Fl studio isn't just about the step sequencer. It's also about being able to combine the piano roll and step sequencer, that's the true power of it. You have the simplicity of a step sequencer while being able to go further if you need
That's what I'm saying it's simpler for me although fls is pretty good too
the true power of FL studio is that if this is your music software you get used to then you'll defend til the grave. :)
@@neonvoid true that, I'm just saying that there are other daws that have step sequencers, studio one has a step sequencer. I use studio one for mixing and recording vocals, and I never use the step sequencer because it just doesn't have the flexibility that fl studios step sequencer has, and that's the same problem with this new one for ableton.
It’s also about not having to pay an exorbitant sum every time a new version comes out
The step sequencer is honestly pure trash and I never use it. It’s the most useless part of FL. If FL let us adjust the grid size it would be an absolute game changer, but otherwise it’s useless to me other than for placing 4 on the floor beats lol and a clap on every off beat.
I'm a Ableton user and can easily admit FL studios piano roll destroys ableton. So many features for quickly creating melodies and chords and just intuitive.
This is totally bullshit. Ableton has very powerful piano roll, stop hate this
You just don't know how to use it right way
@@user-mv8vc3zt1y false.
@@smith1896 alarm
Fl studio Piano Roll is superior.
I am I huge Ableton user, but it is super behind the curve on quite a few things... remember we just got the ability to be able to do track comping which everybody else has been able to do for more than a decade. We need support for ARA or give us a melodyn embedded feature set, no ability to fix pitch...., the ability to sandbox all vst plugins to prevent them from crashing the app, no notation view, needs a gui update, fix the editing views to make them more precise for mixing. This is a small list of course, but I still love it in it's current form... but needs to catch up further with all the other DAW's available.
well, us FL guys are still waiting for a proper comping feature lol
Great points. As an ableton user I agree with you 100%
There is a Max for Live device called “Live Score” if you are referring to traditional music notation.
I would switch to live in a heart beat if the made the piano roll usable.
@@Pabloesc571 it does have some short comings for sure, but if you dove into it and started using it you would get over many of them and just get to work. I do most of my work playing the performance in so I have never developed a strong need to use it that way. I use it for fixing mistakes and high hats which are not my favs to do. Also trap 808’s which have a little bit of a robotic sound to them.
As a FL user, I never even use the channel sequencer lol piano roll for everything
Literally
FL user checkin' in. I actually haven't used the step sequencer in a long time. Lately, I've been dragging and dropping samples into the FPC (often multisampling), routing them to individual pad mixer slots, creating a sub-master-bus for the drum channels, and occasionally using note length for shortening the tails of notes. However, high five Ableton!
Only thing I don't like bout the FPC you have to edit the samples first, love it with the MPK plus tho!
@@chrisneal6374 True. Personally, I mostly use it for multi-sampled acoustic drum kits (poor man's EZdrummer), but if you want elaborate drum machine patches, it's gonna be a lot of Edison/rendering + file-management tedium before the drag-and-drop session takes place. However, it does have ADSR envelopes and even pad-stacking via same note-programming that have gotten me out of a bind before (for simple layering).
Get a MPC, you'll thank me later
Former FL user since 2010. FLs sequencer is very easy to use and you have many choices when using it however, once I bought Maschine (MK1), I rarely used FLs sequencer any more. It's all on the person and how you like to work creating beats, rhythms. I found, once I started finger banging on the Maschine, it was all over. The workflow for Maschine was also very easy for drums/ sample beats. A few years later, I gave my Maschine Mk1 to a family member hoping to upgrade although I never did (had to put music down for a little). Now I'm thinking either the new MPC 1 + to try something different for drums and sample creations although the Maschine plus is also calling me. Either way, the sequencer in FL is superior to Ableton's although hats off for trying!
As someone who uses the deeper features of FL, this is pretty good, but it ain't messing with the channel rack's advance fill mode, the sampler channel's precomputed effects, advanced looping options, or the graph editor params, where you can change velocity, fine pitch, filter cutoff and resonance on a step by step basis. Plus, the piano roll features are still king
yo the only feature you listed im not familiar with is fls channel rack advance fill. would you mind giving me the jist of it?
Yeah idc what anyone says I love FL studio and its perfect for what I need it for.
[Laughs in arrangement view]
Advanced looping made me apologize to all the fl homies I tried to convert to studio one users because I thought studio one's pattern mode was more functional. I think they're equally good now.
