Just so everyone knows, Kaiba was actually *NOT* hoping for a good draw - the correct subtitles should be something like, "Goddess of Dueling, please let this be a common card. Forgive me!" These subtitles are literally Chinese-translated; I've seen them before, and they suck. Which makes sense - Kaiba didn't want to throw a rare/expensive card and have it stuck into another guys' hand, possibly ruining it. He then actually says, "Tch. I'm too good of a drawer," once he sees it's Blue-Eyes.
I'm surprised he didn't draw Gyakutenno Megami - the same card he used to jam Saruwatari's gun in the sub. In the manga, he used the same card, but broke the assassin's hand in the process.
It actually isn't the first time he's helped them, he flies them home from Duelist Kingdom, lets them on the blimp in Battle City and has no problem giving them free transportation. But yeah, no thanks there.

Gets ignored. Mokuba- Presses two fucking buttons that anyone could have pressed. "Wow thanks a lot Mokuba" says Tea. This basically gives good reason to why Kaiba is always an asshole.

He's f-ing tsundere also.... he had even better development in the manga. like in this scene, for example; just when he arrived at the bay in the manga; He literally and genuinely showed concern to the lives involved. "I wanted to see Yugi's resolve... but if lives are involved, I don't care to prove it anymore" : this shows he couldn't care less if he's right about what he said. if the lives are involve, he will make it a priority, and put a stop to it. in anime; "this is not even a duel anymore" : this only shows his priority is still dueling... they played out similarly, but the manga Seto greatly showcase the lesson he learned from the duelist kingdom, where he fought Yugi to enter the Pegasus castle. Whereas in anime version showcase his pride as a duelist. The anime just want to make him even more distinct - and 4kids.... even more so...
This is the same guy who has more resources than the entirety of the US Armed Forces (specified in the manga) That helicopter's loss didn't probably even dent his bank account.

Tea was really the one who stopped Yugi from following through with the attack; Yugi and the others could give less of a damn about Kaiba. She was also not thanked at the time, but that's the way Kaiba is. He doesn't have the sentiment for words, but he'll express himself in his actions. I believe this was his way of returning the favor to her. They both saved each other without really acknowledging it.

Fun fact: you actually can throw cards in such a way that they can stick into things. Flesh, for example, would probably be on the list of things you can stick a card in by throwing it. Obviously you can't go full Gambit and take down any MF who gets in your way with a card but you wouldn't need metal cards to pull off kaiba's feats, just ridiculously good aim and form.

It's not so much the dub's fault as it is the censoring that goes along with it. The dub's fine as I like most voices they chose in the dub. The censoring is what ruins a lot of moments in the show.
I think the raw Kaiba is a little bit more human and a little less "badass" than the dubbed one. He sorta believes in luck, cares for his card. All characters have changed a little bit in the dub, the greatest change being Marik´s.
JRock Malik The voices between normal and evil Marik are the same, only he talks more aggresively, in contrast to the dub, where the normal one talks rather softly and the evil one completely insane. As for the character, Marik in the original wants to kill Yugi for revenge and not conquer the world or anything.
And no one even bothers to thank him for his pure badassness.....I mean seriously! He epically threw a card that somehow stabbed that guy, than did a badass karate kick. How cool can ya get?
Say what you want about Seto Freaking Kaiba, but he was willing to sacrifice a helicopter and possibly one of his most prized cards for the life of a person he constantly spites and scoffs at on a daily basis. Also, the fact Kaiba used a card to (almost) kill a guy reminded me of a scene from an old HK action film about a master gambler (can't remember the name) who used a playing card to SLICE THE FUCKING THROAT of a sniper that was two floors above him, and later murdered tons of mercenaries armed with automatic weapons during the final battles of the film with nothing more than a deck of cards and some karate. I wonder if the two scenes are correlated in some way...
I'd tell ya if I knew. I watched the film a LONG time ago, like back in 1998 (it was probably older than that considering it re-aired on TV when I first saw it) and I didn't even recall seeing the title card since my parents were flicking through channels when they saw it. My parents might know, I'll ask them sometime lol.

It only works because cards in the show aren't paper, they have computer chips and such in them so they can be read by the hologram systems, kaiba's still epic for managing that move though, ^.^

Best thing is, this sub has it completely wrong. Kaiba was actually praying for NO luck in his draw, and he remarks afterwards that unfortunately his draw was too good. Even if he wants to draw the worst card in his deck he still manages to draw BEWD instead.

I think the raw Kaiba is a little bit more human and a little less "badass" than the dubbed one. He sorta believes in luck, cares for his card. All characters have changed a little bit in the dub, the greatest change being Marik´s.
how did Marik change? (i've never had the luck to watch it in Japanese)
JRock Malik The voices between normal and evil Marik are the same, only he talks more aggresively, in contrast to the dub, where the normal one talks rather softly and the evil one completely insane. As for the character, Marik in the original wants to kill Yugi for revenge and not conquer the world or anything.

Say what you want about Seto Freaking Kaiba, but he was willing to sacrifice a helicopter and possibly one of his most prized cards for the life of a person he constantly spites and scoffs at on a daily basis.
Also, the fact Kaiba used a card to (almost) kill a guy reminded me of a scene from an old HK action film about a master gambler (can't remember the name) who used a playing card to SLICE THE FUCKING THROAT of a sniper that was two floors above him, and later murdered tons of mercenaries armed with automatic weapons during the final battles of the film with nothing more than a deck of cards and some karate. I wonder if the two scenes are correlated in some way...

I'd tell ya if I knew. I watched the film a LONG time ago, like back in 1998 (it was probably older than that considering it re-aired on TV when I first saw it) and I didn't even recall seeing the title card since my parents were flicking through channels when they saw it.

Well tbf, he can always produce more helicopters, but these 3 Blue Eyes cards are the only three existing. So it would be quite a problem to lose 'em.
It only works because cards in the show aren't paper, they have computer chips and such in them so they can be read by the hologram systems, kaiba's still epic for managing that move though, ^.^

this just made me realize,
yugi draws the cards he wants, but kaiba is reversed because his cards (blue-eyes) wants him. (because blue-eyes is a piece of "Kisara", the woman kaibas past self "priest seto" had a relation with, and when she died she promised to always be there to protect him)
which is pretty deep.....OR he just doesn't shuffle his deck and just always slips all 3 blue-eyes on top, either or!
Best thing is, this sub has it completely wrong. Kaiba was actually praying for NO luck in his draw, and he remarks afterwards that unfortunately his draw was too good. Even if he wants to draw the worst card in his deck he still manages to draw BEWD instead.
It's just great how paper child's card games acts like throwing knives in this world for some reason.
