  • Update: we laid flooring down in another room as part of our “fish room” series! View the 3rd video with the flooring here: • Fish room remodel part...
    To watch part 1 (carpet removal and damage assessment): • Fish room remodel seri...
    Part 2 (French door installation): • Fish room remodel part...
    We ripped out our nasty carpet (who in the world thinks light colored carpets are ok??) and replaced it with luxury vinyl tile (plank).
    Tools we used:
    Pliers (pulling up staples)
    Supplies for mud
    Belt sander
    Nail gun
    Dremel
    Block
    White rubber mallet
    Spacers
    Pull bar
    Products we used:
    PVC quarter round
    Underlayment
    Flooring: Lifeproof in seasoned wood
    Please comment for any questions! This is obviously not a detailed “how to” and more of an overview. It’s a simple project with a little learning curve.

      So awesome!! I’m so glad it’ll help you out. Our brother in law is not very handy- but he was able to pull it off. That means any one can!

      Oh no- if you want to do it right, it'll take some time! The first corner takes 2-3 hours. But once that's down, the rest is a breeze....as in a couple more hours and you're done. But that's just laying the floor, not including prep!

    What did you use as an underlayment? It looks like your putting your new flooring over something other than your subfloor.

      Most all the tools we already had. The ones specific to doing the floor like the pull bar, spacers, and white rubber mallet we bought. Thanks for watching ✌🏼

    Nice job! I may have missed this because the video cruised quickly…your underlay material…you smoothed out the subfloor with a leveling mud and then look like maybe a 1/4” underlay on top of the subfloor?

    • @the_blue_door_house
      @the_blue_door_house  2 года назад +1

      We laid down 1/4” underlayment on top of the existing subfloor. And yes, we used mud to level and sand the bottom floor. There was one spot in particular that was wonky so it took extra mud and sanding to level it! It’s all dependent on your floors and how anal you are for how level it is!

      When we did our flooring, it was $3/sqft. You must get 10% more flooring to account for waste. Our room was about $1000 in the end with quarter round and underlayment boards.

    Did you cut the baseboard??

    • @the_blue_door_house
      @the_blue_door_house  2 года назад

      No we did not! We did however cut along the bottom of the doors. We had carpet before so we added the quarter round.

  • @waynehughes8616
    @waynehughes8616 3 года назад +2

    FYI, All flooring except for carpet is installed "under" wood base wall to floor trim, NOt butted to face of wall to floor base trim! Yikes.......

    • @the_blue_door_house
      @the_blue_door_house  3 года назад

      We used spacers along all the walls against the trim. That’s not mentioned I don’t think in our video. Since it’s a “floating” floor you have to have that wiggle room and allow for expansion! We used a nail gun to place quarter round above it, secured to the trim. I’m not sure if that clarifies what we did for you- but thanks for watching! ✌🏼

      @@the_blue_door_house I either did not watch until the end of your video or video did not show quarter round installed. But, yes your reply that describes 1/4" gap of newly installed flooring between flooring and wall to floor trim, covered with 1/4 round would solve the problem of removing and reinstalling floor trim to cover flooring to wall gap............which is brilliant!

    • @the_blue_door_house
      @the_blue_door_house  3 года назад

      You’re right! It’s not in the video. In the description I think I put in there this isn’t a perfect how to! I just want people to see how easy it really is and not be so afraid of it. In the tools we used I included spacers (but no indication as to how it’s used!) ✌🏼

    Removes carpet puts vinyl floors then puts a carpet on top. Why?

    • @alex8480
      @alex8480 Год назад +7

      You've never seen a rug on hard flooring? It's easier to clean, more interchangeable with other rugs, and it looks nicer than carpet.
