I have a question, when you get to the end and your pulling out the part with the 3 plug in part are you take it out completely or are you replacing it with another one? Please I need help
@@jenniferfaye441 what is doing is taking it out and sending it to get the security and skim unit functions deactivated and then putting it back in but you have to disconnect the skin before you put it back in what is going on with your Jeep
I am about to have my SKIM delete done after losing my key. I replaced the barrel and key which will now just be e dead metal key and barrel. One thing as you probably know is that you MUST remove the SKIM reader before reinstalling the SKIM deleted ECU / PCM. If it is left connected it reactivates the SKIM system and you're back to square one. Good video.
I have a 2004 Grand Cherokee 4.0 4x4 & I called my local Auto Zone & for $197.19 they deleted the SKIM module. All you need to do is bring in the PCM, the mileage & VIN#. Done! Thank you so much for this video. Before I found your video I took it to a shop & they burned me for $500 saying they couldn't fix it & sent me to a local dealer who would of charged me $1700! I googled & found you...😊
DUDE!!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH,did everything you said that company did just like you showed,ZERO ISSUES WITH MY JEEP FINALLY,only cost 270 bucks compared to +1,000's.
This actually works. I just fixed my nephew’s 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee V8 Saturday morning. They now charge $125 to reprogram the computer. But since my nephew lives 5 hours away (10 hours roundtrip drive time, not including removing the computer), it was cheaper and saved me time by ordering one of their computers with his VIN# programmed in it for $234, they also charged an additional $50 to program the computer to bypass the skim, so a total of $284 including shipping. I ordered the computer on Tuesday, January 7, 2020 and received the new computer on Friday, January 10, 2020. I made that 5 hour ride late Friday night. After installing the new computer and with the skim removed, the Jeep would crank and run, but it was still in anti-theft mode, the horn and lights would flash and the power window switch and locks on the drivers door would not work. I disconnected the battery, reconnected the skim, held both positive and negative battery cables together for 3 minutes to reset the computer. Reconnected the battery. Now everything works like it’s supposed to. Thanks for this post!!! The stealership told me it just needed a new key fob programmed to the vehicle, a cost of $289 + $89 = $378 not including taxes. Had I listened to them I would have been out of an additional $378 + taxes, because that a key fob would not have fixed the problem.
Travel Ambiance that’s awesome news. I’m glad my video helped you and saved you money! That makes me very glad I have this channel. Helping my fellow jeepers is what’s it’s all about.
So you reconnected the skim module and held the cables together huu. I just got the skim delete from ALL COMPUTER RESOURCES aswell an the jeep runs great, it always has. It’s my guages/ windows/ door locks/ key fob will lock an unlock all doors but the driver. I tried everything can’t seem to get everything back to normal.

@@JustJeep_It I am having my jeep randomly shut off and all guages drop then it won't start because the immobilizer, do you think deleting the skim will fix my issue?
@@Bisnus-Goose Usually the SKIM security function shuts off the vehicle after 2 seconds..But it's a Jeep so anything is possible. a random shut off sounds like you have other issues than a SKIM issue.

