    I don’t recommend doing this, this is a safety device to keep people from stealing your vehicle! I’m not responsible if your vehicle gets stolen or breaks, I did this because I off road and if it gets wet it’s locks you out of the Jeep

      are you sure the issue was the skim?. you dont think the issue was the pcm in the first place? .. multiple lights came on and your gauges dropped.. I think the skim light was coming on because the computer was on the fritz... Im speaking from personal experience I am experiencing the same exact issue currently and tried looking into that

      @@hurleydavid11 not 100% solved.. but after a ton of research and diagnosing through forums and videos.. im almost sure its a grounding issue.. im currently working to cleaning any existing grounds up as best as i can.. some require a bit more work to get to than others.. but it most likely cost you the least amount of money to do.. i realized the newer wj's had more re enforced grounding while looking around at junk yards.. i also tested this by moving the eyelets around on .. a slight shift in any direction and it just wouldnt start up as quickly.. worse idle's.. and will shut off.. im planning to just re do all of them and upgrade the big 3 cables.. i just wanted to make sure this is my problem..
      people keep saying its the pcu.. i understand the pcu regulates voltages.. but if theres a short in wiring at any one point in the car.. the PCU will not read the proper voltage that is supposed to be sent to it.. therefore not outputting the correct voltage for every thing to run properly..

    Thanks man! I just picked up this jeep a couple weeks ago and now it's running cherry. JUST AN FYI FOR ANYONE WITH OVERHEATING ISSUES AND GETTING THE p1499 code this also fixed that. I guess my old ECU wasn't giving the solenoid power and thus the cooling fan only ran at low RPM where it should be running very high RPM to keep engine cool especially at idle! I thought it was the solenoid but after doing this I haven't had any problems!! Keep in mind this is only for the Hydraulic cooling fan on 4.7 GC's. Awesome video bro!

    Remove the SKIM halo. Remove the PCM on your firewall. Take it to your Auto Zone & they will delete the SKIM info. All you need is the VIN, mileage numbers. Put the PCM back. Don't replace the SKIM module halo & you're good to go. It's only $198 with the core or $398 without. Update: Make sure to disconnect the battery before removing anything. It's called "flashing" the PCM. My car is a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee.

These models made the ground wire good, but the power wire in the doors is too long, gets caught and snipped. I found a youtube video showing issue, checked mine and fixed in five minute.

    I wish I woulda known that you had to unplug the SKIM sensor BEFORE powering up the new “plug and play” PCM I had bought and installed into my WJ… It bricked the PCM as a SKIM equipped vehicle and made it have the exact same issue as before… They should put instructions and not just tell people “plug and play” when selling things like that… Sold the vehicle before I found out the proper way to do this cuz as he states in this video there’s a lot of bs and not a lot of this definitely works info out there… so thank you for making this video and showing people the correct procedure cuz I sure as hell woulda liked to have this knowledge prior to selling a beautiful vehicle for such a simple fix once you know how… the dealership couldn’t even tell me the correct way to remedy the issue and two shops couldn’t either…

    THE "ACTUAL" SOLUTION:" On my 2000, the problem exists within the SKIM immobilizer. Remove the steering column cover by removing the single screw that holds the bottom portion on, then separate the two halves. Thereafter, unscrew the immobilizer upon removing the wiring connection, and carefully remove the round portion that goes around the ignition key tumbler. Carefully separate the two halves of the immobilizer and you'll see two relatively large solder points. They attach the wire that runs within and around the key tumbler. If you look closely, possibly using a magnifying glass, you'll see hairline cracks in the solder. If so, re-flow the old solder with some new solder and reinstall. Then, look at the lower half of your steering column cover. See that long boss that the screw you removed runs in? Take a Dremel and remove half of it long ways, leaving the half that isn't slamming into your immobilizer every time you tilt your steering down (Courtesy of Chrysler). Oh, and if you tilt the steering down, further hold it there, and the car starts when you turn your key, then this is likely your problem. I ran my car that way for years before figuring this out... cheers!

