Because you guys are sharing your tricks, I will share with you a trick that works good in any part of the country at any time of the year and best of all it will not cost you anything. Have you ever noticed that after you first put in a food plot, there's nothing growing yet and the plot is full of deer tracks! Deer a very curious animals, and fresh dirt can mean many things to a deer, (new food source, scrape, their home was changed in some way). Here is the trick; Carry a 3 prong scratcher in your pack, (like the one used for gardening); where you want a deer to stop, freshly scratch up a circle of dirt about 3 feet in diameter and around inch deep, the more moist the soil the better, every deer that can smell the fresh dirt will come and check it out; you need to do this every time that you go to your stand and only takes seconds to accomplish. This works especially well during the Rut.
Elk will come in on fresh dirt as well. Building in the mountains of Colorado for years we would always find elk tracks all over the piles of dirt we excavated.
I'm an old Tradbow guy, who's got his scent control down tight for the most part. Including NEVER drive a vehicle, with your scent free boots. But I have to try this, as twice last season, I only needed one more step from a bruiser, I was keying in on, to nope!!! He is a bruiser for a reason and sensed something not right with his timber. New sub. From the 641... Always thumbs up!
Ive done this for years.Ive even put walnut concoction in shallow tub to set my rubber boots in while not in use. Works great here in Indiana. Walnuts have ALOT of aroma that really is pretty strong for you guys in non walnut parts of the country. Red cedar branches ground up, works well also especially if you heat it to a boiling then let cool. Nice video...I'll keep watching you.

I made some for this season after watching this video. Much appreciated. I ordered some sodium benzoate (preservative) online and added it to my batch. I’ve had a spray bottle sitting outside for about a week now and it’s fine. Plus a couple gallons in the fridge. All the commercial sprays have preservatives, so I thought I’d give it a try. Seems to be working. I hunt on the ground, and had one enter my lane about 10y from me on his way to a little bait I had out at 20y. Never spooked. He ate for about 15 minutes then walked off into the woods. Not the one I was looking for, but I felt like it was a good test run for the cover scent with the added preservatives. I’ll make this every year now. Thanks again!
YES!!! I do this by putting wood shavings and walnuts it the totes I store my gear in. Works great for me in Maryland, West Virginia and Ohio. Ps. Deer don’t mind if your clothes are stained
I pressure can green hickory nuts in pint jars and then put the juice in a spray bottle. Works good and the unopened ones last for years!! Down here in the south the juice will sour after a few days in the heat, so I just rinse my bottle and open another jar!
Most detergents out there (hunting ones too) are overly measured for a load of clothing…which leads to detergent being left behind and not washed out…leaving the smell he says behind. All to sell more product. One, Sport Wash by Atsko, doesn’t and washes out clean (no brightener too). However, I’ve found 7th Generation detergent (available at most grocery stores)…is basically the same thing….no artificial chemicals…no brightener and no scent or dyes…all natural detergent. It’s about $12 for over a gallon and about one ounce is all you need for a xtra large load of laundry. A jug will last NUMEROUS SEASONS. Gets blood out well too.
I’ve been doing the same exact thing for 20 plus years! It does work! Many boone and crockett bucks to prove it! I even put walnuts in bottoms of my clothes scent storage totes! My father was an old trapper and deer hunter since the 1970’s and often died his traps in walnut! I’m like you kind of a scent control fanatic and have tried everything myself but pairing the walnuts with ozonics in my opinion works every time! Happy hunting to ya
I think this is an excellent tip. One thing I might add is I use distilled water because it is its purest form. There is additives such as fluoride and chlorine in some of your city Waters out of the spicket. This is an excellent idea with the walnuts thank you so much
Where I hunt in GA we have mostly pines, I use pine sap and dirt, rub it on my cloths, works real well. On my way to the stand I have to cross my horse pasture, so I'll step in fresh manure to cover my scent trail to my stand. I've got city boys that hunt around me spending good money on sprays, mine cost nothing but the time it takes to rub it on.
@@ryanguffy4739 use gloves, it doesn't take a lot and it last for a day or two. I usually put everything in a plastic bag or a tote when I come in from the stand. @ryanguffy4739 can also boil fresh pine needles, bark and sap, make a soak or spray. Can also do this with acorns when hunting around oaks early season
I started taking a shower and washing my clothes with unsented soap or any kind. It doesn't have to be a deer hunting soap. I also hang my clothes outside and try not to get dressed in the house. I noticed a huge difference in deer sightings. I'm going to try making an acorn spray. I bet that will be a big improvement. Thanks for the idea, John! Anything we can do to tip the odds in our favor is a blessing!