Thsnk you for the referral. When i bought my Jeep 3 years ago my mechanic used the same people for a refurbished brain and i currently have this issue going on. The lady Jessi was extremely nice and helpful. I didn't call her back on time with the VIN number and they closed but you were a great help and i thank you for the content. By the way if anyone is doing the disconnect the battery trick like he desribes there is no need to wait 10 to 20 min just step on the brakes or turn on the headlights or anything all you need to do is drain the stored energy that is held in and capacitors in the computer
We have a 2014 Jeep Rubicon JK, 3.6. We have an ongoing no start problem randomly. What we do is we pull the 20 amp fuse that controls the SKIM module and wait 15 minutes. This usually works 95% of the time. We have replaced the SKIM module and cut new keys and the SKIM module was reprogrammed for all the keys we have. Even with the replacement of the SKIM module and the reprogram of the new keys, we still have the same problem. It has been to the dealer to have the work done that I mentioned above. That being said, the dealer has a scan tool that is made just for programming the SKIM module and keys. With everything that has been done, this is still an ongoing problem. Additionally, when using as DTC code reader, no fault codes have ever come up through this process. The next step is to send the ECM to the place in Florida that you refer to in this video. As soon as this has been completed we will post an update.
Omg this was sooo helpful! I just put new plugs wires battery radiator bank 2 sensor and alternator put on my sons Jeep and it did just what the video stated! Started for about 5-10 secs then shut off! Plugged in my FIXD and it gave me this issue! I work on my own vehicles a lot! If RUclips can tell me what to and it’s simple, I will fix it myself! This video was great! Now to go find this gadget with the ring lol
thank you becausw i just bought a jeep for 250 because of this exact problem. i knew there had to be a way to fix ix! so now for 250 plus cost of removing the skim from the ecm i will have an excellent running vehicle
I did this and it worked like magic. all you hve to do is Use a lock to avoid vehicle being stolen again in my case, however i connected the SKIM module thinking it'll be no biggie and to lock and unlock doors with the remote. So im back to square one the engine died on spot and wont start. I will wait until tomorrow to try or i will have to call them back. So to finish here, thanks for the info in this video it did help and those people at Computers resources did a great job i was able to start my car and had no issues until today but it was my mistake. i will update the results thanks
Chipped keys are so awful. If I was that worried about vehicle theft, I would make sure to have good insurance coverage. I don't need nor want the added complication of having a SKIM or similar module telling me whether I can start my vehicle or not. Thanks for posting your experience getting the SKIM functionality deleted from your PCM.
Hi there Joe! I just wanted to say thank you for this video as it got me started in the right direction. I have a Dodge Stratus 2000 and I was able to get rid of the SKIM module and the random "won't start" issue, after performing a "SKIM/RESET" and a VIN/SRI rewrite to the PCM, (the Stratus has a SBEC3 PCM, not a JTEC as Jeeps do) with the Drew J2534 Toolbox and a Snap On PRO III device. An interesting fact, is that the red IMMO light is not on at all, (maybe because it is a SBEC3 PCM) so that's weird, but I think that my car is working great, and I really hope it will remain this way. Actually I tested it with a metal key (no chip) and it started right the way, of course tha this was not possible before with the SKIM module on, and for me this is an important test. Thanks again and regards from Mexico City.
I have 2007 Dodge Dakota and I am also in Mexico. I can't find anyone to do the SKIM delete on the PCM here in Mexico. Do you know anyone in Mexico that can perform this service? Shipping to and from the US will be costly and slow. Gracias!!
I lost my key and I should have checked your channel out! I just paid for a new Fob and the dummy can't program it to my Jeep. I could've save the time, hassel and esp the $$$...I could kick myself in the A!!! THANK YOU!!!
Terrie L Crable argh. Why did Jeep do this!!! Sorry!! They should get it right for you! Don’t let them brush the problem off. Hopefully they will get it fixed and u will be on your way!!!
Thank you for posting this I will try it out. I've been trying to figure out what the heck is going on for a while. I replaced the ignition switch which was a major pain the the rear. It worked for about three days and then it went back to doing the exact same thing again. So I will check out the skim module as you suggested and see what I get. Thanks again.
Thanks for this ... my understanding is that reprogramming and not including skim would result in the light not illuminating, but I still see the light on your dash. My understanding is by removing the PCM the light stays on -- only the reprogram (after the SKIM is removed) will keep the light off. Helpful nonetheless ... I've changed a fuel pump , ignition switch, lock cylinder, actuator ... what a headache.
Thanks for the video. My daughter has a used 2002 Jeep Liberty and - with help from friends and the internet - we think the security system is the reason it won't start.
