I want to say that this was an excellent video. Thanks for sharing as I was able to fix the pendulum swing on a clock I had just purchased. Love you videos and how you make it easy. Now on to the music box. Thanks again.
Glad that I could help out. I always open the foot on the crutch assembly on every type of clock that has one. It took me a few hours to convince someone one day who had 30 plus years of clock repair experience to do that to one of his American 30 hour wall clocks where he posted a question to a group on Facebook one day. I told him it would only take a minute or two to try so what is it going to hurt. His clock wouldnt run but a few minutes. So after he finally tried it he came back and thanked me. Folks are trained differently in school or from the older generation of clock repair. I dont hear well so I observe more than most folks.
I bought a new machine for my cuckoo, and there was no way to get it to work when I put it horizontally, after making the adjustments that you recommend in this video, it works perfectly. Thank you very much.
You can do it! One day clocks are very lenient in bushing wear where 8 day cuckoo clocks will need bushings if the they are worn out or you wont be able to put them in beat this easy. Good luck.
Hi Mark, I recently was asked to fix a Schmeckenbecher Wood Chopper cuckoo clock (without water wheel). As this is my first time working on a cuckoo clock, or any clock for that matter, your video was very helpful. The music box to this clock was completely gone, except for a couple of parts. Do you have a video on how to install the music box? Thanks in advance.
I do have a video on the music box. It is my most watched video. If you are a subscriber to my channel it is the video that is playing when you open my channel. Within that video I explain that it is the same system as the woodchopper clock.
You are vey welcome. I too have a book that I bought to repair these clocks. I was very disappointed in the book. I had to learn to repair them mainly on my own. I did have an occasional confirmation from a FB friend who collects and works on cuckoo clocks.
Mark, Checked in the other day about having a clock repaired thanks for the reply. This clock I have is like yours that I bought in Frankfort in 66. It never would run for any length of time after being repaired a couple of times. I just added another weight to it and seems to be running fine. Any suggestions why it won’t run on one weight? Thank you.
The clock is probably out of beat. Please look for my folder on how to put a cuckoo clock in beat. There I explain what you need to do. First I would take the pendulum off. The leader wire that the pendulum hangs on to should start swinging on its own. You might have to tilt the clock to the left or right until it does. Once it does. Stop it with your fingers or put your finger next to it and it should bounce back and forth hitting your finger. If you can get it to do that then the clock should run after you put the pendulum back on. You might have to seperate the foot of the crutch as I show in the video. Check that out as it should help you out. If you cant get it to do that then the clock is probably dirty and needs cleaned. Probably 75%% of the time you can get it to run without it having to be taken apart. If you need more help let me know.
Hi Mark. I would like to see how you have this clock mounted in order to work on it. Can you show some pics or a video of the work stand set up? Also, the pendulum on my cuckoo simply stops after a minute of so: like the pendulum runs out of momentum? Any ideas?
Good questions. Pertaining to the stands all you have to do is search for stands while on my you tube channel and I have several videos showing you different stands. As far as the cuckoo clock set up search for "Cuckoo clock stops" while on my channel and "How to put a cuckoo clock in beat". Could be the hanger that the pendulum leader wire hangs on has a flat spot or the clock could be out of beat or the clock could need serviced. Hope this helps. Good luck.
I have the same clock as the one shown here and your video has been a HUGE help, thanks Mark! I also have a two weight cuckoo clock and the time chain gear appears to be too tight against the black plastic center shaft gear which causes the pendulum to stop eventually. Moving the minute hand is also about twice the resistance as my other clock and shouldn't be so hard to move. I believe it has nothing to do with the pendulum because once I manually move the next gear in the sequence after the above two, the pendulum moves very easily. It will also move as I apply more pressure to the time chain gear (almost twice as much force as the weight provides just to get it going. Any advice you can give? Thanks!
If your clock that you are having trouble has a music box then the problem is the music lever that goes into the hole isnt adjust right. So it is stopping the clock. If your clock is a count wheel clock system then there is a suspension spring underneath that minute wheel with minute pinion shaft. It might be too tight. You can message me on facebook. My picture is me hugging a bear (Not a real bear) with pictures of your movement let me know that we have talked here.
How to order new chains when I count 82 links per foot on a old chain that appears stretched some versus a newer clock that has nicer chain with 84 links per foot. Can't find chain those sizes ?
What kind of movement is it? If you look on timesavers for Regula 25, 34, and Hubert Herr 1 day and 8 day movements they tell you that it is for this movement and give you the chain LPF.

Glad that I could help you out. Good luck with the music box. Be patient and you will get it. Thanks for watching.

I’m glad you found the video helpful and that you got it up and running. Thanks for watching.
Thanks Mark. I hope I follow your instructions with success. I've had a repair shop 3 mos nightmare.
