- Quick and easy profesional grade DIY Outboard Motor mount for the Live Watersports Paddle Boards
this design will fit both the L2Fish and L4 Expedition boards by Live Watersports at about half the cost.

King Starboard
Garelick Horizontal Platform Mount
POWERTEC QTB1007 Tee Bolt 5/16-Inch-18, 1-1/2-Inch Long
POWERTEC 71071 5-Star Thru Knob 5/16-Inch-18
1/4-20 1 inch flat head bolts
1/4-20 nylon locking nuts

Romero Harris The one I got is a cheep 4hp air cooled but I think it’s only putting out about 2.5hp, If I had the money I would definitely get a good 5hp. I am planning to reinforce the front edge of the starboard it has a slight bow across the front edge at full throttle the way it is.

why in the world wouldnt you just trace it from underneath using the body of the board? Also, small outboards assume a 14 to 15 degree angle of a boat transom so your thrust angle is off by 15 degrees or so.

Live Watersports recommends a max of 5hp I believe. I’m not quite sure how it would handle such a large motor.

Getting ready to build this mount. Would you do anything different. Do you have any suggestions on motor hp and weight? Thanks
I am planning to beef up the front edge just a little with a small strip of star board to keep if from flexing when your full throttle. Other than that I think a 5hp motor would be perfect. Amazon motor I have is suppose to be rated at 4hp but I don’t think it puts out 4hp more like 2.5, That being said my 14ft board moves at about 7mph which isn’t terrible.
Thanks for reply and good advice. I've never worked with the starboard before but if the front edge could be heated and bent up to anywhere from a 45 to 90 degree angle, then that might be a nice solution to the flexing when at full throttle.
Starboard is a type of HDPE so I’m sure it can be heated and bent although It might be hard since the piece is 1/2” thick by 32” wide, but with a good jig and a couple of heat guns it’s worth a shot.
@@BackpackingGO Do you think if you went 3/4 instead of 1/2 it would be more rigid? I'm assuming the weight and feel is similar to a cutting board. Thanks for taking the time with this video :)
Have you had this mount on the water yet? I'm wondering if the height of the mount is too low for a 2.5 HP outboard?
Yes I’ve had it out a few times it does pretty well at the current height. I have had it vent a couple of times when I step towards the front of the board so I’m not sure that I would want it any higher.

Not to high. I built this exact mount and bought a 2.5 hp Suzuki short shaft. I get a lot of venting at any speed over 1/2 throttle. I just cut 2 1/2" off the top of the mounting plate to see if this helps. I will try it out in a couple of weeks. Wish I had bought a long shaft motor.
Cutting the mount did solve all my problems. No venting even on turns. Getting 10 mph.
@@brianccarr I run a Yamaha Short Shaft and I'm also having trouble finding the perfect height. The current height is around 8 inches and that put the anti-cavitation plate about an inch below the hull. I might need to bring it up a tad. Boat rides fast at 10-11 MPH, but also has a lot of spray, which I think is the plate hitting the water at speed.