      @r.weaver3769 2 года назад +4

      I knew it had to be something fixable without all the flashing, reprograming, etc...noise. Mine quit charging, solder joints cracked. Like you said couldn't see cracks, but I have one of those old magnifiers from Radio Shack the makes them visible. Also, desolder joints and reflow with 60/40 leaded solder. I read somewhere they use lead free solder, messing with tube amps that use lead free solder, heat and vibration causes broken solder joints all the time, reflowing with leaded fixes this.

    A couple of things. You need to also have the replacement PCM coded to your car. The people who deleted the SKIM on the replacement PCM would normally have asked you for your VIN so they can do that. Also, you MUST discard the skim reader so that it is never reconnected because if the reader is present it will reactivate the skim in the PCM and you'll be back to square one.

      I've got a crack taxi driver who took it to another shop, they swapped the pc, never wrote data to new PCM, rather they just threw a new one from a scrap yard on it. Not very bright and if you don't know what you're doing it'll cost you. So far they're at $175 on diag time and that doesn't include to remove skim, remove and install PCM before.
      I'd say $400 ~ $500 minimum and then some. Stupid tax has to be included as well. People don't think about the end game generally.

    • @chasermalloy7406
      @chasermalloy7406 Год назад +1

      @@dtnel Yep All Comp resources are one of the few who get it right. Most wreckers in my experience tell people they only need the PCM, key and skim reader to get their jeep going. Many of them know damn well it isn't but they sell the set anyway. So, as you say by the time the owner has then had it properly done ( Even if it's just having the car's vin entered ) on top of paying for the used PCM, they're at the sort of figure you're talking about. A/C Resources will either receive your original PCM, do the skim delete and return it OR they will send you a replacement Skim deleted PCM. In the latter case they will ask you for the VIN number of your vehicle which they will insert in your replacement PCM before sending it to you. It's normally around the $200 mark to do yours but I think the service is currently on special for $157 or something. You won't do better and I really think deactivating the Skim is the only sensible move. Unless you want to spend silly money making spare keys you could easily end up in the same situation again. Apart from that the skim reader units have also been known to fail which leaves you just as stranded. You can easily manage to immobilize the car a million ways if you're worried about that. BTW are you going to pay the shop who took on the job on a vehicle they don't have the required expertise on ? They could whistle for it if it was me.

    I’m pretty positive this is the issue I just ran into. I sent a brand new mopar Chrysler PCM for my 05 LJ to Mark at Wranglerfix to be programmed. It looks like they programmed the computer disabling the skim in the computer; however, I have a sentry key immobilizer module attached to the steering column and two keys with the fob that all work together with a PCM that has the skim enabled.
    So when I installed the programmed PCM earlier today, used the factory chip key, sentry key immobilizer still connected, the Jeep is cranking but there’s no fire. I had no clue about this. Wish I would have been asked this prior so smething like this wouldn’t have happened. I’ve removed the sentry key immobilizer, but was told that there’s no going back once you try with the immobilizer connected- because that connector and it’s wires go directly to the pcm plug and sends it information. The sentry key immobilizer sent information to the pcm that has no skim enabled and activated it is what I been told. It looks like the pcm needs to be reflashed and programmed to my vin and mileage again deleting the skim within, except this time with the key immobilizer out of my Jeep and disconnected it shouldn’t set the PCM off to prevent it from starting. I’m really at a lost for words and have had a migraine for the past 8 hours, reading up a storm about this. This is what looks like happened.
    The only question I have though is what key am I to use once I get the pcm reprogrammed without the skim and no sentry key immobilizer installed on my Jeep- which key do I use to turn the engine? And will using one of the programmed keys corrupt the pcm again causing another problem like this? I have two chip keys, and I have a non chip key.

      Before sending the pcm back to Florida (I live in Toronto), I’m going to try 1 thing that I can’t stop thinking about....and that’s the crankshaft position sensor. I’m going to replace it. It’s a crank and no start issue I’m having- the cps error code wasnt showing BUT back in December it came on and my Jeep acted so crazy. It needed to crank longer normal to turn over and then immediately the engine cel was flashing....knew smething was wrong...drove less then a kilometre and the engine started hiccuping and almost stalled. I drove it back home and check the codes and got the cps error code, so I removed it and there was about a quarter inch of oil and dirt at the end of the sensor preventing it from reading the teeth and throwing the timing off. I cleaned it all off and it fired right up, problem never returned. But it’s making me question now since this happened if that sensor needs to be replaced entirely, not just cleaned. For the hell of it and whatever it’s worth I’m just going to replace it entirely tomorrow and see if the engine fires before sending the pcm back. It’s been a nightmare with my Jeep for over a year now.

