In kraven’s last hunt there’s a moment when he’s on drugs and has a bad trip about spiders. More precisely a giant spider made of a bunch of regular spiders. Having not seen the movie yet I’d assume that scene is a reference to that. The only difference is that in the comic he isn’t afraid of spiders per se, it’s more of a representation of his insecurities, doubting how good of a hunter he really is if spider-man keeps beating him over and over again. That’s why you need spider-man to make a good character study of kraven.
Couple people are saying Russell Crowe could've made a better Sergei here than ATJ, like perfect old man Kraven was already there and that could've been the movie even. Should've had a Kraven Off for the role.
Sony succeeded with Venom, so they thought it would happen again if they used other Spider-Man characters. Sony is run by Tom Rothman, a thin-skinned idiot who tanked Fox's Marvel IPs. Aaron Taylor Johnson has played 3 comic book characters. I don't think he's the first person to do so but I can't remember anyone else who has played 3 comic book characters. Maybe the roles just weren't notable enough.

I was at Dutch Comiccon a month ago. It had a stand for Kraven, to promote it, I suppose. It was the most desolate stand in the whole building. The only people around it were people just leaning against it, trying to find a place to sit. I think all that was actually there that you could do was sit in this big Kraven throne? idk.
ATJ = Cut / Toned Cavill = Built / Jacked Reacher = Brickhouse ATJ is more cut than Jacked/Built, which is in-between Cut and Bulked. You need to fill out muscle not just tone it for Kraven. I.e Henry Cavill size in Man of Steel.

Big studio movies become too big for their own good leading to oversaturation and being incredibly risk averse, only to then be challenged by up and coming smaller and independent movies, usually accompanied by a change in how movies are distributed, and eventually leading to a new era of filmmaking. Kraven is in a weird middle ground for Sony's "Spider-Verse without Spider-Man" universe. It's not dumb enough to be funny but not stupid enough to be terrible. Competent enough to understand but not incompetent enough to question every decision. It's not "so bad it's funny" or "so bad it's terrible" either so it sits in some weird movie purgatory.
I will forever be furious that instead of putting an actual Spider-Man against Kraven - offering a fascinating new villain for any on-screen Spidey to face after years of being pitted against Evil Scientists with Green Tech - we got whatever the hell this is and ruined the character for _at least_ the next decade.
I'd say that Venom is a genuinely good movie. I'd recommend someone watch it if they go "should I watch this?" Also I didn't even know Kraven had finished being made, much less get released.

A: A lot of nostalgia (costumes, music cues, one-liners etc.) B: Some fan-service cameos. C: Over the top action, and D. A story that just needs to be mediocre enough that it is not distracting from A, B, and C. How Sony managed to miss the mark six times is BEYOND me. And no, it's not because Spider-Man wasn't in it.

I am so glad this Sony Spiderman Adjacent Cinematic Universe is finally ending! The fact that they made 6 movies about Spiderman related characters without Spiderman is such a classic desperate Sony move. At least the Venom movies are dumb but fun, but everything else is just hilariously bad. At least the Nicholas Cage Spiderman Noir TV series looks very promising and is actually about a variant of Spiderman we want to see more about.

So I hold no opinion as I didn’t see it all the way through, and I don’t want to pay to try again. But my girlfriend liked it so there’s that.
The only solution is for us to collectively refuse to watch any movie (not just capeshit, ANY movie) that Sony touches. The movie studio absolutely has to go bankrupt at this point. (Obviously the lone exception is Spiderverse, gotta watch that one)

The whole reason we turn books and comics into movies is to make them more consumable and for production companies to re-capitalize on good ideas in that way. I worry that this has already pushed books into the realm of having authors writing them with the sole intention of them becoming profitable movies or TV shows, not just to tell a fantastic story. So it is really driving an overall nose dive in quality across the board.
I don't even watch this crap on streaming so I don't lose my time and so that statistics for it are lower and Sony won't get a false impression that these movies have any value

I really enjoyed and would recommend Kraven. I think it’s the best of the “Spunk”. I really liked ATJ & Fred H. As their characters and could see them going up against Tom Holland Spider-Man. In struggling to understand the hate for it. It’s not perfect but based on the track record, this was a full step up 😅

Somebody on screencrush hit the nail on the head when they noted that 'since over the years kraven has morphed into a family of characters, then a kraven movie has to be a family story. A kraven movie should just be SUCCESSION but with superpowers' Imagine Russell Crowe playing an aging Sergei who's dying and decides to(with the help of Calypso and Chameleon) set his favorite son up to kill him and take his place as the head of the family
I understand why they felt the need to give Kraven the Hunter an origin story but he is literally at his best when he is a veteran and hunting down others because he is bored and wants a challenge before he dies. You could have casted a guy like Gerard Butler as a grizzled veteran and looking to recapture his younger days, by hunting down criminals like Scorpion (Assassin for Mexican Cartel), Vulture (Corrupt cop turned jewel thief) and Rhino (Russian Mob Enforcer). Then include flashbacks with a younger actor looking like Gerard Butler to show the audience what set him on this path. It ends with his own brother, the Chameleon, deciding to betray him and saving the lives of these other villains, because a private investor has a plan to recruit them all for something sinister. Kraven hunts down his brother for betraying him, fights through many men and supervillains to get to him and just as he is about to kill him, finds out the Sinister Six were recruited to kill Spider-Man and decides to do by himself what they thought it would take six men to do together. That will be his legacy.

After the success of both black panther and John wick, you'd think that nothing could be simpler than a kraven movie, but alas...
Somebody on screencrush hit the nail on the head when they noted that 'since over the years kraven has morphed into a family of characters, then a kraven movie has to be a family story. A kraven movie should just be SUCCESSION but with superpowers'
Imagine Russell Crowe playing an aging Sergei who's dying and decides to(with the help of Calypso and Chameleon) set his favorite son up to kill him and take his place as the head of the family
I understand why they felt the need to give Kraven the Hunter an origin story but he is literally at his best when he is a veteran and hunting down others because he is bored and wants a challenge before he dies.
You could have casted a guy like Gerard Butler as a grizzled veteran and looking to recapture his younger days, by hunting down criminals like Scorpion (Assassin for Mexican Cartel), Vulture (Corrupt cop turned jewel thief) and Rhino (Russian Mob Enforcer). Then include flashbacks with a younger actor looking like Gerard Butler to show the audience what set him on this path.
It ends with his own brother, the Chameleon, deciding to betray him and saving the lives of these other villains, because a private investor has a plan to recruit them all for something sinister. Kraven hunts down his brother for betraying him, fights through many men and supervillains to get to him and just as he is about to kill him, finds out the Sinister Six were recruited to kill Spider-Man and decides to do by himself what they thought it would take six men to do together.
That will be his legacy.

@ I already saw the movie. It was good but not great. The only real issue is that time that could’ve been used on Jackal was wasted on The Foreigner.

@ Because YT keeps shoving it in my face and it clogs my recommended. Plus, people who make a career off of these things need to use more subjective language such as “I personally didn’t like it”, so as not to insult peoples’ taste.