This is actually a very "common" problem with various Jeeps. Before you do all of these things mentioned in this video, try the following FIRST to reset the SKIM. It is free and cost you about 2 minutes of work. In order to reset the SKIM (regardless of the model or year of manufacturing of the car), there MUST be 3 different steps, within a timeframe of 10 seconds, and done in the correct order, to reset the SKIM and sync to the ECU (the "brain" of your Jeep). Remember that it is ALWAYS 3 steps! Newer US cars have 3 buttons: Unlock, Lock and "Panic" button. Old cars only have "Unlock" and "Lock" buttons (i.e. only 2 buttons). Step number 3 (which you MUST have) therefore has no button to carry out. But take courage! After lots of trial and errors, I found what is step 3, at least at a Jeep Grand Cherokee 3.1 Turbo diesel, 1999 - 2004 range 🥳 Common to both old and new cars; Unlock the car, get in (on the driver's side. There are sensors that detect where you sit) and close the door. The door MUST be closed! If you previously followed som bad RUclips advice about how to disable the door and seat sensor, you now have a great reason to fix what was really the reason for this sensor to malfunction 😜 BOTH has to work! You have 10 seconds to complete ALL steps! But no worries; You can spend as much time as you want getting into the car 🤪 On a new car, do the following to reset; Turn the ignition "ON". Then press the "lock" button 10 times (it must "click" in the lock each time, or the attempt does not count). Then press the "panic button" 1 time, and then press unlock 1 time. Voila. things are reset. Turn off the ignition and start the car. Some cars start without turning off the ignition. ALL cars accept that you turn off the ignition after reset of the SKIM/ ECU. If this procedure do not work, and you DID NOT turn OFF the ignition first, please repeat the steps and turn ignition to "OFF" before trying to start the car. The reason for this is that the ECU (the "brain" of your car) needs to re-boot and the only time the ECU re-boots is when you turn the ignition to "Off". For those of us who have older cars (and no "panic button"), do the following; Turn the ignition "ON". Then press the "lock" button 10 times (it must "click" in the lock each time, or the attempt does not count). Then turn the ignition off, wait 1 second (turning OFF and waiting 1 second is step 3 on old cars) and turn the ignition "ON" again. Wait until lights go out (1-2 more seconds) and then press unlock 1 time. Voila. things are reset. If the car takes too long to turn off the lights (i.e. you don't make it through the full cycle in 10 seconds), try pressing "Unlock" as soon as you turn the ignition back on EDIT; For some models, you will need to turn the ignition to "OFF" after pressing "Un-lock". This is due to the need for the ECU to re-start one more time to re-set/ sync proparly. This will fix the error in 99% of times, with most Jeeps, when it happens. Mostly this happen when the SKIM module and the ECM gets "out of sync". Other reasons is normally that the ATS relè is malfunctioning. The relè is cheap and can be bought almost "anywhere". This also is a "common" Jeep error but the cause to the error may be hard to find (due to lack of diagnostics codes). The ECU (brain) of Jeeps do not store "random" error codes (engine has to run for over 4 seconds for error codes to be stored), so start-up problems is hard to find using diagnostic tools. This is a great feature when the engine is running. Everyone knows that in the start-up seconds a lot of "garbage" codes is thrown and make diagnostics tools almost worthless. In the other hand, it makes a great deal of problems when the problem is that the engine do not start, or run for less than 4 seconds.
I called my local dodge jeep ram dealership and they didn't have any idea what caused this. Came to do a search found you're video. Im a second jeep grand cherokee laredo owner and im having the same issue with my jeep. Two days ago ran fine then yesterday the key indicator light came on ran for about 3 seconds but also reads empty when I know for a fact that i have a full tank of gas in her. Hopefully this will cure the problem. Just waiting for them to call me back to see what they have to say.
Did programing the skim out solve the other gauge issue? I am having intermittant gauges going on and off then last night the no run key light on issue
I got a remote starter that came with an immobilizer bypass module for $100 for my jeep. But if you can't wire it yourself like I did you have to pay a garage.
Mine is an 02 as well ,, my key cylinder finally wore out , had a new cylinder put in at a local shop , but I still have to have it towed to Chrysler to have a key cut and programmed to the new cylinder ,, sound familiar ??
THE "ACTUAL" SOLUTION:" On my 2000, the problem exists within the SKIM immobilizer (module). Remove the steering column cover by removing the single screw that holds the bottom portion on, then separate the two halves. Thereafter, unscrew the immobilizer upon removing the wiring connection, and carefully remove the round portion that goes around the ignition key tumbler. Carefully separate the two halves of the immobilizer and you'll see two relatively large solder points. They attach the wire that runs within and around the key tumbler. If you look closely, possibly using a magnifying glass, you'll see hairline cracks in the solder. If so, re-flow the old solder with some new solder and reinstall. Then, look at the lower half of your steering column cover. See that long boss that the screw you removed runs in? Take a Dremel and remove half of it long ways, leaving the half that isn't slamming into your immobilizer every time you tilt your steering down (Courtesy of Chrysler). Oh, and if you tilt the steering down, further hold it there, and the car starts when you turn your key, then this is likely your problem. I ran my car that way for years before figuring this out... cheers!
Wow I learned something about my used jeep. That light comes on and I have only one key. It happens to be black so no chip. Now I will take it apart to see if there is a skim module and whether it is just un plugged. Maybe it was programed already. I want the skim to work but maybe I will set something else up instead for anti theft. Either way great info you shared thanks.
I've had the same issue on 99, when I read the ecm vin number, it read last 6 digits in weird non recognizeble text. Using my x431 launch I set the correct vin in. Truck started up right away, no problems since.
HEY I FOUND THE ACTUAL FIX INSTEAD OF JUST BYPASSING..... I had this same issue. There is a rubber boot in the passenger side door and the power wire, which is a thick brown wire with a white stripe, is probably broken. These models made the ground wire good, but the power wire in the doors is too long, gets caught and snipped. I found a youtube video showing issue, checked mine and fixed in five minute.

