I’m new to hunting and I may be way off here, but wanted to share a trick I learned from a great hunter around where I live, he puts his clothes & sometimes wears them around a fire pit the night before (camping or at home), and also, he leaves his clothes outside so they pick up the outdoor scent before he wears them to hunt the next day. He also told me to take local tree leaves and even dirt and put it in the plastic bag or the container I store my clothes in. It masks other artificial orders away and gives the clothes a natural one that the deer is used to smelling around those woods. Anyone tried this before? If so, does it really work? What other tips can u help me with please? Thanks

  • @GaryStutz

Because you guys are sharing your tricks, I will share with you a trick that works good in any part of the country at any time of the year and best of all it will not cost you anything. Have you ever noticed that after you first put in a food plot, there's nothing growing yet and the plot is full of deer tracks! Deer a very curious animals, and fresh dirt can mean many things to a deer, (new food source, scrape, their home was changed in some way). Here is the trick; Carry a 3 prong scratcher in your pack, (like the one used for gardening); where you want a deer to stop, freshly scratch up a circle of dirt about 3 feet in diameter and around inch deep, the more moist the soil the better, every deer that can smell the fresh dirt will come and check it out; you need to do this every time that you go to your stand and only takes seconds to accomplish. This works especially well during the Rut.

I follow all of John Everhart's scent control And Still play the wind! I believe scentloc and taking showers in scent free soap is "insurance" just in case the wind swirls or he gets down wind.

  • @brettb4452

Take a shower before hunting using scent away soap, keep clean clothes stored in a ozone locker, you dont need to wash them as often. Sometimes i spray down with scent away stuff. Hunt the wind. Thats all you need. Ask me how i know. People way over think this every year.

I pressure can green hickory nuts in pint jars and then put the juice in a spray bottle. Works good and the unopened ones last for years!! Down here in the south the juice will sour after a few days in the heat, so I just rinse my bottle and open another jar!

  • @jameswhite5927

This would work great if you had walnut trees in your hunting area but I think it would spook deer if you don't. I like the the things in your area better.

This is fun to watch! I have done so many crazy things over the years to try and win over the nose of a deer. God made their noses too good 😂 All those years I was in a tree and bottom line is...if your scent makes it to their nose, it's over. Now I hunt on the ground with one of my kids at a time, play the wind as best I can and enjoy the hunt!!! I no longer worry myself with all the time and hocus pocus etc, etc. I wear clothes more than once, may or may not take a shower and enjoy life 😅 I get bucks every year and my kids are as well!!! Got my biggest bodied deer last season! I enjoy it so much more now without all the work and time to get ready!!! Play the wind best you can and enjoy!!! I do wear rubber boots that I keep in a bag so deer won't smell my trail, never touch the bottom and put on when leaving the vehicle! Works great! Our bodies are always producing scent into the air, including our breath so... Kind of like not spreading the coronavirus, good luck 😂 Have a great season and always read Gods word, the BIBLE!!!

  • @chr103yod

I completely disregard scent control and just hunt the wind and plan my access. That’s worked better than any scent control product I've used.

I wonder if Fred bear used walnuts ???? Wash your clothes with baking soda store in containers you will be fine. Everyone has thier own thing.

  • @mr.rogers5586

Back in the 80s we used to take our clothes and put it in a bag of cedar chips. No we use ozonic‘s. Last year in Missouri I didn’t have a deer blow at me the whole week we were there.

Most detergents out there (hunting ones too) are overly measured for a load of clothing…which leads to detergent being left behind and not washed out…leaving the smell he says behind. All to sell more product. One, Sport Wash by Atsko, doesn’t and washes out clean (no brightener too). However, I’ve found 7th Generation detergent (available at most grocery stores)…is basically the same thing….no artificial chemicals…no brightener and no scent or dyes…all natural detergent. It’s about $12 for over a gallon and about one ounce is all you need for a xtra large load of laundry. A jug will last NUMEROUS SEASONS. Gets blood out well too.

100% anything natural and from the lands you hunt at is very affective! I like this. Thanks man! 👍🏼

I'm an old Tradbow guy, who's got his scent control down tight for the most part. Including NEVER drive a vehicle, with your scent free boots. But I have to try this, as twice last season, I only needed one more step from a bruiser, I was keying in on, to nope!!! He is a bruiser for a reason and sensed something not right with his timber. New sub. From the 641... Always thumbs up!

  • @dpackman

Thanks for the tip brother. Pine needles crushed up with water Makes good cover sent also. And what I found that works better than anything for me, is pee or tarsal gland straight from a local deer

  • @MrByoung3348

Get recommendation. I can’t wait to try this. Those black walnuts are all over my yard. They smell so strong. Thanks

  • @solidrockofjesuschristmini2423

I got to say thats sounds like a great thing, will be doing this come rifle season, i can see this working, better than any of the scent companies, its definitely a game changer if it keeps your scent natural to deer
