Initial Thoughts On Fishing From A PADDLE BOARD!

- I got a fishing paddle board! This is part three of my three-video series where I am showcasing this rig and discussing my initial thoughts.
Testing My New Fishing Paddle Board: • Testing My New Fishing...
Bass Fishing On A PADDLE BOARD: • Bass Fishing On A PADD...
In this final video of the mini-series, I wrap up my initial thoughts and perspectives on fishing from a SUP or paddle board. Overall, I obviously love fishing from this Glide board however I can't say it is for everyone. They are very portable, light, and comfortable so I think it is a dynamite rig for quick fishing trips in calm conditions. Where I don't think this is the best platform is when you either want a lot of fishing gear or you want to fish in rougher conditions. While this board has a 500lb capacity and could easily haul a lot of gear, I feel that somewhat defeats the purpose and eliminates a lot of the best benefits. So, to wrap it all up, I will be fishing on this board a lot in the future. I will personally use it with limited gear on more minimalist fishing trips.
How about those bass on ultralight? Hard to beat!

I enjoy the way you talk to the fish. I find myself thanking the fish I catch for the visit and fight. My daughter (14) thought I was nuts until I caught her doing it 3 days ago. Thanks for another great video.
Haha who doesn't talk to fish?! That is great to hear that your daughter and you are able to share the sport of fishing :)
Always gotta talk to them. I caught one last year that I could still see the tail of his last meal sticking out of his gullet, sat there and went “got greedy, didn’t ya?” Before unhooking him and tossing him back.
And here I was thinking about bringing a whole pile of gear, but agreed a minimalist set up is the best way to go
Keep it simple! You can definitely bring a lot on a SUP, but at a certain point, it feels like too much work lol
Really enjoy the video can’t wait for the next one
Thank you LBF! :)
Excellent video. Thanks for the PFD advice.
Thank you :)
This looks so fun! We bought 2 paddle boards this year, first time going on one, once I get the hand of it, can't wait to try fishing
Awesome! Hope you catch a lot of fish on it this year :)
Awesome series. Finally got some 1/32 Mule jigs and more lures! Can't wait till they come in.
Awesome, thank you so much for the support!!
I like that more people are doing videos on the SUP! Ive bee fishing mind for a few years now. Super easy to load up after work an get out there, but i prefer the hard boards over the inflatable.
Definitely a great option for certain applications! I really enjoyed using this SUP this fall. Excited to get back out in the spring/summer.
The Inflatable paddle board to float down rivers would be KILLER! We have a launch by me that needs two people to launch a kayak from and this would make it so easy.
Exactly! Hoping my buddy gets a board next year so we can line up a few longer floats where we don't have to paddle back upstream lol
Boom- Shaka-Laka! Nice Fish! Paddle board is looking really good.
Thanks David :) great times!
Dude I literally just started paddle board fishing for bass in Washington and it is an absolute blast. If anyone out there is like me and couldn’t stand kayak fishing because of back pain etc. stand up paddle board fishing is king. Plus sight fishing is a breeze
I definitely love this rig. Excited to keep it going next summer :)
Your excitement at 12:00… subscribed! Great content!
Thank you Cory! Nothing like a nice bass on light gear :)
It’s winter in Wisconsin right now, so I’m living my life through you right now in your video 😂
I am excited for summer. I’m in Michigan lol so it’s not much better here.
I’m taking my little 250cc motorcycle out with a SUP tomorrow for some canyon fishing. Should be a good time.
Love your vids! Just got into kayak fishing. Gulp Alive minnows caught me some panfish and a catfish
Awesome! Thanks for watching :)
Awesome paddleboard! I love using light tackle, also. Net would be clutch!
Fishing on the SUP is a blast!
You can add rod holders to any paddle board. I found some inflatable tube rod holders at cabellas and they work great. I actually use them trolling on the lake as I paddle to my usual spot.
My next purchase is going to be a cooler that has rod holders on it and it’ll also act as a seat on the board. Have a couple trolling rods, a rod rigged for bass, and a rig for trout or walleye
Combine everything with a castable fish finder and you have everything you need
Another good item is a 3 lb anchor. Sometimes it gets windy out on the lake and you float way too much
Awesome notes! Thank you for sharing. I’d like to rig a cooler too 🤠
I have a blackfin xl paddleboard that I absolutely love tones of after market accessories similar to yours
Right on! I don't think I will ever overly rig out my board personally, but it is good to have the options!
This video came out in great timing for me. I live in an apartment and I’m looking for a watercraft I can store. Saw your IG story of it packed away and it tempted me enough to look into it lol.
I think it is a really great option for certain styles of angling! Would never 100% replace my kayak with it but it is awesome for throw and go missions.
I just got my first pack of 2.2 Cowpoke Minnows. I also have a 6 pack of single hook Panther Martins (size 2 and 4), I have the minnow on as a trailer on my desk and I wager a yellow bass eats it tomorrow after work. I also just bought an 8 foot noodle specifically for tiny spinners.