I do wear rubber boots that I keep in a bag so deer won't smell my trail, never touch the bottom and put on when leaving the vehicle! Works great! Our bodies are always producing scent into the air, including our breath so... Kind of like not spreading the coronavirus, good luck 😂 Have a great season and always read Gods word, the BIBLE!!!
Heads up folks. This sounds like a great idea; however, be very careful if you have a tree nut allergy. Years ago I was at work. I found a bag of crushed pecan shells we used to sand blast with. It was a little moist so I poured the bag out on a board and spread it out. There was dust in the shells and apparently I inhaled some and sent me into anaphylactic shock. Not full blown but bad enough to make my throat swell, eyes and nose run etc etc. So, once again, a great idea but for those of you with tree nut allergies I would think very long and hard about spraying my clothing or wearing clothing that had be drenched in tree nut dripping. Great video and love your passion and of course the buck is a buck of a lifetime!
My brother you are killing it the information is Rock you know the truth when you hear it I'm going to watch all your videos bro and I'm a John eberhart fan when it comes to send control I do serious scent Lok but I'm doing all your stuff on top
I collect acorns and boil them for awhile then run the water through a filter into a spray bottle and would spray my outerwear with it before I headed out to my deer stand. All my base layers, socks, and face mask are stored in an airtight bin with a few small boxes of baking soda that’s also been washed out with water and baking soda until the “plastic smell” has been removed. 100% success.
i've been using ozonics for 6 yrs now and have never witnessed an animal spooked by my scent-also live where we have a lot or bear which can smell much better than deer and had them come in dead down wind without smelling me,although i do use knee high rubber boots walking in to cover scent trail
Dude, that's interesting. I'm 61, and I've been deer hunting since age 12. I'm a strictly archery deer hunter. I've tested EVERY scent control product on earth. U Are correct, ALL so-called scent free detergents are a joke. If I can smell it, it's a joke. I've washed my clothing in pure Baking soda and left my bow outside for days, but A N Y deer downwind ALWAYS smells me. Scent eliminating companies are full of Shit. Thanks for Ur info. Have 2 black walnuts in my yRd. Will try it.
I'm your age, hunted, ran hounds, trapped. Nothing works like being down wind. I like baking soda. I use arm and hammer scent free detergent. In the white bottle. Walnuts are used by trappers to hide smells of steel and humans.
finally someone else is using walnuts im 62 and ive been boiling them when there black and using that good way to kill that orange to,started doin that since my 20s told people and they laughed but i got the last laugh, great video just subscribed thank you
Yes hunting the wind is number one thing. If you only have cutover land to hunt and the deer bed is everywhere around you and the deer can come from anywhere, you have to do something besides hunting the wind.
This is the only correct answer. The only two things that have been proven to work are Ozone generators and the Zero trace ionization fans. There is no debating this because it’s a simple proven fact. They still don’t 100% full stop eliminate human sent. Use the wind or risk getting blown out the tree.
I’m new to hunting and I may be way off here, but wanted to share a trick I learned from a great hunter around where I live, he puts his clothes & sometimes wears them around a fire pit the night before (camping or at home), and also, he leaves his clothes outside so they pick up the outdoor scent before he wears them to hunt the next day. He also told me to take local tree leaves and even dirt and put it in the plastic bag or the container I store my clothes in. It masks other artificial orders away and gives the clothes a natural one that the deer is used to smelling around those woods. Anyone tried this before? If so, does it really work? What other tips can u help me with please? Thanks
I tried putting dirt and pine needles and some pine sap in my container that I keep my hunting clothes in it works but if you don’t won’t any dirt on your clothes you can get fresh earth scent wafers I put those in with my clothes once I wash them and dry them I then put the wafers in my container and close it up it works I have been hunting deer for 35 years and I do a lot of ground hunting for deer and have had deer with in 5 yards and never smell me I usually start preparing by not using any deodorant that has a scent and taking baths with scent killer soap about a month before the season starts and no cologne until after hunting season.
Tell you another trick, when your out at your property, lease or hunting club, after you work days, leave your sweat clothes in the woods about 50 yards from your stand location. They get used to smelling you all the time in the woods and won't spook when they smell you during hunting season.
