THIS WHOLE VIDEO IS A VIBE GIRL HAHA THIS WAS ME AND EVERY-FUCKING-ONE-ELSE WHEN WE FINISHDED!!! Hearts? Broken. Mind? Dead. Head? Empty. Thoughts? No. Vibes? ALL THE FUCKING VIBES!!!!
this book hits different when you realise that the entire book is the conversation that patroclus had w thetis, "i am made of memories" it was literally just patroclus telling her about his life and his adventures w achilles, i'm going to go before i start crying again
I dont think its like that.. I think patroclus is telling the story as it happens and then at the end thetis comes and she asks to hear the memories..but like the way you think of it is really cool
I loved Circe just as much as Achilles, just for different reasons. I tabbed the hell out of Circe and Achilles. Just love Miller’s writing. Pick up Circe, you won’t be disappointed.
A book hangover. Omg. This is the perfect way to describe what I'm going through right now and I didn't even know it was a thing. I finished reading this book about 2 days ago and I've been trying to get into another book but I just can't because my mind keeps drifting to Achilles and Patroclus and I keep picking up the book to go over my favorite parts. I am dying. Idk what to do with myself. I can't stop thinking about them and how heartbreaking their story was.
1:53 This is mostly true, but there were strong romantic undertones between Achilles and patrocolus in the illiad (for example, Achilles wanting his ashes mixed with patrocolus so they could be together in the afterlife.)
read this book the day after finishing the Iliad so I was crying for most of the book because everything felt so raw. it is one of my favorite books ever, the writing is superb and the characters feel so real. Circe is a bit slower but i loved it as well just in a very different way, it felt more like a philosophical book about the nature of forever, but i had a bit of a problem with it because Circe felt a bit passive in her own life- which makes sense but i find it hard to identify with a passive character.
I finished this book a couple hours ago and looked it up on youtube because I need to share the emotions with someone somehow. It DESTROYED me. Guess I gotta go read the Iliad now...
Yes!!! I took a few classics courses in university and so I knew the story quite well going into it and didn't think it was going to affect me emotionally as much but DAMN was I wrong. It destroyed me. I was full-blown sobbing. The way Madeline Miller was able to create such tactile intimacy between the two of them from the very beginning just blew me away. And the ending with Thetis 😭 I feel like I always go into hyped books not wanting to like them because of their hype but this one just hit different. For sure a favorite book of all time. Also, I bought this book in hardcover in 2011 when it came out and it sat on my shelf for 10 dang years and I feel like such an idiot for waiting so long 😭😂
I just read this too (finally) and the The Silence of the Girls by Pat Barker, which is another retelling from Briseis’ point of view. Definitely different than Song of Achilles, but so, so good.
I read this book years ago and it’s my favorite ever! I absolutely love this one with my soul. I read Circe a couple weeks ago and while it is a good book and I enjoyed a lot, it’s nothing like TSOA! Read this one first!!!
I can't stop crying. I think about the way people live - the wrong way from the very beginning. Everyone wants to love, to have family, life, but our civilization has not yet come to peace anywhere. Each of the characters loved: Patroclus, Achilles, Breseida, Priam and Hector, and even Thetis. so many people want to love. I don't understand why our world is so cruel. And everything repeating again and again .and even now we are lost to each other in the digital world.
I FINISHED THIS YESTERDAY, MY HEART SHATTEREED INTO A BILLION PIECES OH MY GODDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD I'M GENUINELY GOING TO EXPLODE I LOVE YOUR REVIEWS
I have just finished this book for the first time and OH MY GOD I am brokkkeeennnnn😭😭😭😭😭it has easily became my new all time favourite book like u said the way it is written is beautiful. And then when achillies mother thetis finally puts patroclus name on his tomb and said he waits for you omg it brokkkeee meeee 😭😭😭😭I'm definitely going to be picking up circe because Madeleine Millers writing in this book has got me hooked 😭but man this book is gonna stick with me for awhile 😭😭
I knew the story but was blindsided by the after death part. Like I'd think about parts and burst into tears for a couple days after I finished, and I'm not normally that dramatic! And Achilles grief after Patroclus died really took me out as well, lol.
watching you read the end i started crying. yes i have the same feelings about it as you, i read it when it first came out (10 years ago?!) and it still effects me like this. i want to reread it but i'm pretty sure i'd just cry through the whole thing. Circe is good as well but not quite as strongly emotional, maybe that's a good thing. Miller is maybe my favorite currently working writer, but i wish she had more books out, however you know they are taking her a while because she's getting all the history straight, so i'll deal with the wait.