Oooooh that sounds like a cool rig!
thanks for the video
Thanks for watching!
Sup Ethan! See what I did there :D
I'm currently fishing off of a Crescent SUP+ ...and I love it. At around 50lbs I just toss in the back of my truck and go...Highly recommend Crescent. And you're spot on regarding us long legged dudes...I'm 6'4" and my long legs love the SUP better than a sit on top kayak. Tight lines brother!
I honestly looked into that Crescent before working with Glide. I simply decided I preferred the option to pack it down so I could take it in my car in a duffle bag if need-be!
I'm still tossing around different options for some floating apparatus aside from my fast and loud stuff. This info is definitely helpful in deciding what direction I want to go. In the mean time I've been having a blast with my Mule tackle. I received my 1/80 oz jigs and wouldn't you know the first two fish I land also bent out the hook lol. They didn't come off though so I'm not complaining. Just fixed it and kept on fishing. It would be unreasonable to think a 3lb bass isn't going to bend that hook. They put Nile tilapia in the pond by my shop and boy are they a blast on ultralight.
Interesting! What rod ratings / line are you using? The hook should not bend at all unless you have too much pressure against it on a fish (example drag is locked down on 10lb braid).
@@FishAnything It's a 4lb P-Line leader on 6lb Jbraid, on that Fenwick Eagle. I did end up losing that one at some point and I've caught larger fish on the next jig in the pack and it hasn't budged. It may have been a defect. I'm not sweating it. I work in manufacturing so I get it. Side note: I just found some #1 and #2 offset wide gap hooks and I'm gonna play with superlining a donkeytail. Still having a blast with all the jigs and baits I've gotten from you. I'll be drifting some of these with my 18' Keiryu rod at the Lower Salt River soon. They start stocking trout next week. Time to load up the smoker.
Boom-Shaka-Laka. 👍
You da man!
I recommend ISLE Stand Up Paddle Boards. I SUP fish in San Diego all the time. The inflatable SUPs are amazing and durable. They even have ones with rod holders.
Definitely a lot of great brands out there! Thankful I got this one from Glide to test and share with all of you here on RUclips.
Amazing friend 😚
Thanks :)
For those mounts on the back you could put a tackle rack from bote on it
Good intel! Thanks
Fished off of a SUP for three seasons, they're fun never really had issues but would rather have a kayak for a seat, the option of adding a fish finder, and a trolling motor.
I love both options but I definitely like the kayak best!
We don't have room for a kayak or a canoe, my wagon has a roof rack that'll fit both but storing one would be a huge problem. A paddle board fits our life WAY easier right now. They're also WAY less expensive. I still would way rather a large kayak or a canoe...
That is such a good point. You gotta find something that fits your lifestyle best.
Also. You should try 1/8oz spinner baits. Maxx Bass (Meijer) has some cheaper but good quality 1/8oz spinner baits that are not too small profile size like Strike King. I have caught soooo many fish on these spinner baits to include Rockos, Smallies, Crappie and Large Mouth. I have had pike and hit them too but I didn’t land them.
If you can find them, the old school Bomber Mini-Whacker 1/6 oz. micro spinnerbaits are LEGIT!!! I've caught a number of 18-inch largies on them back in the day. Also, props to Meijer!!!
@@midwestfischerman hell yeah! I love and miss Meijer. I am stationed in Tx and nothing compares. And I also have some of those Bombers spinner baits. I like them a lot.
@@Tightt88 Thank you for your service to our country.
Thanks for the suggestions, fellas! Also shoutout to Meijer lol
I love the way that rod handled that largemouth. I heard you talk about the Temple Fork ultralight with Burly. Was that the rod in this video? If so, IM GETTING ONE! 😂 Great video Ethan. 🙌
This is a Kuying Teton. Very solid ultralight!
I can't thank you enough for calling yourself out about the PFD. I truly try not to ever be negative on comments, so I tend not to call out the people I follow for not wearing one. I do however always worry about those that I follow, I care for you all and would hate to receive news of something bad happening. Thank you again for your videos and being open. Tight lines sir.
Thank you Rob. Honestly, I didn't think much of it until editing them, and then realized I made a mistake. Thanks for caring - never hesitate to call me out if you see something you disagree with. That is how I get better :)
I've heard of a second spawn. It happens when the water is cooling down and passing through the temperature range and length of daylight the fish like for spawning. It's nothing like the Spring spawn.
Yeah I imagine it can happen from time to time. Who knows what was happening on this particular day!
I love paddleboard fishing but i need to get a kayak for a northern pike lake this fall 🤣
Pike on the paddleboard is a bit sketchy lol
Still think it looks sweet but needs to be about half the price :) Great series and glad you're liking it!
Not cheap, but then again, there aren't many options these days that are! Thanks Ken :)
You don’t need a $1000 SUP! I have a $300 Costco one, Amazon has a kit for $170. Rig it up with some Milk crates and PVC rod holders and you’re out there!