The driver seat barely has anywhere on it and almost looks just like the rear seats that look brand new. It’s been sitting up since 2018 and I’m just now seeing this video. I would love to get it running and start driving it again. So let me get this straight…. What I need to do is pull my PCM out and order a new one. But when I order it, I’ll have to tell them that I want the skim to be disabled, or laying dormant, right? Also if you’re ordering a new one, what is the purpose of getting it flashed? And then 'fool' it? Could it be as simple as just cutting a wire or three? Or cutting two of the wires and splicing them together? To make the PCM always think that the skim unit it sending the signal for 'key present'....

    I am unclear on what he did in the second part after he removed the battery and the rest of the stuff. I saw him take the SKIM out under the steering wheel (in the first part), but it looks like he just unplugged and plugged the same stuff back in in the second part. Was this to reset something, or did he actually remove something (permanently) in that area?

    Also what you can do is when you're taking battery terminals off put the two battery terminals together do not have them connected to the battery and connect the positive and red together and make sure they're not touching the battery obviously don't blow anything up and hopefully they'll reset your PC you been there done that

    Why do you need to program the new pcm to your vin??

    • @call_me_danger
      @call_me_danger 4 года назад +1

      Because the ecu vin number must match the other modules vin numbers or the car will not start. Like in a 2008 charger, the engine ecu must have the same vin number as the wireless ignition node and the cabin control node/body control module. If any of the nodes has a mismatched vin number, it will enable the security lock out and the car will not start.

    Can you still use the chopped key if you do this. ?? I bought a 2000 grand Cherokee but had a 02 motor put in. Prior to my purchase. And has only 1 key ( chipped). Jeep starts for 30secs and dies . Also sounds like relays under hood are clicking with lights flashing when battery is hooked up , Guy I bought it from said needs a new pcm - but with the clicking relays and lights flashing while battery is hooked up. Confuses me . The Jeep does start but pretty much immediately dies won’t stay running. Is it pcm or ??? I’m lil baffled and don’t wanna throw $ out chasing a fix.

    I'm having similar issues with my 2000 jeep grand cherokee limited so I just ordered a new computer and am going to do the same as you did in this video. You mentioned any issue with wiring or sensors can cause problems with the skim unit. My question is, if I replace the computer without the skim activated and whatever issue, wiring, sensor...whatever remains, will that cause the new computer to fail or is it all in the skim? Will deleting the skim keep my cherokee running even if there may be wiring or sensor issues? Funny thing is everything works as long as the engine isn't running. Once it's running that's when everything goes out and the key light comes on. No power windows, locks, gauges, etc... but when the engine is off but the key is turned on everything works fine. Thank you and great video.

Do you have any ideas why my jeep starts drives nice and eventually just stalls while driving there are days it won’t start for a while and then she does but shuts off before we move. Please give any ideas or advice. We feel it’s something pretty simple that we can do before we have to send it to a garage.

      @@meganlynn4365 honestly couldn’t figure it out. I believe when I ordered the new computer with the skim module deactivated and installed it I should have actually removed the skim module from the ignition before I starting the Jeep back up. Idk if that’s why it started and ran fine just no dash cause security system was deactivated so it let it run but at same time without removing the module it tripped the alarm so dash wouldn’t work and and security light was still on. I drove the Jeep like that for probably about 2 years never any issues but sunroof also had been draining into foot wells so idk what all was corroded. If I were to do it again I’d buy pcm with skim deactivated remove skim from steering column install the new computer then start it up. I’m by no means a professional and this is just from memory from a few years ago of what I had read. Sorry for your troubles definitely a pain in the butt. If you figure it out let me know I’d be interested.
