It feels more like "being pretty" is a requirement for women on Twitch while it is a bonus for men. All statistics about the biggest streamers on the platform prove that women have it way harder to succeed either despite or because they are pretty.
There are girls that stream for 1 month and get partner and 3k subs like nothing. There are guy that have streamed everyday for the past 3 years that aren’t even close to that. And these girls with 3k/5k subs can barely even get a kill in the game.. so yea much easier. If you are a guy you have to be skilled at the game. If you are a girl you have to have big tits or a nice face.
Looks will always attract. Quality will always keep a person there. It’s like listening to the radio and hearing a new song for the first time. The beat will draw you in but if the lyrics are horrible, you changing the station before the first hook.
Always thought the 'hot girls get more viewers' was just a lazy excuse. The girls at the top may be good looking but they do just as much work behind the scenes as others. Looks really will get you only so far in streaming
Being an avid Twitch viewer myself, I definitely can say that 'pretty' girls have an advantage in the click through rate but if their content and personality is crap, no viewer [other than for simps] is going to long-term watch their live streams.
Holy moly you put me in your video! Thanks for your insight with all of the questions including mine, to be able to ask questions like this and get an answer from someone who genuinely knows what they are doing and knows the patterns really is a godsend.
I get why so many people complain about being a pretty girl is easier. Whenever I go to 'just chatting', half the top rooms are just girls with a cleavage or in yoga clothing. But that's the problem; they are often the same girls, that skew our perspective. There are plenty of others out there
@@daarksideyt let me rephrase it. What's the difference between men who take off their shirts on stream and women? Why are women considered strippers and men as "cool"?
So... Yesterday, I came across this girl in just chatting. Big cleavage, constantly adjusting her top and that was all she was doing... She didn't even have a mic, she just sat on her bed, mouthing at the music. No interaction with chat besides a kiss when someone donated. She had 2.200 viewers

Just wanted to say that you do well with complex questions from what I've watched. You show that you are cognizant of lots of angles of certain topic matter. I think that makes a good talent in your mentioned metaphorical toolbox for streamers to get recognized. Be easy, mate.

I was super bored last night and found myself on Corinna Kopfs stream cause I've only seen memes about her. I might not have tuned in for long but my God was she dull. I expected her to be but her chat was just full of dudes throwing compliments left and right
the talking one is tough. in real life i can talk for ever as i deal with hundreds of different people a week but when streaming i clam up sometimes . very strange
It's definitely that cold feeling of staring at a camera lens knowing invisible people are on the other hand. I like to practice by talking to my Discord panel when I'm not streaming to see how I react and how the tone sounds, record that, and play it back while I scroll back through the chat. Absolutely recommend this as a practice for the awkward silence.
You insight about 'you need 2/3 things to stand out / be succesfull and being prety can be (just) one of them' is really an eye-opener. I think that nails it completely. Kuddos.
I've been watching these videos over the last week not because I have really an interest in streaming itself, but learning about how it all works. A little about how "to be interesting" is a lot about "being interested". I'm interested in learning about this stuff so you become interesting because the interest is already there. Now to further that you create more interest in my interest and now it's like we are having a conversation. I could go on and on about this. Good video.
Thank you for being honest about the question of attractiveness, AND having a completely reasonable and optimistic view about how it isn't as important as people think it is. I love the "three skills" idea, that really seems like an industry secret.
Honestly for such a tough topic I feel like you spoke exceptionally mindfully and gave a good answer. When I was first getting into Twitch I would go live and used a face camera. It never seemed to matter if I was dressed to the nines, having a lazy comfy day, people would come in and just be awful. I had rules, I'd give warnings and try not to engage too much, and then ban them but they'd just send more friends in to do the same. I haven't felt super comfortable with the idea of trying again but I"d really like to. My most loyal viewer joined me on a no camera night and he's joined me every stream since because we just pal around and it's great. It's hard out there no matter where you fall on the spectrum of 'conventional attractiveness' vs personality vs what companies and sites know will bring droves of traffic to their sites. Also, I run LInux for my OS, Any advice on programs like streamlab that aren't compatible?