@@ruslanr.6171 Spot on
I've tried them both and for making music FLStudio's piano roll is untouchable!!!! I have totally switched to FL after trying Logic, Reason, Ableton, Cubae, Studio One, and Maschine! Only thing I haven't tried is an MPC. FLStudioi is the truth, especially for quickly using music theory and keeping everything in key. Ableton has some good things but FL is better price wise and workflow wise. IN MY OPINION.
Nah nah nah workflow wise its ok, and
Forget about mixing 💀
But piano roll is the only thing I'll give it for lol
Like all of them damn windows, and immature routing gotta give it to ablation. It takes a longgg time to figure out the smallest things in fl also I've been using it for 2 years but I'm switching soon to live 11. If all you care about is making beats, loops then fl for the price is unbeatable, good sample, good stock plugs, step sequencer, piano roll is pretty good is its strong suites.
@@thestreetdisciple3955 yeah, the windows do get a little crazy but I pretty much stay int he piano roll. And the step sequencer allows quick dope drum patterns. And the feel of the drum pattern is crazy. There are so many things you can do in sound design with FL. I love it.
@@thestreetdisciple3955 I’ve been using FL exclusively for over a decade. Mixing is fine, If you’ve been using FL for as long as I have, you know how to use it for anything. I produce, edit, mix, and master all in FL. It’s a 32-bit DAW just like any other, and the “sound engine” sounds exactly the same as the others. I know this because I’ve compared them. If you know how to use FL, you know how to make it work for mixing.
@@casualintrovert207 I see your point but being also a pro tools user for me it's not it 😭
@@thestreetdisciple3955 I would say the same but for pro tools lol
The veloctity and amount of channels is the best part of the FL step sequencer. My workflow is weird, but I need 24 channels min
bro youre a legend. i truly gaf about your opinions and hope you never stop. you save me a lot of time, money, and aggravation.
At some point think for yourself

facts. bro just cuts to chase. does it suck or not
Ableton needs a good 64 step sequencer at a minimum.
J74 StepSequencer64 is a decent 64 step sequencer for max for live.

thoughts on nordmann chord?
How is there no simple drum step sequencer for Mac? I just want something I can browse through drum sounds while the loop is playing. anything out there I'm missing?
regarding chords and shit there is "Live enhancement suite" would love to see you talk about it. in the midi editor you can hold tilda and a drop down menu will pop up on your cursor exposing a slew of pastable chords and scales
I use the reaper sequencer, megababy NM. Inside the ReaJS plugin. It's damn good. Haven't found anything to replace it yet.
Launchpad pro3 sequencer is great with Ableton and print to clip. Also has a great chord mode
I started on early releases of Cubase. Started toying with FL when plugins began picking up speed. I didn't respect it because i always assumed there is something better and software was a toy because we were all still using hardware. But looking back and listening to the beats i made with it, the speed of that step sequencer is really good for creation. People use to bridge FL into their main daw like Cubase, and use the step sequencer for their drums.
Im sorry guys but STUDIO ONE have a way more powerful and user friendly SEQUENCER than FL and you guys still spleeping on it, much love!
One thing that'll likely make me never leave FL is their lifetime of updates from that one initial purchase. There's no new fees because there's a new version. You buy it, and you get it and future updates for life. Their stock plugins like Sytrus (really good synth), Convolver ("real" reverb) and Newtone (Melodyne at home) are really good as well. FLEX is also good as a sound library which is really nice.
What’s your opinion on modalics beat scholar. I own it I like it definitely can be nice I haven’t had to much time in the last month to sit down and get to know it inside and out but I think it has great potential.
You could make a sequencer like this in Max For Live with live.grid. I’m sure there’s plenty out there already.
The king of Max is here!
I use both. FL has the best STOCK piano roll editor. But Ableton has a max 4 live tool called J74 that edits midi clip cells live with music theory as a main part of the U.I. worth checking out. I think it's more Powerful and teaches what it does. I believe it has a bass tool it will link up with as well. Talking to each other's changes. Kinda like captain plug-ins does. Max 4 Live is crazy. Clyphex pro is something to check out too. Crazy powerful tools for Ableton.
Logic step sequencer is slept on 😢
Bitwig master race
Logic step sequencer and live loops have entered the chat
You mentioned free step sequencers for Ableton. What are they?
There's a bunch if you search max4live step sequencers. There's one that comes with "the big three" which I think is directly on abletons website.
Honest question, what is the benefit using this over a drum rack?
