I remember the day my drawing professor told us "stop looking at the body parts." "Stop thinking of this as a leg, eye or nose." "Just look at the shapes and the negative shape around it." What he said just completely opened up my eyes and mind and I never looked back. I just unconsciously work that way now. I never think " okay I'm drawing an eye now." I think only of the color, light and shadow. My work has elevated to 100 by doing it that way.
This is interesting I kinda wish you could go in more detail but it’s so simple so you really shouldn’t because my biggest struggle is going in more detail with my faces I’m great at drawing other thing but I’m so fearful of messing up I avoid people or faces all together
Gigi D.M. Darn I wish white people could of thought of that I’m talking about in history like in the first fleet or slavery in America or when conquistadors found the Americas. I’m just saying if Europeans thought of that we wouldn’t of had all the deaths just about a persons skin. I keep on saying this can people these days just take a joke I swear i say a simple joke like this one and people just blow of it’s stupid
Jay Mazella your comment is so funny to me like you go off on how lazy it is to make fun of others by pigeonholing them based on an arbitrary characteristic and then you immediately do exactly that... when the doctor asks me what kind of lobotomy I want I’m gonna show him this
Jay Mazella oh sorry i. I didn’t know only Jews had something against white people I guess the hundred of years of black people treated LITERALLY NOTHING BY WHITE PEOPLE doesn’t matter i guess my people the Latin Americans being scared for their life that they are going to be deported back to a country where they probably will be killed brutally by gangs or freeze while they sleep in the streets Doesn’t matter
People who have never learned to draw tend to think that the eye is always white, but in reality due to the eyelids theres almost always a shadow falling on top of them 😊 also the eye reflects the color of its surroundings extremely well so it can literally be any color. This isn't the case only for the eye though, it pertains to all objects. Night and day, different environments, atmosphere, lighting will affect the color of the entire setting and particular objects and that's how artists think when they are painting. Extremely complex and tiring unless they are painting off another image, much easier in that case if you are a trained artist :)
I love the stage where you add the background and abstract it a little bit because it’s super freaking brave. Takes a lot of guts to potentially mess up your painting! Also, you caught me: I totally thought of a banana as being yellow. It’s a habit I’m going to have to break, because you’re right: bananas can be green, or brown, or black, and they can reflect all kinds of light, like red or blue. Same with skin - I could see the areas of red and yellow and blue you have throughout the portrait. This was a good reminder to stretch my thinking and reevaluate what I think I know vs what I see.
Finally someone understands. The thing is I'm restricted in a mindset that disallows me to think outside the box and use other colours/shades that may not be reflected in the original object/person. For example when painting a portrait I try to use different shades of 'skin colors' to bring out the shadows and dimensions of the face yet I am restricted by that same mindset and end up painting the face in one skin colour which looks less realistic-2d. While watching this video I noticed the different colors that you used for her face wouldn't normally be put together but came together in the end. You see if I were to attempt this, I'm worried I'd not know where to put each colour so that they overally work together. Anyways thank you for this video which has inspired me to hopefully be more 'brave' with my artwork. I hope you keep up the excellent work☺️
One thing that can help is zooming in on tiny points at a time and being honest about what colors you see there, and seeing how it holds up in the end! Even if you put 100% the "wrong" colors things like value, hard or soft edges, qnd proportions will still make it recognizable so dont be afraid to experiment!

So confident and yet correct, how you put colors on canvas. Blocking shape using variety colors. We should really good at understanding colors and value at once

i think your technique is great. i wish i had your eye for colors...every shade is different. in the end it's not dull and flat. it's very dynamic and interesting. that being said...i'd better go practice painting now. 😅
Alpay, you are incredible as a person and as an artist.

I think the finishing part is one of the best things in your paintings... It makes it complete.. its a movement in a still..
So confident and yet correct, how you put colors on canvas. Blocking shape using variety colors. We should really good at understanding colors and value at once