Hi. I seem to have the same issue on a 2000 Grand Cherokee. My code reader when hooked up tells me it can’t communicate with the vehicle because of the key (original key). I’m assuming though if I have the ECM deleted of the key chip or transponder would the code reader still communicate? With the light on the dash still coming on, the ECM is telling it something is at fault even though the car starts. Thanks

To tell you the truth, it got put on the back burner for a little bit, due to some greater catastrophes that sprang up between the jeep and I! But, i will persevere in the end. And thanks to you, its nice to know i have a jeep to come back to with a bit of confidence instead of that cloud of darkness and confusion that blanken my expressions EVERY time i try to diagnose fuel injected cars.

Hi; I have a Jeep Liberty 2003. I have a question: Is it possible that a car with this problem can start and stay running for more than 2 minutes... 15 minutes and shot dawn? Then wont start until 1/2 hour later.?
I’m not too familiar with it the liberty set up. It could be a bunch of things. I would say the motor should shut down way sooner than 2 minutes with a security issue.
I would like to remove the skim module and shoot it. However, if I understand your video correctly..I would then have to have my pcm modified? THANK YOU your great video. PS.. My grand daughters jeep will often start right up and run fine for a trip across town...then suddenly quit, I turn the key off and on several times till I get dash lights, then it will go for another 1/2 block or so.
Unfortunately you have to get the pcm reprogrammed so it bypasses the check for the skim module. Just unplugging it won’t fix the issue. The computer has to be changed to remove skim functionality.
Hack. Tape or zip tie your key to the ring behind the plastic on your column Make new keys for the door or you can replace the tumblers if they are bad and have a key for the switch and one for the door. Basically the computer is happy reading the old key and you can use hardware store keys that cost a couple bucks 🤷🏼♂️.

Hi Joe, thank you SO much for this video, I was desperate when I broke the chip scanner loop off when replacing the ignition cylinder, your video showed me the solution! As other commenters noted, it’s very important to disconnect and remove the skim module before installing your reset ECU, or it will activate the skim again. You showed how to do that for the SKIM module at the ignition, so that shouldn’t be a problem. However on a jeep forum someone spoke about a second skim module for FOBs that is supposed to be located in the overhead console; which ALSO has to be removed before you start up the reprogrammed ECU. Have you heard of this, or have any experience with it? All the best from Berlin, Germany!
No need to send out, use j2534 toolbox to put skim to inactive there are videos before reconnecting battery unplug skim, doing so leaves it as inactive otherwise it will reactivate.... Now drive your Jeep
okay, same problem i think. Please bare with me as i'm 76. I get a P1686 code pretty much verifying same problem. No Gauges, run 3 seconds shuts down. Dealerships can't quarantee they can fix it. So are we sending in the ECU or PCU for reprogramming??
Looks like P1686 - Reprogram Smart Key Immobilizer Module (SKIM) key is the code you get in this situation. The PCM needs to be "De-programmed" to remove the SKIM Module function so the computer doesn't look for that key. There is a computer chip in the key that the PCM looks for when it starts. Once the computer is changed to remove that function, you can start your jeep without any issues with the SKIM module. IF the dealership is charging you too much, give the guys at all computer resources a call.
@@JustJeep_It i'm 76 so please bare with me. I removed the ECM from the firewall and will be sending off to all computer resources. Is that the right item to send in. Confused, where is the PCM located? Have I removed the right part to send in. I grew up with carb's, points and condensers so this is new to me and confusing. Thank You.
Okay, here is the latest. I was ABLE to remove the ECM from the firewall and send it to All Computer Resources for a SKIM Disable/Delete. Times have changed they now charge $125 for that service and now you pay the shipping. So for $140 I was good with that. Took about 8 Days total but I have received my ECM back and have reinstalled, physically removing the SKIM Module from under the steering column before hand. YES, I smiled when it fired right up and ran. However, I still have No gauges although I took it for a brief ride and it ran perfect. I ran the test on the instrument cluster, hold odometer button in and turn the key to the run position and they all did their little dance, all the way to the right and then gradually back to the left. I do have a icon that lights up and says Check Gauges. So kind Sir, now what? Thank You, Wayne, remember I'm 76 and somewhat limited as to what I could do. OH, by the way, Murphy's Law struck during the time that the Jeep wasn't running as my truck starter died and we had no vehicles running for several days. Complicated by the fact that we live in the northwoods od WI and had to enlist a ride from a distant neighboe.

