    Hello Moms!
    If you have decided to stop breastfeeding or are unable to meet your milk supply needs, talk to your doctor about formula feeding! It’s a great substitution for breast milk, but you’ll need to choose the right type for you and your baby! There are three main types of baby formula. In this video, I’ll walk through the details of each. Keep watching for more!
    Formula Feeding Babies
    Here I have some examples of cow’s milk formula, including Enfamil and Similac. There are other varieties as well, including lactose-free formula and soy-based formula. When choosing a formula, you’ll also want to evaluate your own lifestyle. If you know you are going on a long trip and won’t have easy access to water, a liquid formula or concentrated liquid formula may be a better choice. Powdered formula, on the other hand, is great for making smaller or large quantities and is less expensive than liquid formula.
    When you use formula, you’ll want to check that your bottles are properly sterilized. Check my videos on this for further instructions! Next, pour in the desired amount of water, then pour in the proper amount of powdered formula. Attach the top of the bottle and shake well until all of the clumps have dissolved.
    For more on preparing formula, warming bottles, and how to bottle feed your baby, keep watching this and my other videos on formula! Thanks for viewing this formula feeding guide video!

    Thanks for the info! Just to let you know Brita water is NOT sterile... it just takes out some minerals that cause water to taste bad. I live in a community where we often have issues with ecoli and the Brita will not get rid of contaminates. The only options are to boil the water, use a reverse osmosis system, or buy distilled water.

    With my son, my parents and I always reused the mixed bottles left over he didn't finish. I never knew you had to throw them out, he did get thrush like 2 times. I wonder if this is from reusing them. I'm pregnant with my second and glad I know this and learned the formula feeding rules.

    Powder formula is just as easy traveling as it is at home. Leaving water in the bottles to sit on the counter or in the diaper bag and add the powder as soon as baby is hungry (pre-measure powder in a container or formula despenser when traveling). The formula is freshly made and already at room temperature. No refrigerating. No waiting on bottles to heat up. No waisting milk because it was left on the counter too long. This is also great for late night feedings.

      Kacie Leonard this is all for your own convenience... we make breastmilk for a reason! Studies show cows milk has too many hormones for a human baby and can actually do more harm in the future then good, plus the simple fact that, cows milk is made for baby cows. Why would god/evolution create mammals with breast? I also noticed babies who are fed formula also are very prone to nappy rash, indigestion, acid reflux, constipation more then a breastfed baby etc... studies also show that majority of babies who are breastfed have a higher IQ... these babies have to suffer for thier mothers comfort!.. if you understand the ingredients in formula, the two main ingredients are skim milk, which is strip of any nutrient and enzymes and also vegetable oil! Sure they've added some vitamins and what not, but the vitamins are synthetic!!! Why do you think hospital tru to promote breastfeeding now? All you are doing is feeding the industries at the own sake of your child...

      Han Banan so eating fast food and drinking soft drink is better then eating how we used to eat because were not primitive?. Sure it's more convenient and cheaper.. but does it make it better?.. Do u even know what is in formula and the real science behind cows milk and cows hormones compared to a humans? Do you think it's ok to give a infant cows milk with sugar and artificial additives plus vegtable oil? Especially when there livers are undeveloped?.. I see all these formula fed babies around me with weakened immune systems.. what you would call healthy, i would call unhealthy because my child never catches the cold or has constipation, acid reflux, stomachaches, etc.... it is called parents comfortability over the interest of there child! Why do you think nurses and hospitals push for parents to breastfeed now.. there are studies apon studies proving that breastmilk is better for your baby. It is naturally made for babies! They can absorb and filter it properly!... if you want to formula feed your child!.go ahead, but dont pretend like it's better for your child to make yourself feel better.

    • @kimle190

      Han Banan please watch *disturbing infant formula ingredients* be a good mother will you.... breastfeeding mothers are trying to educate you women and save your poor children from sickness they can avoid! Yes its angers us.. so stop thinking were just bragging and sitting on our high horse... we put in hard work!!! And its not for us! It's for our children! Vs you guys doing it for you!

Out of all the help videos I've looked at today, you are the most natural speaker, like you're actually just talking to us rather than reading from a script (and doing so very badly in most cases I've seen!). I like that you just talk normally and make us laugh with some of the honest things you've said. The videos and directions are also really clear and detailed without being complicated. Kim Le babies are perfectly fine with high quality formula. While it’ll never be as good as breastfeeding, it can come close. Especially if the mother breastfeeds first.
      Not everyone is rich, nor does everyone have the luxury of having months off at a time. That’s the purpose of formula.

    • @kimle190
      @kimle190 5 лет назад +1

      @@SittingPRETTY727 she could do better and pump, that would be doing her best. Also leaving a baby at such a tender age, it is a huge cause for disconnect and the rise of autism in children. Babies know nothing, u create what your child looks for and expects in the world. If the yh cant trust or build a bond with one person, they will carry that through their life. Look up the ingredients in formula and what the scientific terms actually mean, also while your at it, look up the molecules in breast milk vs formula. If u knew the health issues experienced by babies/children/adults who are/were formula fed vs breastfed, you wouldn't be talking . I know from experience. A woman's role is being under valued. Woman are undervalueing their important role. Arguably one of the most important roles. If anything, they are representing the lack of mothering.

