    I would say that:
    There's a slight and essential difference between
    "to lend" and "to give".
    # when you lend something, you expect to get it back BUT when you give something, you don't necessarily get it back.
    The same thing happens with "borrow".
    # when you borrow something, you've got to give it back BUT when you receive something, you don't necessarily give it back.
    # So, you don't necessarily REPLACE "lend" with "give".
    # So, you don't necessarily REPLACE "borrow" with "receive".
    - They're all different contexts.
    Well, that's the way I see it, I mean, that's my point of view.

    • @englishspeaking360

      Hello Fredy! You are totally right. Borrow and receive are very different, just like lend and give.
      My point, as explained from 5:50 in the video, is that if you can use "receive" in you sentence and the sentence still makes sense, then you have to use "borrow".
      Enjoy your weekend! 🌞

    Hi, thanks for the video. Here is one question, I sleep for eight hours a day. I just wonder if the word for is necessary? Without it, the sentence isn't correct? And sorry to bother, just one more, is it OK to describe a person hopeless? Or only with incorrigible?

    • @englishspeaking360
      @englishspeaking360  3 месяца назад

      Both of these statements are correct and convey the same meaning:"I sleep for 8 hours a day.""I sleep 8 hours a day."They both indicate that the speaker sleeps a total of 8 hours every day.

    • @englishspeaking360
      @englishspeaking360  3 месяца назад

      Describing a person as "hopeless" and describing them as "incorrigible" have similar but not identical meanings:
      1. **Hopeless:** When describing a person as "hopeless," it typically means that the person lacks optimism or seems incapable of improvement or change in a particular situation. For example, someone might be described as "hopeless" if they continuously fail at something and show no signs of progress or improvement.
      2. **Incorrigible:** Describing a person as "incorrigible" means that they are not capable of being corrected, reformed, or improved. It often implies a sense of stubbornness or resistance to change despite efforts to correct or reform them. For example, an "incorrigible criminal" is someone who continues to commit crimes despite attempts to rehabilitate them.
      While both terms imply a sense of difficulty or impossibility in changing someone's behavior or situation, "hopeless" tends to focus more on the lack of optimism or improvement in a specific context, whereas "incorrigible" emphasizes the resistance to change or reform in a broader sense.

    Have Loan a negative meaning? in comparison with lend. Loan is more like loan skark and lend a legal thing.

    In the sentence you've shown here "I borrowed her pen", told that "her is possessive pronoun.
    Herr pen is noun and "her" is qualifying the noun pen. Then wont be "her" the possessive adjective?

    • @englishspeaking360
      @englishspeaking360  3 месяца назад +1

      Hello! Yes, you are right, "her" in the sentence "I borrowed her pen" is commonly referred to as a possessive adjective. Possessive adjectives are a type of determiner that modify a noun by indicating possession or ownership. In English grammar, possessive adjectives include words like "her," "his," "my," "your," "our," and "their," which directly modify nouns to show who owns or possesses something.
      I shall correct it.
      Thanks for the correction. 🤩

    It is true that I've borrowed some money from her and ,because of it, I thought it would be fair to lend her money when she needed it the most.However, she let me down. I didn't know what I was thinking when I lend her some money. She never gave me back my money, so I made my mind not to lend her or borrow money from her anymore. When I need to get money, it'll be better if I loan some from the bank because I can't trust anyone after what happened to me.