@@michaelcope2329 that’s a great tip. I’ll go for a run in the same tshirt for a few days, get it very stinky and drop it at the place I hunt. 😉 I can’t wait to try this. Thanks bud! 👍
@@basskicking4532 An old guy we used to hunt with in N Louisiana up around Homer, LA taught me that and it works, you got put it out early and leave it, every once in a while about 3 months or so go hang another one and take the other down and bring it out of the woods. They eventually get used to your smell as its there all the time year around but its not you, its your smelly shirt
This would work great if you had walnut trees in your hunting area but I think it would spook deer if you don't. I like the the things in your area better.
Doesn’t have to be walnuts. Pick anything in your woods and you can do the same. Crushed acorns, pine cones or needles, cedar branches, persimmons… hell even a little dirt. Make you some slightly muddy water. Literally anything could work. You’re just wanting everything you’re wearing to smell like something in nature.
Im 1 minute in and I bet right now its something from nature. Like pine branches or some kind of bush or plant. I use dried pine branches for up north Moose Hunting
Wash my hunting gear scent detergent free then Air dry them two or three weeks prior to hunt. Once they are dry I raked up old leaves and cut pine balsam sapling limbs layered them in a big tote store it outside. Come November it worked. I used spray once i got out of the truck to walk the path . Im going to start collecting the acorns great idea... and free!
I've got some soaking now, but it's awful dark . I got some on my hand and it won't come off. I'll try it with a spray bottle on the mist side first lol
Thank you for sharing what works. Have you ever tested, or used Chlorophyll tablets as a Dietary Supplement? I know that you, along with myself consider your diet to be very important aspect of scent control. When you sweat, the Chlorophyll is present which kills bacteria, reducing odor. Chlorophyll tablet is not the one answer to odor control, but is another 4% in the effort to total control our scent. I'm looking forward to your reply.
I have been using natural cedarwood oils and pinewood oils from the vitamin store. Works like magic. Use it on my beard, clothes, shoes, and skin. Especially my neck and face.
Are you using black walnut just because it’s what’s readily available there or is it something specific to that tree that is best? In South Georgia I can get plenty of hickory and pecans but not sure about black walnuts.
I live in South East Arkansas and I will have to check but I don’t think we have any black walnut trees. This area is the pine tree capital we have some hardwood but mainly in the residential areas . Is there something else you could use in this area like pine tree needles and pine cones or use the pine sap on my clothes I have done that but you can’t use a lot except on cut trees could you take some pine sap and pine cones and let it sit in water? Unless you can think of anything else to use of done the vanilla scent home made cover scent so if you can think of anything let me know. I do everything else that you talk about and use scent wafers along with spraying my clothes when before I get in my truck and once I get out of my truck I have a bad back so it’s hard to change into hunting clothes when I arrive at my hunting location like I did in my youth I will check out other videos. Good video not to many people talk about scent control except hunting the wind the Evercalm deer bed scent works good but don’t put on your clothes are you will have flies all around you
Hunter's detergent, dryer with descenting sheets, hang dry outside overnight then in bin with the floor lined with debris from the woods I hunt (dirt, branches, twigs, acorns, barks, pine cones, etc...). I've pulled my hunting clothes a year after putting them in there and they still smell like the woods. I'll only re-wash them during the season "if" I've hunted on a particularly hot day and sweated in my gear or after I've dragged something out of the woods. $10 a year and it's never failed me. I've had deer literally brush up against me while I was sitting on a stump in the dark.
So how long will this soultion stay usable before it goes bad without some sort of preservative in it? Ive used Walnuts for years on my boots and it works awesome.
Guys use distilled water and paint strainers work best!!! Distilled water doesn't evaporate or rott , make sure you're using what's in the area you hunt!!!!
how will it work if your hunting in an area where there is no black walnut trees? I think if you do the same but with trees in your hunting area. I hunt where there is a lot of pines so I use pine needles break them up and put them in water treated with hydrogen provide and baking soda. wait until one week before season throw in the pine needles and shake. It seams to work very well for me.
Awesome And will the walnut spray work where there’s no walnuts, yes I have tried it before in areas where there’s no walnut trees in that area. And It worked really well. Bit it seems like the Pineneedles work really well for you. Great idea.
If you leave it out and just keep it out of the sun. It will usually stay good for at least a couple weeks if it doesn’t get too hot. But if you do keep it refrigerated, it will last longer.
