My HP printer was getting a printhead error too. Always used genuine ink. Tried cleaning contacts, etc., no luck. Finally decided it's cheaper to just buy a new printer, especially if your time is worth anything. Of course I stripped the printer to save any electrical parts for my junk bins, so at least there's that....
Use a ultrasonic clear and and acetone with water as a solvent cleaner for dry ink
