  • In this episode I am riding from Palapye in Botswana, towards the Tuli Block, right at the border with South Africa. What an incredible ride - I can't believe I am riding straight through elephant territory again and get to see so much wildlife. That they are serious about anti-poaching here in Botswana becomes clear to me when I see the sign saying that you will be shot if you stray off the main road...

"No lion no? Ok" what a relief Noraly, because when you stop to view a giraffe or an elephant dangerous animals like lions, hyenas and leopards could be camouflaged right next to you. Be safe. Thanks for allowing us to travel with you.

Lions and leopards spend most of their day sleeping under tree shades or near waterholes to get closer to their prey. Nothing much really to worry about stopping for herbivores viewing even on a motorcycle.

Those things you saw aren't cacti, they are euphorbia's. A case of Parallel Evolution. Euphorbia's grow in the old world (Africa) whilst cacti grow in the new world (America) though some species have been brought over from America to Africa and other continents (especially opuntias, the prickly pears). The main difference between them is that the sap in euphorbias is white and sticky, and poisonous.

Coming across a large elephant like that would be incredible. I imagine the trick is to remain calm, almost indifferent - but for a moment there when the ears briefly came up to let you know he had had enough. It must be really something when even the locals think your a very brave person to be riding alone through all the animals casually wandering about. Or was it the poacher they were referring to. Stay safe.

You made 7 hours riding look easy. The walk to your dinner was as if I was there with you. As usual your music, drone shots and editing made a wonderful story.