It was fantastic!!! One of the best books I've read all year!! I already knew what happens to the characters but I was still sucked in to the story!!! I will be buying a physical copy to reread over and over!
God, I just finished it last night and my mind was totally blank 😥 I know some Greek mythology from reading Percy Jackson and other searches relating that so I kinda knew what was going to happen. But the way it was written, especially from Patroclus's POV was EVERYTHING and broke my heart all the same.
The narrator for this was SO GOOD!! I listened to it on Scribd. Not sure if you use it or not but it’s so much better than paying all that money for audible. With scribd you can listen and read unlimited amount of audiobooks, ebooks, articles, magazines, podcasts etc. it’s definitely worth the money imo
i finished song of achilles and its my favorite book ever, I'm reading circe currently and so far its just as good and in different ways but I have a feeling theyre both going to be my favorite
one of my all time faves!! definitely relate to your reaction at the end, ah i wish i could read it for the first time again 🥺 seeing so many people read it recently makes me want ro reread it so bad, i think i might just do that
I loved TSOA. I went in as a person who was like... two classes shy of an ancient studies minor, so I was very familiar with the myth. I thought because I knew what happened, it wouldn't affect me as much. I was utterly wrong. It still hurts and it's been over a year lol. Circe keeps the same beautiful writing, but has very different vibes. As much as I love TSOA and I do prefer it, I related hard to Circe and saw much more of myself in her than in either Achilles or Patroclus. Both reads were 5 stars for me :)
Yess really liked The Song of Achilles and Circe. I don’t know if I preferred Circe to The Song of Achilles. I knew what happened in The Song of Achilles, but still really liked it, but I found Circe surprised me more. Just because I wasn’t as familiar with Circe as I was with The Song of Achilles. I really loved both of those books though.
I finished it in like 2 days Ugly sobbing is all i can say Spoiler : Achilles was like my favorite.. But then the second half of the book.. He really was a egoistic little bitch.. It could all have been avoided so easily..if only achilles had gone to war... And i hate agamemnon and thetis.. But thetis did something good at the end and thats why i dont realllllly really hate her...
Hello, I bought the book and I now I have it in front of me and someone told me that I have to ready the iliad first. So I wanted to ask if it’s necessary or that I should read the iliad first. Please be nice and let me know cause I really want to read it the right way.
I'm planning on reading circe this October if I do enjoy it than I might read this book once it's available to be requested there's a long waiting list at the library
All I can say is that this book 📖 and video is amazing please stay safe and enjoy your reading love your channel love your number one Australia fan John
little off topic but have you read Lore Olympus? if u preorder it rn (and maybe if u request it at ur library too), u get a bunch of exclusive art! thought of this when u mentioned u liked greek mythology
She has guides in the back of the book! She also explains a lot within the writing for people that may not be as familiar. There’s no need to be intimidated!
You said so much about how great it would be if you didn't know the end, and that got me thinking... What am I going to do? 😭😅🤣 They've been teaching us this myth at school (I'm from Greece, that's why) since I was eight, there's absolutely no way I'll forget what happened! I've been already spoiled without even knowing! 😭😭😅🤣🤣😭😑😜😂📚
personally i think it’s worth the read regardless just for the relationships and writing style! like as someone who did have a greek myths phase it was fun to kind of have “easter eggs” and to see how she portrayed them versus what i read in childhood, but honestly it’s so good that i would recommend to anyone even if they don’t know about greek myths ☺️
This book! AHHH! I just finished it and I couldn't pick myself and it's like i'm floating in the middle of the ocean. I love Patroclus so much and the end part where asshole (Achilles' son) refuses to put Patroclus name with Achilles' tombstone awakened the hell out of me! I just want to enter the book and punch him. The hell I care if he's only 12! I was legit sobbing halfway through the book and I was like "Oh shoot! Oh shoot Achilles is going to die and Patroclus will be left by himself!" I was so damn wrong! I actually never loved Greek Mythology. I just like it not love it but this book changed my perspective towards Greek Mythology. No book can ever replace The Song of Achilles in my heart😭❤️ (btw sorry for some spoilers)
you took classics that long and they didn’t teach any of the gay shit?!? what a shame! it was wildly known and written in homer’s works and throughout told greek history that achilles and patroclus were lovers. the words they used to describe each other were that of partner and beloved.
THIS WHOLE VIDEO IS A VIBE GIRL HAHA THIS WAS ME AND EVERY-FUCKING-ONE-ELSE WHEN WE FINISHDED!!!