Exactly. Also since this is a MIDI M4L device you have to put in front of a drum rack anyway because it just creates MIDI that it sends to the instrument after it
Huge fan of your work homie your page is going to take off. What kind of camera do you use ? And/or do you have any videos on the best camera for streaming?
Canon M50 mark ii. Thank you !!
Idk what the best is there's always something more expensive and better.

"Ableton destroys FL."
That's a bold statement there buddy
I think FL Studio has the more powerful VST Collection within the full version. But I like the workflow from Ableton Live. And you can use all VSTs I both DAWs, so I love both. Polyamoursious, I am.
FL studio inside ableton via VST is crazy buggy but crazy good
*FL allows you to literally build your own work flow. Everything is customizable.*
My workflow:
Ableton for sound design, FL for everything else.
FL Gang 🍊
I think the stock max plugins in ableton have them, and the CV tools max pack will give you arbitrary modulation sources to map out. Then you could modulate parameters one wouldn't have access to previously.
up above
FL Studio is invincible 🎹🥭
For us fl studio user it is still the best and for Ableton user it's the best for them too depends on what DAW you're using
It doesn't make that much sense tho, on fls sequencer the steps are "midi clips" and can be pasted in the arrangement window, this one will keep playing the whole time, + the fl studio is wayyyy more functionality then this one (unique instrument sequencing in the same pattern to have different loop points for each, its the place to add vst to your project and a place to quickly grab audio and automations and even sequence audio clips and automation in a midi patter, also a highly capable polyetheim editor)
I am an long time Ableton user and i use Stepic by Devicemeister - its the best Stepsequencer available in my opinion and it comes at an very fair pricing and great features like randomization, automation export, chord mode, scales etc. you name it 🙂
this
After I got sober , I have no need for FL anymore
But isn't the piano roll a step sequencer when you set the grid size correctly? Like if you want 16th notes, throw a drum rack on a MIDI track, set the grid to 16ths and you got yourself a step sequencer 🤫
I agree. I do think it's slightly more tedious having to fold it down and get the grid size correct beforehand though. But this step sequencer isn't much better if at all in its current state. The only benefit it has are the different step lengths you can set for each note making Polyrhythms simpler to program. As well as some of the randomisation features.
In this day and age, step sequencers are pretty much useless unless someone makes very rigid 4/4 music like techno or house.
Booooo artfx BOOOOO
I don’t even use the sequencer poop. Audio or piano roll 😂 don’t judge
"Ableton Just COPIED FL Studio step sequencer"
Now remake the fl piano roll and all is features and then we can call it a day 😅 I still can’t understand why ableton don’t do it by them self
[laughs in arrangement view]
Wait youre threatening to make your viewers unconscious while they are already asleep.. you could just leave them asleep and accomplish the same effect... Lmfao
I've used FL for around 20 years NEVER USED A STEP SEQUENCER, always the piano roll. And for the past 2 years I transitioned into Ableton. It was hard at first but 100% worth it. In FL everything seems duct-taped together for the sake of the creators to say "hey we have it too", YEA BUT IT DOESNT WORK WELL OVERALL ESPECIALLY 3RD PARTY PLUGINS AND YOU MESSY FL AND YOU TEACH PPL TO MAKE MUSIC IN FL WAY NOT EVERYONE ELSE WAY STANDARD WAY. AND THERE IS A REASON WHY PPL BOOK LESSONS FOR FL FROM ME :DDDDD
The only thing I miss is the piano roll as you said cos its fire actually, ableton one is a little bit "too simple" but fine :D
They’re making progress!
You flgang keeth?

Studio one most underrated DAW
I love Ableloops Studio! "Heads up!" *throws pc at Steven*
As an FL guy, I've recently switched to Ableton, because I now realise why professional studios don't take FL seriously. Firstly, FL is phenomenal, so that's that and we're not denying it. The issue, for me with FL is routing capabilities are still limited. If you are in a professional studio, you'll see they're compatible with Pro Tools, Logic, Ableton, etc but not FL. Because of ROUTING! FL still doesn't let you ungroup stereo outputs to choose them individually as mono. This isn't a big deal for most producers, but it is if you're routing to a mixing console. You still can route FL studio to any mixing console, but you'll get a stereo output, meaning (for example) if you have a Kick drum, it won't be linked to channel strip 1, it'll be linked to TWO channel strips because its a stereo output. I'm 95% convinced, just because your favourite producer uses FL, I can almost guarantee when he sends it to be mastered, the mastering engineer is using pro tools/Logic/Ableton. It's very frustrating and comes off very unprofessional.