I’m wondering if this is my problem. 2000 Jeep tj with 4.0L. For a while, when you turn the ignition on it wouldn’t start it would just crank. Let it sit until the skim light went off and then it would start. One day I’m driving it to work and it just dies, so quietly that I didn’t even realize what happened. And now won’t start. Cranks and cranks, but fuel pump isn’t activating, no spark, and that skim light is on and won’t go away. Also, on the odometer it reads “no bus”. I’ve tried swapping fuses and relays for fuel pump and etc but no luck.

Hi. I am having issue with 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee. I finally just had it towed to dealership. They tell me it is the WCM (wireless control module). Problem #1: they say it will cost upwards of $800. So they said if I can find a used one, they will put it in and program it for $270. Which was great. However, when I thought I had found one, called them Bach and was told, no it has to be a new one. Problem #2: the part is back ordered indefinitely. They can’t get part till January 2021. So what am I supposed to do for the next 10 months? They replaced the ignition switch and new key just about 5 months ago and did not have this problem. Jeep ran for 3-4 months and than stopped again. I have read that a “static discharge” can occur from fob to the WCM? Could they be held responsible since they just replaced the fob? Would be great, but not solving problem since I can’t get new party till next year. So I am wondering if I can bypass the WCM? They of course said no. It then I see your video and others saying it can be done. So please HELP.
Just got this video on my suggestions from RUclips. I don't quite understand, are you saying that at some point the key to my 2004 Grand Cherokee might not work ? And it won't be possible to have it fixed unless I contact this Co. you mentioned?? Sounds outrageous. How does one even know it's the key that's a problem if it doesn't start ? 🤢
My 03 dodge dakota was randomly stalling after 2 seconds of start and then the gauges stopped working. Then it stopped starting completely altogether. So i got it towed to the shop, they changed the BCM and got it started but the key fob stopped working & the gauge cluster is still bad and works when it wants too. They told me I still need a new PCM to fix that. I ordered one online and they flashed it themselves. They asked for my VIN # and odometer reading. I got it in the mail and replaced it. DIDN'T WORK, SAME PROBLEM! Vehicle gauges are still bonkers with odometer reading 'no bus' at times and the vehicle STALLED AFTER 2 SECONDS AGAIN!! I AM SO FRUSTRATED. I've already spent $800 and am moving in a week across out of the state! How can I fix this ASAP? Please help..
Well, if it’s shutting off after 2 seconds and the key is flashing, it sounds like the skim. But not knowing anything other info, tough to say this will fix your Jeep. Good luck.
It went from starting and running a few seconds to just not even starting.. I did a 3 key cycles and ended up draining my battery...just took the battery out to charge it but haven't put it back in yet....Any suggestions and or advice would be greatly appreciated....and if your ever in Southern California you've got subscribers out here
I have 2003 dodge durango. Someone tried to steal my truck. They cut through that little ring on the module. My key hasn't worked since. Starts but dies after a few second. ..Any help would be appreciated.
is it possible to call you and ask a question? What happened with my situation: 135,000 miles, Jeep wrangler 2004, the key and ignition switch are so worn out, I can take the key out while I'm driving and it doesn't do anything, meaning taking the key out affects nothing. So I'm driving down the road at about 50mph, I hit a bump, instantly my sentry key light illuminates, 2 seconds later my engine stops (great feature Chrysler) I was able to get to the shoulder. Tried restarting, crank but no start. None of the gauges are functioning. I took off the sentry key sensor that part of it wraps around the the key insertion spot. Doing that did nothing, same issues. Does this mean I have to have the sentry key sensor erased from the PCM?? sorry to be so long winded, just frustrated here and I refuse to be raped at the dealer! Thank you!

Is the only thing you have to disconnect is the skin meaning that one plug?
I have a question, when you get to the end and your pulling out the part with the 3 plug in part are you take it out completely or are you replacing it with another one? Please I need help
@@jenniferfaye441 what is doing is taking it out and sending it to get the security and skim unit functions deactivated and then putting it back in but you have to disconnect the skin before you put it back in what is going on with your Jeep
Where’s the link for the company I can get a flashed ecm?