On the subject of Stream Beats ( Which I LOVE btw) I used the Synthwave playlist on one of my streams and on the VOD Twitch muted the entire beginning section of the video even though it was just Stream Beat's music playing, does this happen alot to others? How can we ensure that Twitch doesn't keep muting things including ( apparently ) copyright free music?
15:35 I think you have a great point there because I had my close friends give me feedback about one stream I had that it was really fun. When I thought about it and thanked I realised that well I was feeling pretty good about myself so I guess it shows up really clearly to anyone who is watching.
I think my biggest fear for streaming would be having loads of viewers but the majority being there for my looks. Almost makes me glad I'm not one of those super beautiful people. Seems like a looot of pressure lol
I legit don't care to stream anymore, but I still always enjoy all your videos! and it might be difficult for you at times, but it definitely seems like you were born for this! I appreciate all your content and that you're always wholesome; and thanks for being the 'go-to guy' when it comes to streaming/equipment and all that good stuff!
I'd love to hear some rock and metal music on Streambeats, is that something you'd might consider doing? (And don't act like you can't do it, I heard those riffs at 07:15) :-)
I’m glad that you actually answered the train-corn question, because if you didn’t I would have had to research it and then I would be falling down a steam-powered rabbit hole until 3am. Edit: make that 7am, because I just realized it’s almost 3am already, whoops!
Really good answer on "being interesting" there at the end. Really great point to think about. Heck, you might could do a whole video on that itself. Thanks Harris!
As a fat guy with a fucked up/chipped front tooth who started streaming two months ago, yeah. Just make sure you bring something to the table that is unique to you. I'm not big or anything but just made affiliate last Saturday and average about 7-10 viewers per stream. Not the craziest growth in the world but it's a good start. I'm happy with where I am. My goal was to hit 50 followers/affiliate by my birthday and I beat that by almost 3 weeks. All that said, I'm sure someone will see this and say that's not that many viewers or whatever and that's fine. I'm happy with where I am!
A few months ago, the idiot Marketing director (3rd party) for Google Stadia, made a comment saying streamers should pay licensing to stream games. He got completely destroyed and it was a PR disaster. If the record companies sending out DMCA strikes to Twitch gets revealed, would they get destroyed, and finally flip the system. Would Record companies finally say "hey it wasn't worth it to force ad revenue from streamers, and it certainly isn't worth the PR disaster that comes with it"
I feel like a lot of streamers also enjoy being able to spread their content across multiple platforms and not putting all their eggs in one basket. If they were to move everything to RUclips and something happened with their account or the platform itself, they are SOL.
I have had so many people that say that to me but I actually got my followers from me watching twitch educator like Harris and other stream educators helping me to learn skill while u was just started. I am thankful for all the advice. Thank you Harris
I know a girl that did twitch, that got her views based on her thirst trap but it didn’t last long because some drama went down and she ended up losing a ton of viewers after her thirst trap was taken away

Your stream beats have been such a good thing for the community as a whole. I really appreciate you putting the time you have into it because it really helped with a ton. Glad your getting your dream studio because it's more then deserved.
It's not just the gaming community either. I make videos on heavy equipment and my channel is getting blown out of the water by a few females that have started channels. Men like women. Our junk leads us to the attractive females. That being said, women have taken a back seat to men for such a long time I kind of feel like we had it coming... Great content by the way!
I really appreciate how you answered the attractive question because if the world views you one way... how you view “ yourself” and how that shows to the “ world” is extremely important SO! You give them other creative focus and you will definitely be just as successful 💜Amazing job!!
Looks can help just like any other type of trait that sets someone apart from the crowd. But only good gaming content that delivers clear value to the viewers will have sustained success!