I NEVER THOUGHT ABOUT IT LIKE THAT OH MY GOD
"This and this and this."
Aight my wounds are reopened
@@ghostthewolf2206 it's okay we're all crying here
I dont think its like that.. I think patroclus is telling the story as it happens and then at the end thetis comes and she asks to hear the memories..but like the way you think of it is really cool
That part reminded me of the Night Circus.
You just open my wound again
Underrated character was Odysseus. He was always serving sassy one-liners! I loved this book. It was so beautiful.
I literally just finished this book yesterday and it destroyed me emotionally
Sold! This book moves to the top of the pile! ♥♥
100% agree!! Never have I ever had an experience as I had with the book - The Song of Achilles 😭😭😭
I loved Circe just as much as Achilles, just for different reasons. I tabbed the hell out of Circe and Achilles. Just love Miller’s writing. Pick up Circe, you won’t be disappointed.
I 100% agree!

Achilles: “Mix our ashes and bury us together”
Classicists: “…they were friends”
omg this book broke me… the first book to ever make me cry. it’s such a beautiful book
also i loved circe, there are mentions of patroclus and achilles 🥺
Omggg you have me sold knowing there's mentions of them 🥺
i cried so much when i read this book AND I STILL DO EVERY NOW AND THEN WHEN I REMEMBER. what has hector ever done to me, indeed.
read this book the day after finishing the Iliad so I was crying for most of the book because everything felt so raw. it is one of my favorite books ever, the writing is superb and the characters feel so real.

Same! I finished this a few months ago. Still haven't recovered
I did not know the mythology or the story. I was absolutely DESTROYED at the ending 😭
Yes!!! I took a few classics courses in university and so I knew the story quite well going into it and didn't think it was going to affect me emotionally as much but DAMN was I wrong. me! i bought this bok a year ago and barely read it on monday! randomly picked it up and now i have been sobbing for 2 days
The audio book it's AMAZING!! the narrator did an excelent job! I love every single minute of it.
OMG SONG OF ACHILLES READING VLOG!!! THE ONE WE HAVE ALL BEEN WAITING FOR!!!! I AM SO HYPED TO WATCH THIS!!!
I heard this book has emotionally messed up so many people.
I just finished it literally a minute ago and now i cant sleep.
i just finished it and im speechless
I think nothing is as heartbreaking as little life. :D it was just an amazing book but it didn’t make me cry or very emotional
I just read this too (finally) and the The Silence of the Girls by Pat Barker, which is another retelling from Briseis’ point of view. Definitely different than Song of Achilles, but so, so good.
Ooo that sounds interesting, I'll have to check it out!

I have circe and haven’t started it yet but I have seen this book everywhere and I do want to get it. I’ve heard great things. Great vlog btw
IMO the song of Achilles is much better than Circe.
It was fantastic!!! One of the best books I've read all year!! I already knew what happens to the characters but I was still sucked in to the story!!! I will be buying a physical copy to reread over and over!
was so excited for this video since you mentioned you were reading this, it’s one of my faves! so glad you love it :)