99.9% percent who left FL Studio for other DAWs simple lack knowledge like this one. He's talking about an easy thing but chose to blame & ditch instead of learning. It's like this for the majority...
@@leinexkeith291 Go ahead and explain and help me to understand, if you know so much. I just know that, the mono stereo issue, you're probably thinking about flipping audio to mono, which FL can do, BUT FL doesn't let you ungroup mono outputs, meaning left and right. FL's panning is a major issue because of this. Go ahead and try it, when you pan hard left, it doesn't actually pan, it 'merges' meaning the signal from the right is merged to the left...this is not what panning is. Take two audio clips, pan one hard left, one hard right and route them to a bus, now pan the bus hard left...guess what? you'll hear the signal on the right too when you've panned the bus. This is very annoying and is because of FL'S output issues. Perhaps you're a beginner yourself and are yet to face this issue, which we professionals take seriously. Good luck kiddo.
Need the FL piano roll tbh
Everything feels clunky after using fl piano roll
logic’s step sequencer is super powerful, but i only occasionally use it
Ableton has a good piano roll that looks like a step sequencer. Logic has a way better step sequencer than FL studio's. but it did come afterward. I stopped using the step sequencer in FL studio a long time ago, and when I did, I'd just send my pattern to the piano roll and edit stuff on the grid anyway.
The best part about FL studio is that it by itself is a VST. I love pointing that out. Everything you love about FL studio can be utilized in any Daw by just loading the thing in your daw.
So then we get the all the awesomeness of FL + the wicked audio editing in Ableton!
I forgot already... what do the quotes mean?
they mean that it is his opinion and he will fight for it. that's how I remember it
so this one time in Ableton...
Ableton user here. Its not quite there yet. From what I understand the FL Studio channel rack can extend up to 64 bars and also you can save patterns in FL Studio.

Aren’t we done with the “my DAW is better than your DAW” arguments. It’s completely subjective.
Looks dope! As every ableton person will say about new FL features “About time they got this, FL has had it foreverrr 🥴🥴🥴”
Logic's step sequencer is better than Fl's imo. Way more customizable, and already has all the features Weaver was asking for in this vid. 🤷♂
"Ableton just destroyed fl studio" by copying fl studio lmao
Yep
There are so many different sequencing options available via M4L that any imaginary DAW-war isn't gonna be lost on the basis of not having the exact same step sequencer as FL.
I’m learning MPC Beats
Have used FL studio for years now but I also wanted to expand my dawness so I downloaded Ableton. But the drum manipulation just turn me off , I left and chilled, just unmotivated to learn it , it has some good sounds won't lie but all I want is to lay down what's in ma head
There is no daw more intuitive than Fl studio

I have a copy of ableton and it’s like it’s in another language don’t know how to an 808 like FL it’s confusing as hell 😅❤
This video was meant to be released the day that Ableton 1 was released right.
This looks pretty cool actually.
he wants 15 pounds for that sequencer?? pfffft
FL really need to delete the „Make Unique“ bullshit and change the reverse abilities. So annoying
I’ve been using FL Studio since version 3. I was a user for about 8 years. I’m not sure what makes either better... Nothing in particular has ever had me like: “aw damn, I gotta go back to FL!” Whatever clicks with the framework of you mind is what sticks.
the piano roll in ableton is the step sequencer its just looks different
Is Ableton better for live instruments? (I am a curious FL user)
haha yup
@@GlacierSound appreciate the answer 🙏🏾🙏🏾
As a dedicated FL user, yea. How ableton just fits audio to bpm is wild. We would need to open NewTime to compete with that
I haven't seen a tool better than the sequencer, piano roll, slicer, or Edison in Ableton
For me there's not really a reason for a sequencer. The piano roll with some zoom and some quantize to grid....the pencil. Why?
In a world where it worked better it would be less effort to set up beforehand. The real value of some step sequencers is being able to change the loop length of different notes allowing for easy polyrhythms without having to count like you would using the grid.
@@Weaverbeats I definitely see your point. I used to use it good for a simple 1, 2 kick drum add some swing or 4 on the floor. However I always would end up in the piano roll for the precision. I feel like it's a crutch to some people. They go to another daw and want it to behave like FL. The piano roll you can almost count on to be in a daw. If your eyes see measures enough you won't have to think as much. Sonar did it right a long time ago, more recently studio one got it as well. The thing with those is they're tucked away too much into the program and like you said they require too much setting up. FL is like bam soon as you open it.
Reaper has one of these as well. Its called Sower.