Just found your channel. What part of Ohio are you from? I’m an Ohio native. SE Ohio. Sounds like a great idea, but I’m not sure I could use it. Last summer I cut up part of a black walnut tree with a chain saw after a storm. Some of the saw dust went down in my boots and caused severe blisters, which ruptured on the second day, and took a couple weeks to heal. Did a little research and found that walnut is actually toxic. Could just be that I’m allergic to it, who knows. Best of luck this season. ✌🏻
You said before you hunt drench your outer layers and have it dripping off of your boots. If you are hunting in the winter is it advisable to have your outer layers soaked wet? Very interesting. I subscribed.
I'm betting he doesn't and you shouldn't either. I don't know where you hunt but I know in most of the country late season that would be a recipe for a miserable sit
Probably not drench your clothes soaking wet, but mostly spray on a good layer….if it’s really cold I will spray my clothes the night before and let them hang outside to dry.
Back in the 80s we used to take our clothes and put it in a bag of cedar chips. No we use ozonic‘s. Last year in Missouri I didn’t have a deer blow at me the whole week we were there.
I’ve tried this in a few different states. Where there’s no black walnuts. And it still works. It will not spook them. I don’t know what it is about the smell, but they do not mind it. Best cover up Scent I ever used.
Awesome video! I recently tried that with distilled water and freshly picked walnuts, however after three days the water has very little walnut scent to it. No where near as strong as a walnut. Is that normal? Thanks.
It won’t be quite as strong. But you should still smell it really well. Almost has like a sweeter smell. Sometimes, if it’s not as strong as I like, I’ll smash down the walnuts, a little bit to get a little extra Scent. I hope this helps. Good luck this season.
Pine trees. The sap sticks to you. When fat wood or rich pine is burned it gives off a black soot that smells and sticks to clothes, hair, and skin. Smelling like pine sap may also trick the buck into thinking theres a rub...??
Wow I never thought of using walnut juice. What’s your opinion on Scentlok? I’ve had a lot of success with it the past 4 seasons and have killed 7.5 year old public land bucks in back to back years in Pennsylvania
I know this is a probably a stupid question but I'm gonna ask anyway. I usually get berry blend skoal while I hunt. I hunt from tree stand and I have a giant 170-180 10pt coming to my mineral as we speak. Do you think that I can put some berry blend skoal on the ground so he will get use to smelling the skoal so when bow season opens, I can actually chew? Or do you prefer to not chew at all?
Berry blend never tried it before but hey, it may not bother them. as long as it’s not too strong of a odor. I tried that type of Apple chew. Years ago to cover up my breath. It seemed to work. It never bothered them. But it didn’t have much of an odor.
Maybe it’s worth a try. If it’s something that’s native in the area. And it has a good strong smell. It may work. If you try it, let me know. Good luck.
Do you keep the concoction in bottles in the refridgerator....or how do you store it till hunting season? I just got a bucket full of black walnuts and about to make it. Or do you store the walnuts in the fridge till its closer to season then make concoction?
After you make it, you can put it in some kind of milk jug or whatever you may have available. And freeze it. And then get out what you need when hunting season comes in. Good luck this year.
Yes, and it’s usually good for a couple weeks as long as it’s kept cool. and if you make a bunch like I do when they all start dropping. Put it in jugs and freeze it. Then take it out throughout the season when you need it.
Question, BlackWalnuts after the shell rottens off nut turns black. Having the walnuts in water for couple of days will turn the water jet black. After doing the cheese cloth thing leaves the water just black. Spraying the black water on clothing will it die the clothing black?. Is there something I’m missing in this process?. Explain.
Yes, it will be a dark brown. If the walnuts are truly green when you put them in. And it will stain your clothes a little bit. But with camouflage I really can’t tell much of a difference. Good luck.

People might think I’m crazy, but it works really really well. Good luck this season my friend.
I'm your age, hunted, ran hounds, trapped. Nothing works like being down wind. I like baking soda. I use arm and hammer scent free detergent. In the white bottle.
Walnuts are used by trappers to hide smells of steel and humans.
The same will work with just about any natural vegetation in your hunting area, dirt being one of the best because of foliage decomposition.
finally someone else is using walnuts im 62 and ive been boiling them when there black and using that good way to kill that orange to,started doin that since my 20s told people and they laughed but i got the last laugh, great video just subscribed thank you
Thank u. Black walnut is the best cover-up Scent I’ve ever used.
I completely disregard scent control and just hunt the wind and plan my access. That’s worked better than any scent control product I've used.
