No match fixing involved. Belgium still had a chance to qualify if they indeed won the match against Holland. Their keeper was their best player. And the Scots will never want to lose a match against arch rival England. This was just an incredible thriller night for both Holland and England with the Netherlands as the lucky winner. I think the last 6 minutes we played with 1 keeper, 2 defenders and 8 attackers. With a precise counter Belgium could have scored the 3-1

Maybe an unpopular opinion but I'm glad we didn't qualify. After Covid delayed the Tokyo Olympics and Euros by a year, we've had tournaments for 3 consecutive summers. The players are burned out. The only World Cup player who's started this season on form is Niamh Charles, most are still recovering. I think they need a summer off and a proper preseason then we can defend our Euros title. Lucy Bronze knows it was her last chance to play at the Olympics, that's why she took it worse than anyone else.
We didn't lose because of Tuesday. We lost because of a disastrous performance against Belgium last international break.

Belgium would NEVER give away goals against NL. If you watched both games, it is clear neither Scotland nor Belgium were giving away goals.

It’s quite insulting to suggest that there was match fixing. Why don’t you watch the match NDL v BEL match before hinting at controversy? The (healthy) sporting rivalry between Belgium and the Netherlands is very strong. Think America vs Canada. There is NO way the Belgians didn’t want to win against Holland.
On top of that, England went 4-0 up so early that the Dutch were playing “Hail Mary” football for most of their game. It was risky, but it worked because the pace of the game took its toll on the Belgian defense.
The Netherlands fully deserve their place in the final.
I agree that it should have never happened where England and Scotland are part of the same group. That way it would have avoided the chances of people speculating that the match was fixed. I am just sad that England could not be part of the Olympics as they are a great team and competitor. They really need to expand to give more teams a chance of participating to the Olympics. I do think the Dutch deserved their win and moving on to the semi.

The Netherlands should qualify irrespective of the goal difference. The head to head should go 1st before goal difference. N won 2-1 and lost 2-3 so go through on top for the away goal. Rules need to changed similar to mens Euro qualification and wc men qualifications. This is the fair regulations to avoid manipulating results in the final games which has been done many times. The latest was Netherlands men not qualifying to wc 2018 for the same stupid rule where sweden topped the netherlands. While the dutch should have qualified on head to head (the result of the 2 matches of the dutch vs Sweden.) Rules Need to be changed!
Rules are not the same in every game.
During the tournament itself the rules will change to a far more complicated system.
The team with the most scored goals get precedence.
Then if there is a tie they will check the goal difference.
If that is a tie they will check the individual matches between the tied teams.
If it's still a tie then they will throw a dice and the winner is decided by luck.
But during group stages they always check goals scored first then goal difference and if there is still a tie then they look for the team with the most (red/yellow) cards and eventually they can decide to have a play-off game, penalty kicks or throw the dice.
And it can get even more complicated, so please learn the actual rules first since they are truly complicated to be fair for everyone.

If you look at the goals from Engeland and the goals from the Dutch, these are very different. The last 2 goals from the Netherlands were headers while the bal was passed. I thought that for a few goals from the England team the Scots could have (should have) defend much more, but clearly they didnt.....Food for thought?

Having seen both game replays, I see no reason to think there was match fixing involved.
First, I don't think Scottish people could do it. And in the other game the Netherlands could have won by a bigger margin (or also be scored against).
Damaris Egurrola is a very good player (she plays for Lyon so it's kind of obvious) and scores quite often with her head, I'm not surprised. Being the end game, the Dutch were giving everything and she was at the front with more opportunities to score. And the goalkeeper had no chance on the 4th goal anyway ... so substitute or not ...

If the purpose was for NL to score a fourth goal, then why bother bringing in a new goalie? Evrard could just let a ball go through, you don't need a substitute for that. But thanks to Evrard's injury, there were 2 minutes more of extra time than in Glasgow. That made the difference.

