My experience has been that if a deer is downwind then I'm likely to be busted. I've spent many years bow hunting using scent free products and being extremely disciplined in bathing and washing clothes and spraying down, and I've still only seen a few times it seemed to help if they got downwind. There's many variables to consider, like swirling wind, high humidity, stand elevation, etc. In summary, I've tried it all, and these days I feel like it's a waste of time, money, and stress to keep using so many products. If they get downwind they usually bust me either way, so I no longer try as hard. I still shower with unscented soap and wash hunting garb in unscented detergent, but I don't spray everything every time or stress about it nearly as much because I didn't see enough benefit to justify the extreme measures. Just my experience. Also, I really enjoy your efforts and videos. God bless and be safe.

Smoking my clothes like this is a game changer. Last season I had more deer downwind then ever and I never got busted, even bigger bucks. Smoke is a natural odor killer and it kills bacteria. It works

I always smoke my clothes and have deer coming within 10 yards. They were down wind and I hunt from the ground with a ghost blind. I also have burnt a balsam fir incense log because they smell light a camp fire on windy days. Again buck coming in down wind looking right at me. I’m wearing cabelas seclusion 3d leafy camo suit and as long as I don’t move they walk on by. Except for the buck I shoot. This is during archery. I don’t know how well it works in rifle season because I get my buck in archery. Now there are people burning stuff out where I hunt. It’s not super close to where I hunt but you can still smell the smoke from the fire pit so I believe the deer are used to the smell and don’t spook at all. I figure the native Americans would smoke themselves by standing by a fire so I’d have to say it works. For me absolutely works.

My son and his buddys have been doing this and swear by it, they use pinestraw and wood chips. They leave one at their hunting camp and do right before they go in to hunt. All of them have killed some really nice bucks in the past few years.

I would go several seasons without seeing deer. When I started to hold my hunting clothes over an open wood fire. My success rate improved dramatically. I smoke the clothes store them in a plastic container not in the house but in an out building. I bath with scent blocking soap two weeks before hunting season and all through it. I get dressed in my hunting clothes outside so my hunting clothes including boots are never in the house. Seems to work for me. I hunt in a tree stand with a rifle in Maine.

Smoke Is Free and has been used for generations. I don't mind the smell of wood smoke for hunting 😂 works everytime. Nobody will ever believe this works until they try it!

Sean, I agree with otis6791 for the most part you just need to play the wind there are way too many gimmicks out there for scent control that are a waste of time and money. Like you said I just try to stay as clean as possible and play the wind. I do use an ozone closet to kill odor in my hunting cloths this also helps as I do not have to wash them as often and saves wear and tear on them not having to run them through the washing machine as often as a result my hunting cloths last longer. Unless they get physically dirty, I only run them through the washing machine once at the beginning of hunting season. I would try using ozone on your cloths that still have smoke odor in them that should take care of the smoke odor for you.

I've heard of this but not a believer. I was around a campfire and couldn't get the smell out even after 1 wash. I was definitely getting busted easier. Maybe in some places that have wild fires it would work though

I've heard that this works well if you are in a situation where you are hunting the same area for Multiple days out without returning home. While no scent is probably best, if you are out 4 days in the bush you will probably develop quite the smell. In that situation the smoke smell is better than the alternative. But you really just need a camp fire no need for a fancy device.

I don't even need to watch the video to know that it does! I've done it for years with considerable success. I found I had the best results if I used some twigs, leaves, grass, etc., from the area where I am hunting.

Must depend on your location. One of the older guys in our gang ( rifle hunting though) would light and sit around a campfire while on the deer stand when it was cold ( like -40 cold) it never seemed to bother the deer much. He shot lots of deer like that.
    Cheers!

I always stand around a fire to smoke em. I also use rich pine or fat wood. It gives off thick black soot that sticks to clothes and body and hair. I'm trying something new now, crushing up pine needles, leaves, goat weed, into a bucket of water and letting my clothes soak for a day or so. We will see.

Hey Sean!!! I am a 14 year old and I live up in Canada. I really want to start hunting this winter and am only able to go for rabbits and no one in my family has a firearms license. Do you think the Bear Cruzer G2 would be a good bow for me this winter? Thanks!

Maybe it might work where deer are used to smelling people's fires all the time, but I've been told in no uncertain terms that Sambar and Fallow deer in Australia always get spooked if they smell smoke, and it's best to keep your hunting clothes a few hundred yards away from your campfire (preferably upwind).

I've used pure vanilla with excellent results having does get EXTREMELY close but no bucks period, funny enough lot's of coyotes within 10-15 yards 🤷🏻‍♂️. This year I'm using pure pressed cedar oil spray. I hunt literally behind a grocery store I can see & hear people going in & out of the parking lot. However my other locations are remote & I've used crushed cedar limbs & cedar bedding chips tossed all around my hunting clothes in a tote and killed several mature bucks under 20 yards & I ignore the wind direction usually because I live in the windiest place on earth lol In conclusion red cedar works best for me in my area. Have fun, try different things

It's funny that we have no idea what it's like to be an animal and smell things. It's so foreign to us, even though we can still smell. One time I was walking my dog and saw a rabbit several hundred yards up ahead on the trail. My dog never saw this rabbit but absolutely freaked out when we walked by that spot. It had been ten minutes or so since the rabbit walked by, but my dog knew it was close. That's hard for me to comprehend. It's not like rabbits stink or anything.

Native Americans were known to stand in smoke from their fires before going hunting to hide their human scent. As we all know, they were pretty good at harvesting deer.
