Love all the videos on this site. I first fell in love with rare cars visiting the Harrah's Auto Museum, the even better Montana Auto Museum, and Pioneer Village in Nebraska (which I visited when just '14 in '75). Jay's videos cover such a range of autos and motorcycles, from the dawn of autos to the present. He also has excellent guests. I prayed for Jay when he was in the hospital and we're blessed with more videos. It is hard in a museum to find a docent who explains the exhibits. I always tag along with the older visitors who have been around cars since they could drive. But over the past 50 years I find fewer who knew the first cars, like the Model T, so Jay's videos are excellent.
Regarding the aerodynamics, I saw a video recently, and most of the car actually is very aerodynamic, with little to no flow separation, but what kills it, and gives the car a fairly poor drag coefficient -- 0.46 IIRC -- is the wheel flares, and the blunt, flat cut off of the rear end, which also sits up pretty high. These things create a very large wake that throws off vortices. If you redesigned the rear end to correct this and eliminate the wake, the car could end up with a very good drag coefficient. But then it wouldn't have the same aggressive appearance that everyone loves about it.
I much prefer the "round belly" version of this car. Interesting factoid: These would reach 60 mph in 4.3 seconds, and run the quarter mile in 12.5 @ 115 mph. These are the same specs as a '14-'16 Porsche Cayman S with PDK..... Great video!
Honestly that’s faster than I expected it to be. Was that like the specs from back in the day or done more recently? Just curious because if it was from the late 80s I wonder what times it could put down today with the grip of some nicer modern tires
@@austinmoore5334those numbers are very optimistic and probably one shot bests ever done. Most places have the 0-60 around 5 seconds and 1/4 around 13s at 105mph. Plus the corners are where the Cayman would really destroy it
Neither the Countach or Ferrari 512bb could go 200 mph. Car and Driver tested them and they both topped out at about 180 mph. Jay jumped all over that 200 mph claim.
Jay tends to repeat the same anecdotes over and over again and doesn't have much interesting insight into the design, for example. Guests add lots of value in that respect. How many times has Jay said, "Gee, this could've been built today!" lol
What a load of crap. People seem to think Leno is some kind of automotive oracle. In so many videos there are so many errors. He knows a lot, but many of his guests have definitely known more. Well done jay, your guest was amazing too, I live for these videos ❤
Stunning work of art!! 👌🏾
Had a photo of this car on my bedroom wall when I was a kid and didn't understand FACTS
You didn't. Shoe.
Everyone did
@@ChefCurry420 You can't know this. You just recycle something someone else said.
I had poster of FARRAH FAWCETT IN 1 PIECE SWIM SUIT !!!
Same along with one of Bo and Luke Duke along with Daisy Duke
This is Art on 4 wheels ❤
I had a childhood friend whose dad was an architect. Wanted a Countach, but couldn't afford one. Bought a Pantera instead.
I loved the Pantera - looked as good as this one.
Pantera is no Countach but it's not at all a bad consolation prize. In fact the original Pantera had much better aero than any Countach
Not a downgrade, Pantera is the coolest of any 70s-up car made
The most iconic supercar design ever made IMO. Thanks for taking us on the ride.
Plus the corners are where the Cayman would really destroy it
@@papa_pt 40 damn year's later it better win!
@@papa_pt oh for sure. I’m not wondering about cornering. I just figured the countach woulda been low to mid 5s.
Always thought the wing and vents was the raddest version, still love it
Still such a cool car!
Gorgeous paint on that Lamborghini!
It's kind of funny that this guy tries to go over the history of Countach in front of Jay Leno, like he knows about the cars more than Jay.
And frankly, here the owner comes off as someone who would know more.
Also, why does Leno not mention that Lamborghini forced people to buy an LM002 to order the 25 Anni car? He always complain about Ferrari.
As if Jay didnt know 10x more about the story himself...
@@AB-80X Hes got good reason to along with many others.
Nobody knows everything but I bet he knows more about most cars from the first steamer and electric to todays cars...better than most
Great Video!
Nobody considers the Countach more beautiful than a Miura. We buy the Countach because we can’t afford the Miura.
I consider the Countach to be vastly more beautiful than the Miura. The Miura is aesthetically unremarkable. I don't understand what people see in it.
@@f3uibeghardt522agree totally.
@@f3uibeghardt522 I see things Ive always liked about it but much I dont, from the time I was a 70s kid.
Jay Leno, Miles Davis and Lamborghini Miura a trifecta ❤
The original prototype and maybe 1st few were truly beautiful...so pure.
These later ones - not so much. Great video!!!
Agree. The 1974 looks like a proper evolution of the Miura.
25th is the best looking. Older men seem to prefer the original design. Younger generation prefer the Pagani version.
Great episode
Jay needs to have Ian Tyrrell on his show.
I think if you ask Iain about that, he will say no. Iain's knowledge is on a completely different level.
That engine is the best. I remember being a child and hearing it at the beginning of cannonball run the movie. Loved Lamborghini ever since
Loved the girls in junior high back then who started wearing "hooker pants" same as the ladies in the movie. THank you santa.
@@gordocarbo I know what you mean ;)
I rate this conversation as one of the best on this channel just for the detailled knowledge and admiration of the analogue car culture of the past. Well done Jay and Alex!
