    This is a great video for ESL learners, even though I used it as a refresher for my grade school education. The only issue I had was when you placed the dollar sign/symbol behind/after the numbers. Typically, in the US, we place it in front, although the word is said after the numbers. Also a good way to practice (numbers specifically) for those learners in the US is to watch games shows, like the Price is Right (Come on down!)

    Praise from Japan, as our education of English language rarely focuses on counting or reading numbers in a systematic way, and this video would be a great complement for it.
    However, I reluctantly have to point out one but the only one flaw of the video: the nation with the country code +81 (yes, Japan) doesn't have such format of phone numbers.
    :p

      Welcome! But remember that it only applies to difficult pairs like 14 and 40. The number 92 is stressed on the 2, not on the 90.

    Thank you for this video. It 's great!
    As 3:30, I learned how to read big numbers in short scale. I think that the short scale method in English language is adopted in the world.I would say "the modern world".
    In Canada ,in Australia and NewZealand , people adopt short scale .But if I read some of old script, I have no idea if written numbers were in short scale or long scale , if written letters had been intended in short scale or long scale.
    I don't know when the short scale became overwhelming. So sometimes I feel I am lost.😢

    Hi, with the video, I learned how to say numbers in different ways. However, when I am asked the phone number, I am not secured if it's the right way to respond. In Taiwan, for example, the number starts with 09...., and there are totally 10 numbers. Therefore, I say it one by one, desparately. Is it OK?

    • @englishspeaking360
      @englishspeaking360  5 месяцев назад

      Hello Mandy!
      Yes, its ok to say each number separately. In your case, you could also say (e.g. 0918909875). O nine, eighteen ninety, ninety-eight seventy-five. We group them together because it's easier to say.

    It is very helpful for me ,because your video reffered to phone-number.
    In my understanding ,some native speaker says
    for example, 'double o" ,instead of "o-o" or "zero-zero".
    and ,for another example, "double five "instead of "five-five".
    It might confuse me very much.

    Hi, this is a very good video. Thank you very much.
    I have one question.
    You mentioned that we emphasize the syllable of the larger number.
    In a case like
    23, would we emphasize the "3" at the back?

    • @englishspeaking360
      @englishspeaking360  5 месяцев назад

      The trick with the bigger number being stressed works only for pairs of confusing numbers (14-40 / 19-90). It doesn't apply to 23 even though the three is stressed. In the number 21, the one is stressed.

      Great suggestion! I forgot to include that in ghe video. 😥
      Reading the year 1700 would be "seventeen hundred" or "one thousand seven hundred."