@@michaelcope2329 love it! Thanks man! 👊🏼
God bless YOU for your kindheartedness!
We've been doing this for years my grandfather taut this to me at a young age and it works great great vidio
Thanks
This would work great if you had walnut trees in your hunting area but I think it would spook deer if you don't. I like the the things in your area better.
I agree. Any new scent that they are not accustomed too seems to spook them.
I've always wanted to do it, now I will thank you sir!
Go for it!
It does work great. I do the same thing with cedars. Thanks for that great information.
Thanks
Love your videos, keep the videos coming. Love all these tips and tricks.
Wash my clothes with dirt water from the area where I'm hunting also helps taking out the UVs.
Im 1 minute in and I bet right now its something from nature.
Like pine branches or some kind of bush or plant.
I use dried pine branches for up north Moose Hunting
This works for sure!!! I had him bedding right under me for hours and they didn't have a clue I was around.
Im going to start collecting the acorns great idea... and free!
Thanks
I did The leaf things also. Couldn't stay stationary on the boesland as the bug's crawling in. Leaves were on my clothes wasn't much fu
No bugs in November in Minnesota especially after the frost @@stevegermain1222
I’m definitely gonna try this out thanks 😊
I've got some soaking now, but it's awful dark . I got some on my hand and it won't come off. I'll try it with a spray bottle on the mist side first lol
I’ve been doing this for years. I even dye my camo in walnut stain. It is the best. I always wondered if others do this.
You can’t beat it. It works really well.
I never have tried it. I have heard people use it for a detox. That makes sense. Thanks for the information. All about trying something new.
I have been using natural cedarwood oils and pinewood oils from the vitamin store. Works like magic. Use it on my beard, clothes, shoes, and skin. Especially my neck and face.
Might have to try that
Awesome! I'm going to try it for sure!!!
Great tip I’m trying it next year
Are you using black walnut just because it’s what’s readily available there or is it something specific to that tree that is best?
Good video not to many people talk about scent control except hunting the wind the Evercalm deer bed scent works good but don’t put on your clothes are you will have flies all around you
I am from Arkansas too. Use Green Pine Cones. Chop them up. Then Soak.
Do the same but with cedar branches I just put it in hot water shake it up real good let it set a day or so strain it into a spray bottle
Great idea!
I use the green walnut or it's leaves for mosquito repellent also grab a green one rub it on your hand then rub it on where you need it it works
Should you dilute the walnut juice with water when you put it in a spray bottle. The scent alone is very strong it might be better to tune it down
No, do not water it down. It will not spoke the Deer. It works better than anything I’ve ever tried.
I thought about doing this with coffee. But im not sure if it will spook instead of conceal. The indians used to use pine needles and wood smoke.
If it works I could care less if it stains my clothes lol, They've seen worse than walnut spray, Thanks for the top, Subscribed
Thanks
how will it work if your hunting in an area where there is no black walnut trees? I think if you do the same but with trees in your hunting area. I hunt where there is a lot of pines so I use pine needles break them up and put them in water treated with hydrogen provide and baking soda. wait until one week before season throw in the pine needles and shake. It seams to work very well for me.
Awesome And will the walnut spray work where there’s no walnuts, yes I have tried it before in areas where there’s no walnut trees in that area. And It worked really well. Bit it seems like the Pineneedles work really well for you. Great idea.
Trappers do this with traps. Boil traps in walnut hulls. Not a bad idea though. Glad you thought of it.
I might try this with pecans I’m down south and that’s what we have readily available
If we had pecans my wife would be harvesting them for a snack! Interested to see if it works!
This is awesome if you have black walnut trees. Lol. If your not allergic with cedar trees its needles works as well. And plentiful everywhere.
Ill bet acorns will work as well. Natural is the best. I wander if i can get the liquid out of acorns
Once you have the juice from the walnuts, how are you storing it?
You keep it refrigerated or is it fine left out?
Thanks for the tip by the way!
If you leave it out and just keep it out of the sun. It will usually stay good for at least a couple weeks if it doesn’t get too hot. But if you do keep it refrigerated, it will last longer.
If I freeze the walnut water would it last for a couple months to use throughout the entire season?