      @@TheJosephPrice this is why a man roles is very important in the household, he works and supports the family during the critical years of a babies life! So the mother can do her very important job that sets the foundation for the rest of that child's life.

    I’m wondering about how measurements are done. Assuming my baby is 17 lbs, and a baby should have 2.5 - 3.0 oz of formula for every pound that they weigh, not exceeding 32 oz in 24 hours...
    So we mix 2 scopes for 4 oz of water. if you look at the bottle after it’s shaken (and the bubbles have settled- so say it settled overnight for the morning), the liquid measurement is about more like 4.25-4.50 oz. The similac container reads that 4 oz of water mixed with 2 scoops is actually only 4 oz of formula, not 4.25oz.
    So do I base my formula for the day as 32 oz (8- 4oz bottles), is or as 34 oz (8 x 4.25oz)? It sounds really nit picky, but I was to make sure I’m not over feeding my baby 👶
    We started with breast feeding and supplementing formula, but he was a preemie and my milk supply was low and then quit out when I got mastitis 6 weeks ago. Until now I’ve just been making 4oz bottles and feeding him, but now he wants more and I’m working with 5oz bottles. I just ordered some 8 today, but I also ordered a pitcher to mix multiple bottles at once. 😃

  • @Piapia76735

    If you put the lid on before the nipple and collar, the born free bottles won't leak! The lids fit over the solid white vent that goes on top of the clear vent. They never leak with the lid. That way you don't have to screw it on so tight. After feeding it is very difficult to unscrew the collar if you over tighten them.

    So my health visitor told me i'm doing the bottles wrong - with my brita and adding some warm boiled water - because it's not hot enough and doesn't kill the bacteria in the powder and it can harm my babies stomach. is that true? or is it safe to make formula at room temperature?

Yes wash your hands yes washer bottle yes use clean water and yes level the scoop out as much as you can but I don't sterilize my bottles and my children have never been sick from that my three-year-old has barely been sick and my 4 month old has yet to have any cold I use regular tap water definitely fed him a bottle that's been out longer than room temperature for an hour if I make an 8 oz bottle and he only drink an ounce of it I'm putting that thing back in the fridge cuz I cannot waste formula people make it sound so hard or so absolutely precise when it comes to feeding a baby formula but it's not use some common sense and you'll be fine

      The purpose of sterilizing the water and bottles is to prevent any potential harmful bacteria from getting into and onto your child.
      Companies aren’t perfect, sometimes formula may have traces of bacteria that can be fatal.
      Sounds like you’ve been lucky, which is great. But you’ve still been playing Russian roulette this entire time.

    I have nothing against moms who formula feed, but I am very happy and proud of my decision to breastfeed. I plan to nurse until my daughter is 1.5 years, and then give expressed breastmilk to her until she's at least 4. Fingers crossed I make it to my goal!

      What does this comment have to do with this video? Nothing. This is not a video about the choice to breastfeed. Your comment is insensitive to those moms who come here to learn about formula because they are UNABLE to breastfeed. Being "proud of your decision" doesn't matter because you are able to breastfeed...but think about how that statement makes a mom feel if she can't produce milk...

      She is a typical breast feeding mother look at me I breast feed my baby here let me make a video of my baby chewing in my nipple and wait for someone to say it's an inappropriate video so she can scream breastfeeding is a natural normal thing and you are the one with the problem. Just for attention you don't see people in third world countries wanting a pay in the back for breastfeeding they just do it and not make a big deal out of it. Self righteous I'm a better mother look at me! Attitude I think SOME women get mental issues when they become mothers. They get all weirded out and obsessed.

    Melissa what is the best formula to give my baby? She is about to turn 5 weeks old and has been exclusively breast fed. I was given a sample of similac nursettes for supplementing and a tub of infant premium enfamil but I've heard there all types of enfamil and similacs/ formula. My sister mentioned that I should be careful because some babies get hard stools due to to much iron in formula. I want to use formula only for emergencies / conscience.... Such as if I'm in the car and can't pull over to brestfeed, I'm somewhere where I can't stop to feed or I'm at work and can't pump enough milk to feed baby. Basically I want to use formula occasionally. I have also heard breast milk does not contain DHA AND VITAMIN D. Is this true? And if so that would be another reason I might want to too her off at night with some formula to ingest some extra vitamins.... And also to help her stay asleep a little longer;) please reply when u get the chance and thank u so much in advance.

      you need to get a life and mind your own business. If a mother wants to give her child formula that's her decision. Some women physically cannot breast feed and some women choose not to for various reasons.