solution for one problem where the think there is match fixing going on make sure that countries like Scotland and England who go to the olympics together, make sure the play in different groups and never together.
1) England and Scotland should never have been in the same group due to conflict of interest.
2) Having only 3 teams from Europe being able to qualify to the Olympics is ridiculous due to the strength of Europe. The same problem on the men's side.
Concacaff (where the US plays) is ridiculously easy to qualify from. The US unfortunately has been not just caught by Europe, but left behind. Off the top of my head France, England, Holland (perhaps) and Sweden are currently better than the US. Things might change temporarily as Sweden and Holland have some players getting old, but the European system of football is way stronger in Europe and the coaching in the US has not produced a top 5 superstar in quite a few years.
3) How in the world can England and Holland be put in the same bracket? Same thing with Spain and Sweden? All 4 of these teams are stronger than Germany, yet Germany is in a group that does not include any of the top teams, and two of the weakest teams overall.
And yeah, don't believe the haters, the women's game is skyrocketing to where it deserves to be!
It is what it is, personally I think it's a blessing in disguise? Our Lionesses realistically have far more to gain from the World cup/European championships, yeah a Olympian medal would've been fantastic, but hopefully it's an opportunity to keep our players fit.
The level of football is so high compared to other continents that it’s kicked European football in the teeth. Some of the best teams are missing out whilst lower quality worldwide teams are going, it’s crazy!

She took a group of very good players , and started to teach them tactics. From Sept 2021 to the end of 2023 , England trained, practiced, listened, learnt , and then start winning. Game , after game , after game. In 40 games leading up to the WC Final, they had lost 1. Once. They had beaten everyone they had played. Scotland were the lowest ranked team of the 16 in Div A , and 25th in Fifa. Of course England were going to win. They needed as many goals as possible , and Scotland had lost 5 on the trot. Relegated whatever they did. When England are on fire, that can score 6. They scored more than that plenty of times. Lucky? No , just world class players , going flat out against a team that just couldnt stop them . But thats just my opinion . Your arse or not :)

I still don't fully understand the Olympic qualifying scheme, but that seems to be the true culprit -- any worldwide competition in women's football that doesn't include both Netherlands and England has suspect entry conditions.

Its sad we did not qualify but I do not think we deserved too. The Lionesses has not been the same since the Euro's. In my personal opinion it was pure luck we got too the final's of the world cup which I also believe we did not deserve as so many games where down too penalties .
We got to the Final because we won all 10 qualifying games , 3 group games and then 3 knock out games. Played 16 - W 16 . Thats how. Better than Spain did.
I wasn't even thinking about match fixing, and before it was talked about in the podcast, I was thinking the clip you showed of Scottland goalie, almost saving one of england shots, I was thinking to myself that, that looked weird, looked like she pulled back a bit and allowed the goal to go in .. By the way, I think that the Scottish, Irish, English, Welsh, USA, and Canadians should keep their own domestic teams, and leagues, and in the case of Ireland and Britain the European football, but should also have extra cross border trophies between club sides from Scotland, England, Wales, Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland, Canada, and the USA.

I was sure there was something fishy going on right up until the 49th minute, after the Kirby goal went in. 43 whole minutes then passed before Lucy Bronze scored England's sixth and final goal. What the hell happened in between those 43 minutes, when England (i.e. Team GB) could have cruised to the Olympics?? I think England just ran out of steam, physically and mentally.

I was in St. Pölten watching Austria vs. Norway and afterwards driving about an hour back home. When I came home, I saw that England was leading 5:0 and The Netherlands 2:0. Then suddenly The Netherlands was 3:0 up. When England scored the sixth goal, I thought it was over. I was wrong.
A thrilling end to group A1. Definitely no match fixing, just 2 strong teams fighting for a possible spot at the Olymic Games.
Such a shame that Europe only has only 3 spots at the Olympic Games, so that teams like Sweden and England have to miss out.

As usual you are talking a lot of rubbish. The Belgium goalie was changed because the first goalie was hurt and efforts to keep on playing did not work. As you can see for yourself goal 3 and 4 could hardly have been stopped anyway. Nr3 came from the crossbar and 4 was a fine cross right on the head of the tall Damaris. (the first goalie had some incredible saves)
The Scottish keeper though made a lot of strange faults, at least 3 goals were her to blame. And were you not surprised that team that unluckily lost on Wembley 2 -1 loses 0 - 6 on their home side? It was obvious that several Scottish players had an interest in England with a big score. And yes, the several parts of GB should never have been together in one group. If England fans accused Netherland match fixing... must be crazy. First...Don't look on how the goals scored because England play an away game and scored 6? 4 goals in the 1st half. Netherland played at home. They have all the support from the home fans to score more. Second... Scotland have more legit to match fixing allowed 6 goals conceded compared to Belgium. They can play as GB team. Third... The 4th Netherland goal was a good cross into the box. Even the 1st Belgium GK will not be able to save that goal if she was not injured. Far from the reach of the GK. The header was so close to GK. England GK Mary also would not ever to save that one.
Fourth.... Belgium have the chance to be top of the group while Scotland not. Which team looks like ready for match fixing? Even the last 10 minutes, Belgium almost score one or two goals on the counterattack because Netherland put everyone forwards. Only 2 defenders at the back in the end. Bottom line, England have to blame themselves. They were so bad in the first 3 games after the World Cup. They should not lose points against Belgium in the first place to be honest. Anyway... It is strange how sometimes teams from the UK (or GB) represent the union, sometimes each country represent themselves.
Imagine all German states representing themselves in sports competitions.
So GB now had the advantage of competing with 4 teams, to end up merging the best of these 4 teams for the Olympics and play as team UK?
That would be like the Netherlands merging players from Belgium (and Luxemburg) in their team for the Olympics and play as team BeNeLux.