Genuinely thought your answer to the "attractiveness" question was spot on. Does it help? Yes. Is it the "be-all -and-end-all"? Nope. Seriously, round of applause that man for not dodging the question or mouthing platitudes that "attractiveness doesn't matter". Of course it does. But it's neither necessary nor sufficient. Bit like if you're born with a brilliant mind it helps achieve academic success, but if you aren't that "gifted" you can achieve too - you just need to work a bit harder.
I've been using streambeats but I'm a little confused how to get the tracks. I've been using a Spotify downloaded and getting them that way. Is that the correct process?
The Twitch renevue leak proved that this is not true. The highest earning female streamer was 39th on the list, and only 3% of the entire list were women.
you answered that question perfectly. I believe i am not attractive and I think it is very accurate that I need 3 unique "skills" to aid in my growth and to help my community.
Hi, Harris, I have a Question. It's about Using a go PRO as my webcam on stream is it worth buying a mounting case for it to be compatible with a better lens I'm thinking about looking to make things a bit nicer as I don't have the most money to back my streams and youtube videos so can't afford to pay our for a mirrorless camera or a camera at all but the mounts are around $30ish I just wondered if they were worth looking or if you have had experience with go pro mounts for other lenses. sorry, this is not the best question. nor have I laid it out the best but I hope you cant get your head around the question in itself. Thanks in advance and thanks a lot
Not that my opinion means much, but yes you did well on explaining the "pretty girls" thing. A lot of my own success gets discredited based on how I look, when they don't see the 10-12 hours a day of work I put every single day into every aspect of my stream. I acknowledge that appearance can play a role, but I'd still be at 0-3 if my content sucked. You put it eloquently and I have always respected and looked up to you and your content! Thank you for making streaming an informed journey for me and so many others.
For the question for your physical makeup, I'd say it unfortunately matters somewhat but it doesn't have to be your primary 'attractive' trait. I went through a very awkward and chubby time in my life, which I'm thankful I did because it made me a humble and thoughtful person. I'd watch streamers with a bubbly personality and an amazing sense of humor over a streamer who's skinnier, or who has a classic 'pretty girl' face any day, and I'm sure that I'm not alone there! Play to your strengths, and if you weren't given the 'pretty' part, I'm very certain there's a whole lot more important sides to yourself that others want to know about more than your looks!
I think you approached the attractiveness thing in a respectful way. Thanks, Harris. I think there are definitely people out there who are only looking for someone pretty to look at. Honestly, though, not only is that super objectifying but you don't want someone like that on your stream. You want people who are interested in you, your content, and what you bring to the table in all aspects - not just what you look like. I agree with the idea that there are people all over the attractiveness spectrum and it's not like "pretty people" ONLY watch other "pretty people" videos. So, don't worry about it, I say. Make good content, be yourself, and don't stress. :) Good luck, streamers, have a great day!
Holy shit you were a hero before I watched this video but quoting Ron Swanson just made you an elite 😂 unreal man you’re an inspiration, I’ve only just started a RUclips channel and streaming, picked up so much and I’m dedicating most of my free time into learning stuff for example I’ve just upped my game massively creating thumbnails! I’ve gotten pretty comfortable with making and editing videos (really enjoy it) Had my first serious stream the other night (5 hours; got raided, nearly at 50 followers and YT subscribers) but that part doesn’t bother me much I’ve got a pretty decent day job but I’m so passionate about it now I just love learning new things and it’s really helped keep me focused in the lockdown, anyway, keep up the good work man! 🙏🔥
I think there needs to be a video on recognizing when it is time to invest in bigger better equipment. Harris does preach you don't need it to start but is now invested in a whole studio. When do you make that dive is something a lot of people need to learn because usually you need to take a hit that leads to growth later on in running any business and sometimes if you don't know what to look for you miss potential or worse sometimes you mistake potential and collapse. It is pretty obvious that Harris has the art of when to make that dive down at this point.
Honestly in my opinion Twitch biggest move whould be a deep integration between Twitch and the Amazon affiliate program. If you can make it easy and convince the majority of Twitch streamers to display a product shelf from Amazon that whould be big money. The second option is to sell certain AWS products to streamers, if they created a software that made streamers lives easier (or made thier stream better) that whould be a major marketing tool for all AWS products. It seems like a missed opportunity.