Appreciate you setting a good example on the PFD. Have you thought about adding a chair? pros and cons? Thanks!
I have used the cheap seatback chair a few times. Works OKAY. I am thinking about getting a low-sitting cooler to strap down. I just prefer not to sit up too high because then you sail around too much.
I used a fold up camping chair. Worked mint
Holy SMOKES, I didn't realize how tall you are😂
Lol yeah I am a long legged freak
I love fishing on my sup. Always worried about hooking my board and sinking.😊😊😊
That would not be a fun experience lol
I've been watching this series and thinking, "This would be great to leave at my in-laws house." They live on a lake and a paddle board would be super convenient for fishing.
Then I clicked the link for that paddleboard and thought, "Dude, where's the other 90% of the discount code?!" 😳
Since I'm too lazy to bring my kayak every time we visit, I'll just keep slumming it from the bank like the hobo I am.
Lol yeah this is an awesome rig! Definitely not cheap, but I imagine it wouldn't last long if it was. Seems like a quality SUP that is built to withstand a lot of trips.
I've seen ppl put a cooler to use as a seat how do you feel about that.. and next yr I may have to scoop one up
I think a cooler will be a good option. I plan to rig one up next year!
I fish of the Hobie Lynx.. About as close to a paddle board you can get. (just has pedals (fins))
That is my current dream rig. Maybe one of these days.
Greetings coming from Indonesia, greetings from fellow anglers, greetings, always healthy, my friend
👊🏽🤠 tight lines!
@@FishAnything always healthy greetings and strike greetings
where were you fishing? north? south? west? east? just curious- i fish here in TN/KY all the time and theres nothing but blue gill as well! i lol hearing you say theyre such a pain🤣 great video, ty....just purchased this same glide board
Michigan! Awesome - I hope you enjoy the Glide SUP as much as I do :)
Team Daiwa trout area comander 1.8m, 0.5-5g, what i use... Pupae Spruce Beetle, microbait Tomasz Szadkowski, best of ultralight. Greetings from Poland. She is very light-70g
0.161mm, 3, 74kg dragon hm line- made in japan
Sounds like an awesome setup! Greetings from America :)
I just checked out the cost of this SUP. It's actually a descent price!
Over $500?
$799 I believe.
I think it offers a lot of great benefits for the $799 price. Not affordable for everyone, but the reality is that you can't get many forms of decent watercraft for less than that price.
Boom shakalaka!
Thanks brotha!
Hey what is that shamono with the 30 buck senna
Not sure I follow. Shimano Sienna is a good reel for $30
Boooooom chacalaca ahahahahaha good fish
Haha thank you Jonatan!
I'm about to invest in a paddle board for this reason! Would you recommend a seat attachment?
My plan is to get a small cooler and strap it down!
@@FishAnything I was considering that! I was also afraid of a fish making a hole if I have to lay them out on the board. Is that possible?
Since you're 6ft 6, and I'm 6f 4, I felt that I should ask you, what is your weight? I'm trying to lose weight and I see you're fit, and I'm just trying to compare our weights since we are tall guys. Loved the video brother, I'm trying to buy this paddle board right now but it's sold out on their website.
I am 190 lbs. I think Glide might be working on a newer version of this board. Holler if you ever have any other questions for me. Thanks for watching!
How’s that Lew’s Custom Pro treating you? You still not a huge fan of it?
Daiwa and Shimano make superior reels. It is a fine reel but somewhat clunky in comparison. Just my opinions - everyone has their own preferences!
??? Yakattack makes a side mount transom that will work for your paddleboard ???
Might have to look into it!
@Fish Anything there isn't really any good informative videos on it but it's tempting to try if you're on the water all day
I added a Bixby.
I bet that is epic!
the code down work, can you get another 10% off code, for the new 2.0? cause this one is sold out
They just came out with their new boards. I am not 100% sure about a code, but feel free to Glide an email and tell them that you found their boards from this video and maybe they will work with you. Truly appreciate the support!
@@FishAnything ok cool yw
Capsize risk?
A joke like my fishing today. Going for a big bass. A 10" bass and a 5.46lb catfish on a swim bate lol
OOF! Sounds like a fun trip either way :)
Mate thank you for the video but you really shouldn't apologise for choosing not to wear a pfd, it's your choice bud and at the end of the day you haven't got to explain yourself. Yes they're safe but if you've chosen for your own reasons and depending on circumstances to have on in a bag on the board or not at all is entirely up to you and you don't have to elaborate as to why you may or may not wear one.
Sorry to go on but I find it sad you get these jobsworths calling things like this out, just do you bud and ignore the silly comments.
Tight lines 🎣
I appreciate it! I definitely think I should always be responsible and set a good example, but I totally agree that I’m an adult and can make choices for myself.
Should also wear a board leash to
What length & width is the paddle board?
11’ long and 3’ wide I believe
@@FishAnything cool mon thanks!
Boom Shaka Laka
Thanks Richard :)
💯🔥💙👍.
Thanks :)