The narrator was amazing on this wonderful book!!!
This was my first book that got me into reading it is soooo beautiful , rereading only the last page makes me so emotional I loved it💗
You should make vlogs often, they're soooo much fun!!!
i finished song of achilles and its my favorite book ever, I'm reading circe currently and so far its just as good and in different ways but I have a feeling theyre both going to be my favorite

seeing so many people read it recently makes me want ro reread it so bad, i think i might just do that
I read both The Song of Achilles and Circe this year and omg they were amazing ❤️😍 5🌟 without question
me: sees thumbnail of a girl crying while holding The Song of Achilles
me, while having war flashbacks: "hey Alexa play another one bites the dust"
Plato believed them to be lovers as well- it's definitely not just a theory but more of a debate!
I loved TSOA. I went in as a person who was like... two classes shy of an ancient studies minor, so I was very familiar with the myth. I thought because I knew what happened, it wouldn't affect me as much. I was utterly wrong. It still hurts and it's been over a year lol.

TSOA getting its own video AS IT SHOULDDD

I never hear people talk about deidamia... She was a victim as well.. The least known one
Yeeea you read the book that's been my fave for 10 years now 💕👏💕
i’m broken bro this book is so good
Hello, I bought the book and I now I have it in front of me and someone told me that I have to ready the iliad first. So I wanted to ask if it’s necessary or that I should read the iliad first. Please be nice and let me know cause I really want to read it the right way.
it’s definitely not, i read it with absolutely no knowledge of mythology and still loved it just the same
I didn’t read it but I do have some greek mythology knowledge. Still loved it, I consumed the book, and my heart was so broken after 😢
We were reading this book at the same time and now you‘re reading Mexican Gothic and so am I?! ARE WE THE SAME PERSON?!
I'm planning on reading circe this October if I do enjoy it than I might read this book once it's available to be requested there's a long waiting list at the library
All I can say is that this book 📖 and video is amazing please stay safe and enjoy your reading love your channel love your number one Australia fan John
I really want to read this, but I actually don't really know the background. Would I be confused or would I want to read The Odyssey first?
little off topic but have you read Lore Olympus? if u preorder it rn (and maybe if u request it at ur library too), u get a bunch of exclusive art! thought of this when u mentioned u liked greek mythology
Read Silence of the Girls and Thousand Ships for more of the same and much more of the mythical retelling.
I plan to read The Song Of Achilles soon and I am scared to say the least because I do not know the story of the Trojan War :')
I need to brush up on my mythology before getting into Madeline Miller's books but I'm so interested in trying them even though they intimidate me
She has guides in the back of the book! She also explains a lot within the writing for people that may not be as familiar. There’s no need to be intimidated!
Go, he waits for you 😢
where did you get that shirt?!? I must have
You said so much about how great it would be if you didn't know the end, and that got me thinking... Before I read SoA, I only knew the basics of Achilles but nothing else and I swear, this book ruined me.
such a beautiful book! i love greek mythology❤❤
I’ve never read anything Greek mythology. Is this a good book for those who aren’t familiar with it?
personally i think it’s worth the read regardless just for the relationships and writing style! like as someone who did have a greek myths phase it was fun to kind of have “easter eggs” and to see how she portrayed them versus what i read in childhood, but honestly it’s so good that i would recommend to anyone even if they don’t know about greek myths ☺️
I’m so ready to be destroyed by this book omg it’s been a long time coming

Such a good book yessss
I’m just trying to getting into books Idk it will be good for beginners or not again I’m broke otherwise this book would be in my shelf
Uhmmm Achilles and protraculas we're well known a lovers in mythology but it was washed from it.
Right or left hand Girl?)
Certainly a sad story but I couldn’t stand the egos and pride! It was a 3⭐️ for me.
Valid! It's so common in Greek mythology that I'm used to it now and love how it adds dramatic tension
I wanna buy it too, how much does it cost?
It’s about 10-11 dollars on Amazon :)
😍❤️
This book messed me up so I never cried to a book and this damn book.
you took classics that long and they didn’t teach any of the gay shit?!? what a shame! it was wildly known and written in homer’s works and throughout told greek history that achilles and patroclus were lovers. the words they used to describe each other were that of partner and beloved.
Too much hype about this book. It was very mediocre. VERY mediocre.
Just because you didn't like it doesn't mean it was mediocre. For me it was fantastic.
@@erikperhs_ It was mediocre TO ME....
