      Hi there,
      The number of electronic components is vast and varies depending. However, they can broadly be categorized into two main types:
      1. Passive Components:
      These components do not require power to operate and do not amplify or control electrical signals.
      Examples include:
      Resistors (fixed, variable, thermistors)
      Capacitors (ceramic, electrolytic, film, etc.)
      Inductors
      Transformers
      Diodes (rectifier, Zener, Schottky)
      2. Active Components:
      These require a source of energy to function and are capable of controlling the flow of electricity.
      Examples include:
      Transistors (BJT, MOSFET, JFET)
      Integrated Circuits (ICs) (microcontrollers, operational amplifiers, voltage regulators, logic gates)
      Diodes (LEDs, laser diodes)
      Thyristors (SCRs, TRIACs)
      Other Categories:
      Electromechanical Components:
      Relays, switches, fuses, connectors.
      Sensors and Actuators:
      Temperature sensors, pressure sensors, motors, speakers.
      Optoelectronic Components:
      Photodiodes, phototransistors, optocouplers.
      Integrated Systems and Modules:
      Microprocessors, microcontrollers etc
      In total, there are hundreds of thousands of different electronic components when you consider variations and specialized parts. Most electronic devices, such as laptops or smartphones, might contain hundreds to thousands of individual components depending on their complexity.
