    We saw your comments on the GMC Vandura project and our white bagged C10, so we took this week to show you guys how we create a custom patina from scratch! This is a technique we've used countless times. Not only have we used it to blend in panels to existing distressed paint, but we've also used it to create paint schemes for entire vehicles. So we're going to take you step by step through the process on how to distress existing paint, how to match patina on new panels, and how to create a patina paint job on a completely bare metal panel. If you have any questions about the process, make sure to leave them in the comments!

    I have a 1966 impala sedan that I am building with my girls. My youngest named it the Swampala and we are building it to look like a monster. I have trying to figure out how to do patina and your video has just shown me the plan for our beast. I put down a coat of black, then oxide red, then dark green. Now going to top it off with matte black and sand it back down for a patina look, like it crawled out of a swamp to eat. also the interior is all blood red. Thanks for the awesome content and the ideas. Killer builds. I am now a lifetime Subscriber. Keep up the badass work.

    Old skool trick instead of sanding off the applied primer and paint is a rag with acetone or thinner and just wipe the "worn" areas with the solvent rag

    Did a buddies truck like this. Was an old Ford always broke down i did wear spots on rear of bed n tailgate where he was always pushing it and along edge of hood bc it was always opened and closed and under windows and along window frame where ud pull door closed and where your arm would ride when window were down when it was running. He didn't think the rear and hood was funny @ first but grew on him.

    I am so glad you did this episode ! 2 days ago we had a very close call with my grandson. He was in by buddies 72 GMC suburban and pulled it into neutral on a hill. I couldn't get to it in time so it smacked a tree. Everyone is fine except the burb. It was the coolest blue patina and I thought I had just forced him into a paint job he didn't want. Now I can use this method to save the look!
    And I think I'll fix the parking brake too. :)

      Thank you! It's definitely not for everyone, but we love doing this to our trucks because we don't like stressing over those super expensive paint jobs. We've parked chachaching up at car shows, sat on the bed and had chili dog spill onto the paint and didn't worry about cleaning it till the morning.

    I love the look but you are literally painting over surface rust, won't the sheet metal continue to rust over time? How does the clear coat stop rust, of you paint over rust it just keeps eating away? Genuinely curious as any other rust inhibitor i have seen will turn iron oxidization black.

    • @SalvagetoSavage
      @SalvagetoSavage  2 месяца назад +1

      Rust is just oxidation. So if you seal in the surface from the oxygen, the metal can't continue to oxidize and won't continue to rust. Rust inhibitor works in a similar way, but the chemistry is a bit different. You don't need to build a thick coat of rust inhibitor for it to work. With the Poppy's Patina, the thicker protective coat is what creates the protection from further oxidation

    I love watching people do rust repair. Can you guys include that in your videos more?

      You'll see a lot of it in the travel all video series. But look for our Bagged C10 playlist. That white C10 had a lot of rust repair done to it

      It's definitely a very different look for the patina. It's definitely not right for every vehicle, but I think it'll make the travel all really pop!

    Why does poppy's patina say its wipe on but yall always spray it on? Is it to avoid runs? You can get the same look with "sweet patinas" wipe on product and its not permanent.

    • @SalvagetoSavage
      @SalvagetoSavage  2 года назад +1

      Good question, was wondering if anyone would pick up on that. So king story short, you can only use the whip on if it’s the real deal automotive paint that has faded or weathered over time. If you whip on after using spray cans it will smear. As far as the sweet patina I think that’s more of an oil that has to be reapplied. And leaves you a greasy

    Question, I have a 63 falcon with awsome petina, but the damn car is babycrap yellow/brown. How could I change major color of car but save the original petina. Car sat in one place 37 years.

    • @SalvagetoSavage
      @SalvagetoSavage  Год назад

      I would find a complimentary color to that original paint, respray the car, then sand down to that original yellow to your liking!

    I know this video is old but if anyone can answer. Will the viniger and salt solution cause cancer in the metal?

    • @SalvagetoSavage
      @SalvagetoSavage  2 месяца назад

      If you seal off the metal so that the rust can't continue to oxidize, the metal will be fine!

      We've used em all. It really depends on your personal preference and what you're trying to go for. We really like the satin and the matte here but we've used the gloss a few times as well!

    I was hopping not a glossy finish, patina should look flat to look more natural

    • @SalvagetoSavage
      @SalvagetoSavage  11 месяцев назад +1

      The finish is definitely a style preference. The matte gives it a very natural look but the gloss over patina turns a ton more heads

    You did an awesome job on the patina. But I am personally not a fan of gloss on it because it doesn't look right to have gloss rust. 🤷🏻‍♂️