I think the woman asking the question about delayed gratification is saying that she struggles staying motivated with things that rely on delayed gratification for their payoffs. Like RUclips does. There's a lot of people out there who have problems with that aspect of internet-related business. But there are people who want to put in the hard work, but have motivation issues tied directly to the long term gratification/reward structure of content creation. She has a notebook full of ideas, but is struggling to get started/keep on task. So I think she's asking for advice on how to approach creation from that angle. Though I could be totally wrong, that's just how it sounded to me.
I like to say: "Pretty girls have it easier to initially be found, but 'harder' to actually achieve things" For the why: It seems like any female streamer seems to attract way more "Oh look a woman" viewers because it still appears female streamers are rare as Unicorns (while they are not) while a new male streamer often gets the "Oh look another boy wanting to become the next *insert famous streamer gamer name* from mommies basement" Also the prettier you objectively are the more initial clicks you will get (regardless of gender) Why they have it harder? A lot of people will be like "Oh she only got viewers because she is a pretty woman" not considering how much time she put into it and how much thought she put into the quality of her content. While most guys get a "he must have worked for it, because he doesn't have boobs" Sure there are "booby streamers" whose only content is their body, but way less than a lot of people think. There are many female streamers who get way less credit and viewers than they should get.
@@daarksideyt damn, that sucks for all the women out there who struggle with maintaining motivation. Guess I'm good though. Lucky me, I was born a man.
I feel like that is because there really isn't anything you can do about it other than understand that it is going to happen and that you just need to keep going and improving upon yourself until you start seeing results. My content creation is a hobby for me and I don't expect to hit anything above 10 or 20 views in a while.

And they do it all to grow their ig profile. Most of them never even played a game until they realized they could make money off of it
Pretty AND single
Looks will always attract. Quality will always keep a person there. It’s like listening to the radio and hearing a new song for the first time. The beat will draw you in but if the lyrics are horrible, you changing the station before the first hook.
Always thought the 'hot girls get more viewers' was just a lazy excuse. The girls at the top may be good looking but they do just as much work behind the scenes as others. Looks really will get you only so far in streaming
Man I remember when Ludwig only had 300k on youtube and how fast he grew
Agreed
Only 300k. Haha.
Bruh i remember when he was at 100k its insane how much hes gained

Being an avid Twitch viewer myself, I definitely can say that 'pretty' girls have an advantage in the click through rate but if their content and personality is crap, no viewer [other than for simps] is going to long-term watch their live streams.
Holy moly you put me in your video! Thanks for your insight with all of the questions including mine, to be able to ask questions like this and get an answer from someone who genuinely knows what they are doing and knows the patterns really is a godsend.
thanks Harris!! as a regular looking creator, this was a great reminder and encouragement for when those insecurities creep in. lots of love :')
I get why so many people complain about being a pretty girl is easier.
Whenever I go to 'just chatting', half the top rooms are just girls with a cleavage or in yoga clothing. But that's the problem; they are often the same girls, that skew our perspective.
There are plenty of others out there
@BrainStatic What's wrong with being a stripper?
@@daarksideyt They are there to feed children. They are most def not made for men. But they are sexualized, that's true. Other than that they're just body parts.
@@LittleJur So what? If she chooses to use the fact that men sexualize her body to her advantage, does that make her a bad person?
Harris, you sound so sincere with your responses to subjects that seem to require critical thinking and objectivity, such as the "attractive streamer" question your viewer had posed.
Just wanted to say that you do well with complex questions from what I've watched. You show that you are cognizant of lots of angles of certain topic matter. I think that makes a good talent in your mentioned metaphorical toolbox for streamers to get recognized. Be easy, mate.
Would it be an Alpha Gaming video without Harris saying Owned.tv is your one stop shop for all your gaming needs
10:05 "Pretty girls on Twitch have it easier"
@MrTinoz lmaooooo tf
someone had to say it.