      My baby almost starved and got jaundice the first two weeks of his life because I was exclusively breastfeeding him. Turns out I wasn't producing enough milk, so I have to supplement. Formula saved my baby's life and he's now thriving. I would have loved to exclusively breastfeed and cried a lot over not being able to, but I prefer my baby to be alive even if it means he gets some artificial nutrition rather than him dying if I had refused to supplement with formula.

      This video is not about breastfeeding. If a family has made the decision to formula feed, I'm sure that they've weighed the pros and cons for their situation. Some of us don't have a choice...your comment insinuating that we are not thinking about the health of our child is insulting.

      Unfortunately we cant all breastfeed.. Because u can dont think others can.. I was planning on breastfeeding myself and was disappointed when i found out I'm not producing any milk.. So this was a savor for my baby for not to die with hunger.. In the past mammas had to give their babies to other women to feed if they're not producing milk.. So try not to be rude to other mammas :)

      vieuphoria1008 I for one cannot breastfeed due to medications and vitamins my blood gene needs for my health and to stay alive. there's many reasons us mothers cannot breastfeed health wise but its our way of life as well for so many whom just cannot breastfeed. Being judgemental on ones way of life is so completely unnecessary. You wouldn't like nor prefer others doing it to you- don't do it to us. Not cool.. 👊

      For the love of god, lady. Not everyone who formula feeds is "taking the easy way out", nor does it mean they are uneducated.
      There are so many reasons why some women can't breastfeed, maybe look those up and educate yourself instead of shaming mothers for feeding their children.

    im a boob only mum and just so every body knows babies do great on breast only for up to 2 YEARS OLD not kidding. But for obvious reasons we arnt supposed to know this because certain business like formula and baby food have a problem...and I have several rear breastfeeding conditions making it almost impossible to b/f so if I have made friends with lactation consultants been educated and am still feeding my now very healthy vegan 5 years old then if you have a breast then you have no excesses but lack of support and information. I wish happy boobie days for all Melissa.

      CloudMom hello I wasn't expecting a reply from any one let alone your self thanks and as for my babies and feeding in future I will b/f for between 1/2 years unless these a good reason not to .but this was not possible with my little 5yr old boobie monster because after ending up in hospital from vaccination complications(I will never vaccinate any human or pet again after a lot of soul searching)the government hospitalised her and was going to take her off me if I did not put her on solids at 5.5 months and boy did they push the formula. They thought I was not able to breast feed her due to her being under weight despite me telling them she has gained lots when I worked out my diet from all that she was allergic to and she was chubby and healthy until 2 days after being vac at 10 weeks old, then suddenly she was screaming day and night and passing 10 huge stinky blobs of gut lining per day(no wonder she was in pain and losing weight until I rejected medical advice and found alternative lactation consultant.) this is why im now a full on hippie in every way possible, I have learnt the hard way after 2 not needed c/s vac injured kids but I am happy to say I found unschooling before school age.i used to be totally mainstream and could never have imagined my life today. now I would never go back kind regards Melissa Namaste.

      melissa o'callaghan This is not a video about breastfeeding. Coming here and spouting your feelings about breastfeeding is rude. You have no idea how/why some families choose to formula feed. You talk like it's as easy as simply making the decision the breastfeed...it's not like that for everyone. Giving someone who asks for formula advice the advice to just stop formula is NOT helpful advice and is incredibly rude. +cloudmom Your reply to such a comment has definitely made me think twice about continuing to watch your videos, as that is not showing any support to formula feeding moms. So disappointing...

      melissa o'callaghan this video has nothing to do, with breastfeeding why don't you take your breastfeeding nazi self and comment on one of the breastfeeding videos about why you choose to do so, I breastfed for five months but it wasn't a good experience , I hated every minute of it. I'm a happy formula feeding mama and won't ever breastfeed again. You should be ashamed.

      first neither is "better" than the other
      and second how in the hell is it free?
      covers for when you are in public, pump for when you are in public, bottles for public,nipple cream,etc. that stuff cost money! so HOW is it free?

    • @cuteyalexia
      @cuteyalexia 8 лет назад +5

      +Carlea Stafford In that case, it's almost free for me. I don't use a nursing cover, nipple cream nor a pump. I bought 2 bottles for the odd time that I'm out without the baby. I use my hands to express milk. Breast milk has more nutritive benefits than formula, but I believe that feeding a baby with formula is fine.

      formula isn't "fine" it's great!

    Mixing the formula that way is going to make a lot of micro bubbles in the bottle and probably you are going to have a hard time to completely burp the baby, by holding the bottle at the neck/top and moving the bottom in circular motion to mix the formula will give you less micro bubbles.

  • @51Saffron
    @51Saffron 5 лет назад

    I think it varies as well. When I was feeding my babies, they are all adults now, we boiled the water, warmed the formula and also had it at room temperature, depending on the baby's preference. We did sterilize the bottles, but many others just washed them thoroughly in hot water. Nipples were also sanitized. My friend didn't really do all that and all her children were strong robust boys, now men.
