  • Put on a good pair of headphones and crank up the volume because we're going capital ship hunting.
    Did some Xenothreat battles with my Org, The Forgotten Heralds. Was on bomber duty for most of it and decided to capture some footage for you all to enjoy. Beyond just taking part in epic capital ship battles, one of my favorite aspects of these fights is the incredible sound design CIG's audio crew has put together.

    The Eclipse is pretty sick. The landing gear coming out of the folded wings. The cockpit is great too with the closed-in ceiling panel. Glad to see missiles and torpedos in the mix against larger ships. Cool video.

    Cool. The torpedo animations/desync ruin the clip a but, but the audio is quite good. Did you enhance it in any way?

      Yeah, the desync does distract a bit. I enhanced the volume a little with some light compression :)

    Can you consider doing a tutorial on how to fly bombers? Which missiles to use, what is the optimal range and timing for launching them, etc. I imagine a lot of newer players are going to be buying bombers (hopefully with ingame currency) just for this event.

      Flying them is relatively the same as any other ship ,
      the eclipse is easier to fly than the retaliator purely because it maneuvers better and can move faster, however it is a glass cannon and can be easily destroyed and does not have good pilot DPS. another benefit to the eclipse is its range , at around 9km you can pick up targets and lock giving you the surprise advantage. Only carries 3 torps. Cross section will be better for larger targets but take ALOT longer to lock ( around 10 seconds) Infrared torps lock in around 5 but can be easily dodged.
      The retaliator is a slow moving chungus of a ship that packs 6 torpedo's either cross section or infrared. It accelerates at an acceptable level but trying to bring one to a stop going full speed will prove difficult. It has no Pilot controlled guns so once you are out of torps unless you have gunners you need to haul ass outta there. Is alot stronger than eclipse and can take more damage but useless against light fighters and really only designed against bigger ones.
      My advice would be the second you have target in sight lock and fire , be prepared to jump away because once your target gets within 5km ( depending on ship) its game over and they will outgun you without gunners or sufficient pilot controlled guns. keep speed for the retaliator under the red line unless you really need to get moving away from someone, stay at the range you can lock the target because the other ship will most likely not be able to see you from that far but if shooting at a smaller nimble ship , lock a second torp and be ready to fire incase they dodge the first. Last tip ill share is torpedo's have a max speed of 1000m/s so if your target realises its a torp coming their way and full throttles it in a straight line for long enough they will outrun your torpedo so i wouldn't even attempt to shoot light fighters with them its just wont work.

      Its in the cards for a guide on torpedoes and missiles. But I've been holding off until they release the missile operator mode and the updated guidance and control method rework for missiles tentatively expected in 3.13.

      Idris pulled up at the last moment, considering it is A.i. driving the ship it was quite impressive to see.

    looks like the counter torpedo systems on the cap ships aren't quite there yet, in theory, one should be able to lock on and shoot down those with turrets if they saw them coming. I'd hope if that were a player ran Idris you wouldn't get that easy bombing runs like the alpha AI.

      Ah, yeah.. These are from earlier builds, in more recent events the AI PDCs are pretty good at stopping torpedoes when fired at a distance in my experience. But, much like all issues with the AI currently. It's all tied to server performance. Overloaded server means poor AI performance. Here is hoping server meshing well help in that endeavor!