I am about to have my SKIM delete done after losing my key. I replaced the barrel and key which will now just be e dead metal key and barrel. One thing as you probably know is that you MUST remove the SKIM reader before reinstalling the SKIM deleted ECU / PCM. If it is left connected it reactivates the SKIM system and you're back to square one. Good video.
You are right. Don’t plug that devil box back in. Remove the module and dump in garbage.
I googled & found you...😊
Lol.are u sure that's an autozone my local auto zones can barley get the correct parts
I just went to my auto zone to do that and they probably thought I was a crackhead they said they don't do that 😑🤣

Was your jeep stalling?

I've been scouring the net for weeks for a decent economic repair for this garbage anti theft system and thanks to you I may have found it. I hope they are still offering this service.
Lucky you, I am in freakin' Mexico... mine died in front of my house, I prefer to tow it it to some shop, I don't want them to look at my codes and come and steal it some day
Thsnk you for the referral. When i bought my Jeep 3 years ago my mechanic used the same people for a refurbished brain and i currently have this issue going on. The lady Jessi was extremely nice and helpful. I didn't call her back on time with the VIN number and they closed but you were a great help and i thank you for the content.

WOW, SO AWESOME I came a cross this by accident so I called them.... Update on price is now $160.00 to have it disabled or $360.00 for my 04 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited.😁😁😁😁😁. THANK YOU......From Idaho
Were you able to fix the issue? Thanks.
That is awesome! Thank you for the kind words!!! Good luck to you and your Jeep!!
Did you fix it?
thank you becausw i just bought a jeep for 250 because of this exact problem. i knew there had to be a way to fix ix! so now for 250 plus cost of removing the skim from the ecm i will have an excellent running vehicle
have you tryed starting it neutral, works for mine when it acts up
I did this and it worked like magic. all you hve to do is Use a lock to avoid vehicle being stolen again in my case, however i connected the SKIM module thinking it'll be no biggie and to lock and unlock doors with the remote.
I’m glad it worked but sorry the skim got you again. Did you have to just send it back to them and do the skim delete again? Let me know how it goes.
SKIM = 👿. Hope this helped you!!
So many issues so little time except if I watch your channel!! thanks
Thank you. Hope I didn’t cause any additional issues. Haha
Now i known why my 2005 dakota start with a regular metal key. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for info. I haven’t had a problem with my 99 Jeep Grand Cherokee yet but it is nice to know what to do if it does happen. 👍
Great to hear! Glad this helped as a back up plan if this does happen to your jeep. Thanks!!!!!
Thanks for the video. My daughter has a used 2002 Jeep Liberty and - with help from friends and the internet - we think the security system is the reason it won't start.
Glad you liked the video!!! Thank you!!
Dude thanks so much that place fixed it fast snd it works flawlessly... thank you so much...
After lots of trial and errors, I found what is step 3, at least at a Jeep Grand Cherokee 3.1 Turbo diesel, 1999 - 2004 range 🥳
Common to both old and new cars;
Unlock the car, get in (on the driver's side.
But no worries; You can spend as much time as you want getting into the car 🤪
On a new car, do the following to reset;
Turn the ignition "ON".
For those of us who have older cars (and no "panic button"), do the following;
Turn the ignition "ON".
If the car takes too long to turn off the lights (i.e. you don't make it through the full cycle in 10 seconds), try pressing "Unlock" as soon as you turn the ignition back on
EDIT; For some models, you will need to turn the ignition to "OFF" after pressing "Un-lock".
Just ordered mine today for my 02 it’s a mud toy tired messing with the security issues
Mine is an 02 as well ,, my key cylinder finally wore out , had a new cylinder put in at a local shop , but I still have to have it towed to Chrysler to have a key cut and programmed to the new cylinder ,, sound familiar ??
THE "ACTUAL" SOLUTION:" On my 2000, the problem exists within the SKIM
immobilizer (module). Remove the steering column cover by removing the single
screw that holds the bottom portion on, then separate the two halves.
Thereafter, unscrew the immobilizer upon removing the wiring connection,
and carefully remove the round portion that goes around the ignition
key tumbler. Carefully separate the two halves of the immobilizer and
you'll see two relatively large solder points. They attach the wire that
runs within and around the key tumbler. If you look closely, possibly
using a magnifying glass, you'll see hairline cracks in the solder. If
so, re-flow the old solder with some new solder and reinstall. Then,
look at the lower half of your steering column cover. See that long boss
that the screw you removed runs in? Take a Dremel and remove half of it
long ways, leaving the half that isn't slamming into your immobilizer
every time you tilt your steering down (Courtesy of Chrysler). Oh, and
if you tilt the steering down, further hold it there, and the car starts
when you turn your key, then this is likely your problem. I ran my car
that way for years before figuring this out... cheers!
Tried this and it did not work. Resoldered the 2 points but same problem when finished.
Love the video
HEY I FOUND THE ACTUAL FIX INSTEAD OF JUST BYPASSING..... I had this same issue. There is a rubber boot in the passenger side door and the power wire, which is a thick brown wire with a white stripe, is probably broken. These models made the ground wire good, but the power wire in the doors is too long, gets caught and snipped. I found a youtube video showing issue, checked mine and fixed in five minute.
@@vincentkuzma I habe herd if this it just sounds crazy that the wire in the pasinger dore would be the issue I just don't get it but allso don't doubt it
Thank you. Hope this works. Had my ECM repaired. Wish I would have asked them to disable the skim module while they were at it.
The wheel tire pressure sensor sends a signal to the skim module , those modules are doing more than just security ..

