom Holland Spidey movies did great at the box office, but nothing special by Marvel standard's
Didn't see Morbius. Kind of slept through Amazing Spider-man 2. Hated Amazing Spider-man 1. Hated Venom. Slept through Let there be Carnage. Didn't mind Madame Webb because I expected the worst. I won't be watching Kraven or Venom 3. Even with The MCU, characters like Moon Knight and Morbius and basically unknown, and not worth the risk when there are X-Men. If I was Sony, I would have put all the time and money into the Venom Trilogy, and have Kraven and Madame Webb etc. as minor characters. Venom is the most recognizeable spider-verse character other than Spider-man
I watched the 9 min opening that convinced me not to watch the rest I rather watch The Phantom again with its cheesy and fun all around then a mess of film
I saw a video recently about The Phantom from Giant Freakin Robot, and the reviewer pointed out one of its most endearing traits. It was completely devoid of cynicism. It treated its subject matter, and, for that matter, its audience, with respect.
as expected I guess. such a shame because I'm big fan of J.C Chandor's debut "Margin Call". little less of "Most Violent Year" and "Triple Frontier". but they are still quite decent movies. are cheques for those superheroes really this good that most directors are willing to do these soulcrashing sh*tshows
I’ve come to the conclusion that Sony is making bad movies on purpose. They have been in the movie business for since the 80s. And you mean to tell me that they don’t know how to make a good movie? I think they know exactly how to make a good movie. Besides the Spider-Man villain characters have a long history. So much history and material to pull from. I believe that they could have made great individual billing character movies. But they chose not to. They chose to intentionally make garbage. It has to be intentional.
It is certainly not on the writers. They could choose to opt out or write independent books, but those are rarely covered or justify with the effort all things considered. Although I agree, adapt a better story. This was trash.
😂you must be angry, you rarely swear, in your videos 😂, I feel your pain. I grew up in the 70 and all we had was the comics, and it was glorious, now because of the movies, and (right s issues) we get all these god awful 😖 films.
and everybody's favorite critic grace randolph gave this a positive review of course, I hate picking on her, but sometimes I wonder if she gets paid under the table for her reviews
Spiderman’s greatest defeat against Kraven was not being in this movie 😂
I think the new Spiderman game had a great Kraven.
Great review, James! I am always here for a good rant.

Sony is preserving the next batch of films for the next generation of Mystery Science Theatre, How did THIS get made, and/or Creature Features.
His little brothers big head and long neck is what I find the most disturbing in this movie
Wasn't there a hint of Sinster Six at the end of The Amazing Spiderman what happened to that idea instead we have all this mess
Yes.
Was it in the amazing Spiderman ?
🤔
Profit of 70 million. Thus scrapped
I only saw the first Venom & thought it was meh at best.

I watched second one at home.
I was really curious about Carnage.
Long story short... The end result was just big MEH.
Skimmed through it.
Sony Animation and Sony Pictures are two very different things! Sony Pictures makes dogshit
No Kraving time for you! 😂
Wonderful article and commentary.

Never understood the hate on Madame Web. I always found it entertaining ! I’ll just chalk it up to my personality .
This wasn't Kraven its the secret 4th movie in the Unbreakable trilogy.
Venom 4 antagonist should be morbius

So... I should see this in 4-DX?

Kraven is the male version of Madame Webb.

Sony needs to stop and give the rights back
It was either this or Madame Web for the worst
Let’s hope that Sony sees this. Or we will have The Chameleon out next year…
19:47 didn't they already try with that embarrassing flop of a movie Uncharted?
it's avi arad. whenever he gets too much say, his taste turns it to trash. starting with shoehorning venom into tobey mcguire's spiderman3
Sony should be praised for trying to kill the superhero genre. Everybody should not see Kraven in support of Sony.
I like ATJ but I really hope he’s not the new Bond.

The comic industry stopped paying writers for royalties for good stories and characters. What incentive do they have to write anything at all?
It is certainly not on the writers. They could choose to opt out or write independent books, but those are rarely covered or justify with the effort all things considered. Although I agree, adapt a better story. This was trash.
the only possible good thing about these horrible movies is that they bring virtually unknown characters into the public consciousness...

Sony wants to be Marvel so bad.