I disagree with your comparison. Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg are independent nations, have their own seats at the UN, EU, separate Olympics nations. UKGBNI is one nation, one seat at the UN, formerly one EU Commissioner. The correct comparison would be the United Kingdom of Denmark. They include Denmark, Greenland and the Faroe Islands. Each have their own football teams but one seat at the UN and a combined Olympic team

I think it is so demenior to even consider Matchfixing atm. Just because teams make alot of goals? Scotland has nothing against England squadwise. It doesn't have to do that Scots want to win over England, their squad is not even comperative. Netherlands were before the game the one dictating the tone. This is a classic setup were a team is forced to rely that another team does not score alot of goal or win, just to be able to advance. From the start, that is (sorry for the word) shitty attitude to the sport. Both matches were fantastic but the whole game were more or less over if Netherlands made 2 goals. C'est la vie. The football scene in Europe is tough as nails atm.

There for sure wasn't any match fixing. Like Belgium had no reason to match fix and Scotland is too competitive, also Belgium is. As a Dutchie I feel like the Dutch Lionesses are being underestimated. We have a growing team that had to get better after Parsons was involved as a head coach. A lot of new players came through and the team had to find a way to get past it all. Now the Dutch Lionesses are getting better and better while having a top tier Dutch coach called Jonkers. Even Wiegman knows he's a top coach but even she sometimes underestimates the Dutch national team and their coach. England have a good squad but if I were Sarina Wiegman I would definitely try and get more young players involved before it's to late. Like for example the US team had trouble with that and Wiegman should learn from it. I'm happy my lovely Dutch team got to evolve and are still evolving and they are showing it of bit by bit. Hopefully we will do well against, France, Spain and Germany and we'll go to the Olympics.

Whoever thought that making Europes Elite teams take part in another Euros (effectively) in the MIDDLE of their already packed Winter football schedule, whilst the likes of the USA, Brazil, and i presume others were allowed to qualify TWENTY MONTHS earlier…whoever thought THAT was a Level playing field needs to be got rid of from Women’s football 😡.
It’s beyond wrong, and frankly scheduling has been prejudiced (not really the word i’m looking for, but bear with me, i’m on a rant roll!! 😂) against European Women’s football teams for the longest time.
I cannot lie, the first thing most everyone I know or have read said, post not making the Olympic next bit…and please bear in mind the complete bonkersness of the remaining four European teams having to fight for two Olympic places in FEBRUARY…was thank god our Lionesses can finally get some proper rest and recovery next summer 🙏. England played all the way to the Finals in the Euros and the World Cup and many players only had two or three day off after media work, and THEN also had to contend with the draining Nations League matches! I know Spain were similarly affected, but a) they got many of their players BACK after the World Cup, whereas England LOST some influential players, and besides which Spain ARE rightly the best team in the World at the moment and are just unstoppable 🔥!
Nothing but best wishes to those 4 remaining teams, and i honestly think i speak for most England Supporters. Kudos to The Netherlands for doing what they had to do!

If Scotland & England are, essentially, the same team going forward, then you can't put them in the same group. I don't know if something else would have not worked out or what, but you can't put them in that situation because you know if it comes down to it - this is exactly what'll happen. Everyone sitting around screaming about match-fixing. I don't think there was match-fixing involved either, but WHAT DRAMA. That's a damn movie!

Having said that, the way to go to the Olympics was changed this time. As runners up in the World Cup, England would have gone before this Nations League idea. Note the men do not go to the Olympics unless GB are hosts, because of the four nations for one team issue. It leads to other countries demanding one team and one FA for UK, as they say it is not fair UK can have more than one place at other championships at their expense.
The Scots and English played the first international football match. Scotland has every right to have their own football international team.

Dutch person going to bet for Scotland here. The Scots looked like they were trying, they almost shot England out themselves. Our commentators on the broadcasting from early on said that the Scots were playing for real.