Thanks

Cool good info thankx I don't even know how thieves steal them with just a screwdriver
Yeah. How in the world do they do that? I guess that was the old days before this skim nonsense.
I have a 2004 Jeep grand Cherokee L the dashlight with the engine icon came on yesterday, what does it mean? Thank you for the key explanation!!
I sent mine off to ACR today wish me luck, a little nervous sending my computer off

So I have to remove the skim module to start the car or just call them to delete the information.
Hey, anyone out there can help me with this. This Grumpy Old Man sure could use some help. My wife isn't too happy, she won't drive the jeep without any gauges. Thank You !
Just did the ACR skim removal and while sitting on side of road and still having crank NO START issue.
Hey i have a 99 Jeep Grand Cherokee i need the information so i can have the program deleted from my pcm
THANK YOU!!!!!! Finally!!!
My 99 Jeep Grand Cherokee is doing the classic- gauges out, key light on, no power to windows, air conditioner, BUT its still running and not shutting off after 5 seconds. You think this would fix my problem? Thanks for the video!
It could be the body control module. Or a simple fuse. Electrical gremlins are tough to find.
Drew did you figure your issue out? That is my EXACT problem I’m having with my 2000 Jeep GC.
@@katherinegarcia7955 no we got rid of the car for other reasons. Sorry I don’t have any helpful tips for you. I think this video was the best route to take.
I have a 2000 Jeep Cherokee Classic. Having the same issue. So could I remove the skim module without reprogramming the computer?
Does doing this stop the remote function of lock/unlock from working? Bought a used Jeep & it came w/1 key. Batteries+ tried programming a key but were unable to. Tech support helped them & couldn't figure it out. Don't know if it's the SKIM or not. If dealership can't program it I'm going this route. Want the door lock/unlock by remote function to work tho. Thanks for the video too!
Inked Buddhist Nope. The remote still operates the door locks. The key fob is separate from the skim module. Good luck!!!
Could just be a weak battery in your jeep ( not the fob) Was my problem.
Also my fob uses 2 2032 batteries stacked on each other... When I got it it had only one 2025
Am about to try i get back to you with results
I have a good feelling
Will work out yes!!!
Carlos Godinez good luck. Let us know how it goes.
How did it go Carlos?
When you had this problem, did the key/immo light stay on the dash when you first turned ignition on? Or did it go off after a few secs like normal?
I'm having the same problem with a 2003 Grand Cherokee Laredo 4.0 is there anyway I can get the number from you
Thank you! Your video was extremely helpful!
Thank you. I’m happy you found it useful.
When it wasn't starting, was it trying to turn over or wad it just doing nothing when you turned the kea ?
I have a random skim issue about once year.. bizarre!
Really wish Jeep didn’t use the skim module. I understand that it works.. but when it doesn’t, it’s not easy to fix. Hope you’re doesn’t get any worse man!
Project Dan H I love your videos
@@JourTheeOnly thanks brother!
Thanks for the video, gonna try to delete the skim module on one of my neons tomorrow
Good luck. Keep me posted
Great video. Thank You. I will try this. Good Job.
Thank you!! I’m glad you found it useful. Good luck to you!
Thanx u very much this video helped me a lot I had the same problem n I did it myself without paying single cent
How did you do it by yourself?? I’m having the same issue.
Taking the computer out was pretty straightforward
Hey how you doing I have the same issue how can I get the rest of the part
Thanks brother keep up the good work
@just jeep it - the Jeep shop
My issue is that I can sometimes start my Jeep and drive for up to 30 mins to an hour maybe longer and it will shut down while driving. I can set and wait minimum 5-10 mins or as long as 30- to an hour before it'll start back. Do you think, in your opinion, that it could be the key module problem? I have noticed this light with the key and circle around it before but I can't remember if it comes on everytime this happens.
PLEASE HELP IF POSSIBLE! THANKS IN ADVANCE AND GOD BLESS!
I had all Computer Resources delete the skim on my ecm and my jeep still won't start any suggestions
Is it doing what it was doing before you send the ECM to them? Maybe their fix didn't work? Does it still shut off after 2 seconds after start up?
Have you found any solution to this issue? I'm having the same problem and am considering using them.
