  • In this episode of Minutes With, we sat down with the incredible Waleed Khan, a survivor of the 2014 Peshawar School Massacre. Waleed opens up on the day of the attack where he was shot 8 times by he Taliban at his school in Pakistan. He discusses the aftermath of the attack, his road to recovery and the legacy of the 132 of his classmates that lost their lives on that tragic day.

    To be honest the surgeons deserve all the money in the world that reconstructed his face, it's not even that noticeable.

      I can really relate to him when he said he saw the birds and wished he could fly away.
      I was not in a violent situation.
      But when I got stuck on the top of a mountain,
      there were grasshoppers up there.
      I wished I was one of them within a few seconds of realizing I was in trouble.
      I'll remember that moment for the rest of my life!

      A soothing voice with its sprinkle of pain. I couldn't wrap my head around that happening to me, such a horrific event, I hope all those involved with the crime get what's coming to them.

    As a Pakistani whenever someone uses the slur that "we are terrorists", my heart breaks, what our people have been through and how can we be the terrorists and yet kill our own people. I was 10 when this happened and every member of my family cried. Such a brave story teller, I'm so proud of him and a massive fan since 2014. Wish I can give you a huge hug...❤

    As a Pakistani, I remember when that attack happened, literally everyone was shocked and waiting for more news on how many people had survived. I remember seeing a video about a dad crying saying that his son didn't want to go to school that day, but he had forced his son to go, and he never returned. Every year those students are remembered.
    It really was the most terrible accident that has happened in the history of pakistan.

    This was such a shocking and brutal event in Pakistan's history. I remember when this happened, our school here in India organized a small memorial for the kids.

    I had to pause just to express this: this is the most traumatised situation I’ve ever heard in my life. Those poor children, I cannot believe people were so cruel to put school children in this situation. What a brave man, how on Earth you survived- I’ll never know. But I’m glad you did survive to tell your story. Thank god you’re still alive to tell this story, for yourself...and your friends and fellow students. Absolutely heart breaking 😭 I am so sorry you experienced all of that, none of you deserved that! Nobody deserves that!

      This must be the first school shooting you've ever been aware of. There have been many. Even elementary schools in America, butchery by machete in China, etc. All are equally terrible by default, but considering all things, this was tame in comparison. Either open your eyes, or shut them off again. Both are acceptable nowadays, unfortunately.

    his description of the start of his day that day, we can identify with world over - sitting with your friends at school, making each other laugh by pulling faces at the friend on stage - a normal day - then the most extraordinary trauma happened. its unfathomable. this guy is so calm and buoyant and impressive - an amazing character and attitude - he deserves the best luck for the rest of his life

    12 years old watching your friends get shot and blown apart inches from you while trying to survive with half of your face missing.. what a story. What a survivor, I mean wow. Almost as bad I would assume is the memories and nightmares and visions later on. You can't ever unsee something so to not only have lived through it, but to have those memories and dreams at night for literally the rest of your life must be harrowing. I can't imagine what he saw that day, bless him. The initial situation probably lasted a few minutes at most but the memories are literally eternal for Waleed.
    What a hero.

      Very well said, ignore the neighbors, especially the "Namak Harams", they don't know our biggest mistake was to take them in as refugees and give them a secure shelter in our cities.

    It's mind-blowing just how cruel humans can be to other humans.. to children no less!
    It's incredible to see how well this man has done & how he showed those evil pricks that he's built differently to them.
    The trauma can't have been easy, but he seems to have not let that affect his education & that really is admirable.

    There are so many points to this that deserve highlighting, But the thing that stuck out to me. This is a 12 year old boy, whos currently going through the worst experience imaginable, seeing his friends die in front of him. But still manages to think clearly, focus on his breathing, even to the point of knowing if he passes out people will assume he is dead and might no help. Its incredible. Waleed you are truly an inspiration, and i don't say that often.

    I think this is so traumatising imagine experiencing that major life event and having the energy, sense , courage to still be such a gentle human being. It could of taken him to a very different place. I am still trying to comprehend the utter destruction and desolation. In a school . ❤❤❤❤❤

    I remember this incident so clearly, I’m from India and this unfolded on social media where I had some friends from Pakistan and we were literally in shock as the casualties climbed from 10 kids to 20 to 60 and all the way up to 140 and above..
    it was unreal and then I tuned into a news channel.. it was devastating to watch those school kids being brought out in stretchers ..
    I still get chills just thinking about it

    I was in 10th grade when it happened. I'm in India and when I saw the news I had started crying. For a few weeks I used to be scared thinking that what would happen if something like that happened here. I can't imagine going through that. More power to him. RIP the innocent souls that died.

    I have no words but yes you all are soo brave it is very difficult to lost friends Infront of eyes you know that they all are now in bestest place from world but I know sometime you miss them alot may Allah choose you and others who survived for something good