As for Belgium, the keeper was time wasting a lot. To the point she got booed when she got injury treatment. I'd say she was injured at that point. For the Dutch there are some old wounds of having a match fixed against you and not making the end tournament because of it. Spain and Malta did it on the men's side decades ago but people hold on to that stuff.
All in all the big losers are football and UEFA. It's unfair that thos situation was allowed to happen. Fair play to all the ladies who played their hardest, it was a memorable night!

They cancelled the first goal so it didn’t count. That ‘second goal’ was not offside, the third ine was borderline

People don't know what matchfixing is. It's not super obvious substitutes or suddenly allowing a team to score in the very last second. That would draw an amount of attention. In real life it's more like one team playing 80% while they could've played 100%. That's also why it's impossible to say because both Scotland and Belgium knew they couldn't gain anything by winning, so there was no real need to play 100%.anyway.
I feel like this talk about matchfixing is just something people do when they're angry about the result. Both Netherlands and England made dumb mistakes in earlier games and let it come down to this last game. And with a scenario like this, you just know something crazy is going to happen and things can go either way.

the statement about Belgium not gaining anything by winning is not true. If Belgium had won the game against the Netherlands they would've been at 2nd place in the group, which meant they would avoid the relegation play-offs and be in better position for euro qualification.
But I agree there was no match fixing on either side and it was just a crazy occurance of both teams really wanting it and using their last seconds to give everything. That's just what happens when it all comes down to one all or nothing game.

I didn’t get to comment last video about England & Scotland, but it would have been a huge disservice not to play your all. It doesn’t make sense to concede and “fix” the game for England to move on. All I have to say is it’s tough times in the Euros, just as others have stated. I’m gutted for Lucy Bronze… and as a USWNT fan, a little happy Sweden didn’t qualify. Sorry 😅

Win and there wouldn't be any talk like we have today about them not advancing, match fixing and missing the Olympics. I'm upset they won't be in Paris. But since the WC they haven't been the same team.

I watched the N vs B game, because they controlled their destiny. I didn't notice that B changed goalies. I was joking days earlier that everyone thinks S will give it away bcause theyre team GB, maybe B will give it to N because they're both Dutch. As an England fan I'm pretty certain there was no match fixing. A couple of the Dutch goals looked offside to me on a brief viewing (plus one of England's) but those are the breaks.
As a Dutch person and fan I agree there was no match fixing, but the effort made by Scotland was far from 100%. This is a problem that could not have been avoided on the day, I mean if you are going to lose and it's better to lose badly it's not like you actively pursue that, but effort will drop almost invariably. This situation should have been prevented when the draw was made, that was obvious before and is even more obvious now. Both England and the Neds had one goal that was offside, there is nothing there.

Anyone who thought the Scotland v England game was fixed, must have been half asleep. Leaving out the fact that Mary Earps saved two certain Scotland goals, the quality of England's goals would have been a match for any side. Also, once Belgium were down a couple of goals, they knew they were out of it, so the players would have lost their fire - especially to defend in added time. xx

Before the England v Scotland match the Dutch manager questioned the Scottish players' integrity his comments enraged the Scottish fans and the players. The Scots would never allow England to win and you know it, especially at Hampden Park in their own backyard No one cares about a team GB when it comes to football. Scotland took a battering from England no team wants to be embarrassed like that in their own stadium.

England couldn’t have done much more we won 6-0, but the Netherlands won 4-0 helping them win on goal difference and if England scored 1 more then we would have qualified for the Olympics. Scotland tried hard to not let in goals but England were to much, but I do believe Belgium could have done more to not let in as much goals

Belgium time wasted all game. Had 9 players behind the ball pretty much the entire game. They did everything they could to frustrate the Netherlands and break the rhythm of the game. Belgium even should've had two red cards, which weren't given. By the time of the 3 and 4-0 the Netherlands had on like 5 or 6 attackers. It was an all out assault on the Belgian goal.
England beat norway by 8goals and they are a way better team than scotland. They just put 3 goals away against netherlands in 45mins coz they had to, so dont see why people who actually follow womens footbal think this result doesnt stand up. The point is beth meade is back and we just score loads when shes on the pitch.
I think this format really is against those who go far in the world cup because its so draining and then a couple of weeks later they are playing games that matter in the nations league, its crazy.
Spain also underperformed for their own standards. Thats why it made some sense that the final players of WC used to auto qualify.

Also as you say the standard of non euro teams that qualify is lower than many of the euro teams that wont qualify which is bad.

If people want to complain, they can complain to the ref who validated the second nederlands goal, which was offside.
Belgium had to win the game if they wanted to « escape » the relegation games…there is no way they lost on purpose.