@@JustJeep_It it's still doing the same thing as before and it won't even start at all all Computer Resources told me to send them back the computer and they're sending me another one I'm just waiting for it to come in the mail hopefully that fixes it cuz I really don't want to sell my winter vehicle
Good luck to you. Hope that fixes your jeep problem. Keep us posted
@@daniel71416 what was it doing in the first place? Have you been able to troubleshoot and narrow it down to a malfunction with only the SKIM and PCM?
Did you remove the SKIM before installing the PCM, and leave the SKIM out?
when your jeep shut off on highways .. did just the SKIS light come on?.. or did most dash lights come on including the check gauges light?
Thanks for the video. I have a 2007 jeep commander and I had done the same thing with a different company. My issue is though. all the dash idiot lights are on and gauges dont work. I called them and they said only thing I could do is see if dealer could program a new imobilizer to the pcm. or the immobilizer harness might be able to be jumpered? any ideas
did you get this fixed having the same issue
@@ziasmith5937 i was able to get the car
to run with the new module after the skim delete. I sold the car. The guy I sold it to said he had an appt with the dealer to reprogram it and said they told him $300. I took that off the sale price. Had not talked to him after the sale
@@ziasmith5937 the door bell would sound every about half a minute and all dash lights were on. Ran fine though. Key fob didnt work either. Everything should
have been fixed by the dealer reprogram I would say. Good luck
Hope you can help... I bought a chesp high milage jeep wanging to be be miss fix it... I currently have an issue where the egnition thinks the key is in after I have remove the key. Thank you for the video on this specific problem , I recently contacted (all computer resources) & send my ECM to them. Now is just a waiting game, hopefully it works when I get the ECM back sometime next week
Did yours work and is it still working
What is the name of the company you send your computer to get the skim off of it I'm having the same problem with a 2003 Grand Cherokee I would really appreciate it so I could send in my computer and get it done too
Help. My 3rd gen 2002 ram has the code p1686 but theres no skim thingy under the steering wheel so what do i disconnect?
I have 2004 grand cherokee jeep and was running stopped got gas and wouldn't start, lights n stuff came on, could hear a click , and battery gauge said charged, but bought new battery anyhow and praying, ...nothing, click..thats it...but did notice when inserting key and trying to get it to turn over , there was a light key sign that light up..
Ended up having it towed tonight and calling off work.
Help !!
Let me also add that it did this about a year ago and then out of the blue it started hasn't done it since till now.
Maybe a dumb question, BUT, it seems the SKIM module can remain in place as long as the wiring harness clip is disconnected, correct?
You are correct. As long as it’s not reconnected, no problem at all. I just took mine out... mostly out of spite and revenge! #damjeeps
@@JustJeep_It 'Out of revenge'! LOVE it! Mahalo noho'i ~ ~ ~
@@JustJeep_It thanks for the video, wanted to lno if I unplug the skim key would I still need to get the ECM reprogrammed?
From my understanding along as u have the skim deleted from the pcm it shouldn't effect it. If u get it erased from the memory. U just have to unplug it before u install the new or flashed pcm.
Kids are screamin wife hollerin at ya. 😂 too accurate
Thank you for this info..
I have a 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8
Is this the ONLY way to get my rig to start working again??
Well, if it’s shutting off after 2 seconds and the key is flashing, it sounds like the skim. But not knowing anything other info, tough to say this will fix your Jeep. Good luck.
Yes it's definitely the SKIM....its not even turning over anymore. What do you suggest?
Thank you!
Hello I got a 2000 jeep Cherokee and have the same problem,
So you say you called auto zone and they took care it ????
😆😆😆😆😆😆
Can this be done on a 1998 Dodge Durango??
Can't you just bridge the wire for the circuit the halo completes upon successful key detection and generate an always affirmative response?
I'm not sure.
Can anyone in the comments weigh in on this?
I bypassed my skim and jeep starts but alarm goes off for 5 minutes each time I open the door