Just found your channel. What part of Ohio are you from? I’m an Ohio native. SE Ohio. Sounds like a great idea, but I’m not sure I could use it. Last summer I cut up part of a black walnut tree with a chain saw after a storm. Some of the saw dust went down in my boots and caused severe blisters, which ruptured on the second day, and took a couple weeks to heal. Did a little research and found that walnut is actually toxic. Could just be that I’m allergic to it, who knows. Best of luck this season. ✌🏻
Thank you for sharing God Bless u as well
You said before you hunt drench your outer layers and have it dripping off of your boots. If you are hunting in the winter is it advisable to have your outer layers soaked wet? Very interesting. I subscribed.
Am I understanding it correctly that you soak your clothes even in winter?
I'm betting he doesn't and you shouldn't either. I don't know where you hunt but I know in most of the country late season that would be a recipe for a miserable sit
Probably not drench your clothes soaking wet, but mostly spray on a good layer….if it’s really cold I will spray my clothes the night before and let them hang outside to dry.
@@BenDownTooLong I hunt in Michigan and I was a little befuddled when he said that. He replied and I understand what he means.
Back in the 80s we used to take our clothes and put it in a bag of cedar chips. No we use ozonic‘s. Last year in Missouri I didn’t have a deer blow at me the whole week we were there.
I have a lot of pecan trees and no black walnut. I’m going to try pecans.
Having trouble finding black walnuts will any kind of walnut work?
I don’t have walnut trees in my area but I do have pecan trees I was wondering if they would work the same as walnut for a spray.
This is something that is common in your area, but not in mine. The deer are used to this odor. Don’t know if it would work in mine.
I’ve tried this in a few different states. Where there’s no black walnuts. And it still works. It will not spook them. I don’t know what it is about the smell, but they do not mind it. Best cover up Scent I ever used.
Sounds like a good cover scent. But when you’re walking two miles in Ga heat, don’t think it’s going cover that lol.
Nothing will stop that funk
What do you do for your breath?
Asking for a friend 😮.
Wind/thermals is everything.
I just posted a RUclips video on that actually. Check it out. Thanks.
Rubbing down with ceader limbs has the same effect if they are in your area
you can never get rid of all your scent. if anything this would be an attractant
Can u use the walnuts more than once in this process??
With those arms you should have no problem shaking those trees 🔥
😂
Good video. Thanks for sharing
Wondering if Burr Oak nuts would work the same, here in TX. Deer love them.
How do you feel about using vanilla as a cover scent
No mold or bacteria from the spray?
Pine trees. The sap sticks to you. When fat wood or rich pine is burned it gives off a black soot that smells and sticks to clothes, hair, and skin. Smelling like pine sap may also trick the buck into thinking theres a rub...??
I use apples...same method. Store clothing in tote w apples...spray boots w apple spray.
How long does the extra bottles stay good? Or does it go bad?
what a lot of work, ijust use the wind and thermels to hunt
Wow I never thought of using walnut juice. What’s your opinion on Scentlok? I’ve had a lot of success with it the past 4 seasons and have killed 7.5 year old public land bucks in back to back years in Pennsylvania
Does it matter what he thinks. The science says scentlok works. Your experience tells you scentlok works. I think you know what you need to know.
If you have a buck that big coming in, I would not chew at all. I would take a chance of spooking him
Wouldn't I meant ( I hate spellcheck)
i would add to only use well water, city water has chemicals added.
Thanks brother
Ive done this with acorns amd pineneedles for years
I like the idea, but here in Arizona, we have no walnut trees. Do you think juniper berries would have the same effect?
Maybe it’s worth a try. If it’s something that’s native in the area. And it has a good strong smell. It may work. If you try it, let me know. Good luck.
Washing your clothes in pine sol works to been doing this for 10 years never got winded hang them outside for a few days also
Do you keep the concoction in bottles in the refridgerator....or how do you store it till hunting season? I just got a bucket full of black walnuts and about to make it. Or do you store the walnuts in the fridge till its closer to season then make concoction?
After you make it, you can put it in some kind of milk jug or whatever you may have available. And freeze it. And then get out what you need when hunting season comes in. Good luck this year.
@@PatrickHoover I left in the buckets longer than expected (5 days)....still think its good or did it lose its potency? It made about 3 gallons.
How long is each batch good for? Guessing you use a few bottles each season from one batch, then the following year make another?
Yes, and it’s usually good for a couple weeks as long as it’s kept cool. and if you make a bunch like I do when they all start dropping. Put it in jugs and freeze it. Then take it out throughout the season when you need it.
What you just described is walnut fermentation.
Have you ever tried acorns? I do not see a lot of walnuts in my area in Michigan.
I never have. But I know they love eating acorns.
Good luck.
