  • We’re working on the new 8.1L today. It has the notorious bent frame so we straitened it up and fix the weak spots. We have some big plans for this 8.1 as well as the 6.0 so be sure to stick around and hear what we plan to do with them!

Just found your channel. I'm a BowTie till i die Suburban man. I have a collection of them. All years. The one I'm building now is a 99 Suburban LS K2500 4x4 6.5 Diesel was 1 owner 40k. There the ultimate vehicle. You can buy a aftermarket frame kit to replace the connectors. They are inexpensive prefabricated. Good luck building.

I may do that for the one that hasn’t been bent yet just to beef it up

Got a recommended source for the frame kit? That sounds handy. I need to do this on my 2001 8.1L but I'm not seeing anything online. Or I don't know what to search for.

Loved that era Suburban, especially the 3/4 tons, but damn the rust.

On flat roads, a 3/4 ton burb will tow just about as well as a diesel. It has the hd suspension and tires that make the load seem to disappear. It's climbing mountain passes and accelerating uphill that separate the two. Gas can't accelerate a load up a hill or even hold a highway speed in some cases. You know where you will pull it and how big a deal that is. I went from towing a Jeep on a car hauler with a ram Cummins to a 2500 6.0 suburban. Hills are the only place I really noticed a difference. Diesels are so expensive. It's one thing if you're buying a brand new truck to spend the extra $10k. But when you are looking at 20 year old trucks, the LS is hard to beat for the cost and capability.

my 01 6.0 3/4 ton has the duel fuel tank as well.

yep on the aux tank I planned on putting the 8 gallon aux tank on my 1500 to make it 40 gallons I just cannot find a wrecked 3/4 ton to get it from. you need the filler neck the pump for the tank I planned on just using a on off switch and a universal fuel gauge for the aux tank. MEGABURB YASSSSSS I like gas burners personally...

    • @trove1312

That would work. I haven’t investigated the frame situation yet to see if it would even fit. I’ll be looking into it at some point though

@@trove1312 don't hold me too it but I believe you would have to cut the crossmember that holds the spare out to fit the tank.... the 3/4 tons sit higher off the frame and aux tank fits above the frame. But in my situation with my spare on the bumper I can cut that out without problems. There are some other cheap options for the aux tank on the burbs such as an F150 tank and such.

That’s what I was thinking. My hope was that I could take both tanks and all the hoses from a 3/4 ton and put it all in my half ton so it would be pretty close to factory. I’ll have to look into it a little more to see if that’s even possible.

Hi overlandtowater, I work in the junkyard & aftermarket business. I'm also a GM Suburban guy. You can remove the under frame spare tire & install a diesel tank & just use it for gas. Also get a dash cluster out of a pickup that had dual tanks & get the tank diverting valve on frame. You will have correct setup. Just a thought. Also the make filler necks aftermarket.

You stated several times you have projects but not enough money (not verbatim). Well, welcome to the crowd. Most of us are tapped out at present due to mismanagement on a gargantuan scale within our nation. If you figure a way, let me know too. Perhaps one day those kids will provide you with the means to be able. In the meantime, though having a family does tend to drain the resources both in time and money. Been there and done that. Then after building a business they figure a way to take it back away from you. The forces of evil are always working to destroy His creation. Satan made that clear at the time of the rebellion against The Creator.
While He wanted us to have life and have it abundantly, He also reminded us that the meek will inherit the earth. Galatians 5 tells us about the fruits of the spirit, one of which is long-suffering (patience). We all need to let the plan unfold. In due time all things will become clear.

We just have to keep working on the job that is in front of us and try to make wise decisions. We're still far more wealthy than the vast majority of the world so we have to keep things in perspective.