My mans didn't even clean the pasta sauce off the corner of his mouth before he started recording lol
That's a proper gamer /RUclipsr 😂
You did everything you could to not get canceled with that question, excellent work LOL
Should see Facebook gaming .. christ, some blokes are so desperate. A fit lass streaming warzone and all the blokes are friend requesting em, laying down all the superlatives, expressing their love, "oh baby you're so hot" .. jesus mate get outside ya dork!!! thousands of views!!! A bloke does it. 4 views and 1 of em's his mam!
Oh dude facebook gaming works incredibly well for booby streamers. They are basically taking over lmao
ya no wonder its a bunch of predators
I was super bored last night and found myself on Corinna Kopfs stream cause I've only seen memes about her. I might not have tuned in for long but my God was she dull. I expected her to be but her chat was just full of dudes throwing compliments left and right
Being pretty makes video easier
Being charismatic makes video watchable
the talking one is tough. in real life i can talk for ever as i deal with hundreds of different people a week but when streaming i clam up sometimes . very strange
Also, I run LInux for my OS, Any advice on programs like streamlab that aren't compatible?
dude you've had so many own3d.tv sponsorships that my Cookies are filled with it...
When I thought about it and thanked I realised that well I was feeling pretty good about myself so I guess it shows up really clearly to anyone who is watching.
im so excited for you man! cant wait to see this place in 5 months
Very true and genuine responses. Thanks for your help
I think my biggest fear for streaming would be having loads of viewers but the majority being there for my looks. Almost makes me glad I'm not one of those super beautiful people. Seems like a looot of pressure lol
Yeah this has got to be one of my favorite videos so far, I love hearing more about the questions that are never awnsered, please keep this series up
This is funny because every stream is essentially a "Ask Harris." Love it.
That's the plan
Me : *sees the title*
Also me: clicks on the vid hoping he roasts simps 😂
Sorry lol
Harris: You need to develop 2-3 things that make you stand out.
Booby streamers: I've got 2 things I've developed right here
You are so insightful. I love your philosophies! I am so glad I decided to start sharing you with my live-streaming class! THANK YOU!
Would you call steaming on youtube with 140 viewers successful? And 26k? What does the comments think.?
Same lol
I've really come to appreciate your content, your videos have always been super helpful, the DMCA free music with multiple genres is some next level help which also allows you to focus on both your passion for music and helping others, thanks for all that you do for us, wish you the best =)
As a female streamer, I find that women can gain FOLLOWERS more easily. But it’s harder to gain VIEWERS.
Yeah, I have followers BUT when I was streaming I barely got 1 person watching.
Thank you for all the tips for twitch. I am using it all to try and help grow my twitch. It really helps me.
Love your energy in your videos, Harris. There's this easy feeling of listening to quality advice from a trusted friend.
Your welcome and thank you again all my vids use streambeats
I really appreciate how you answered the attractive question because if the world views you one way... how you view “ yourself” and how that shows to the “ world” is extremely important SO! You give them other creative focus and you will definitely be just as successful 💜Amazing job!!
Looks can help just like any other type of trait that sets someone apart from the crowd. But only good gaming content that delivers clear value to the viewers will have sustained success!
I've seen otherwise from varies girl 'streamers'
@@ee1yd the only people who watch those are thirsty stans trying to win their attention, that being said they do get more attention cause the outfits and thirsty people being thirsty
Will definitely be using some of your tracks for my vids man. You inspired me to even start a page so ima have some traces of Alpha here and there. Thank you!
I downloaded every streambeats song available. Every song that I have had the chance to listen too, so far, is amazing. Great Job!
Kudos for the way you handled that attractiveness question man. Not an easy one to answer honestly.
"pretty girls have it easier"
*puts ludwig on thumbnail*
🤣👌
Well he's not wrong!
Well pretty people or exceptionally talented people have it easier.
pretty girls do have it easier in general at life
thats not a debate
thats a FACT
The Twitch renevue leak proved that this is not true. The highest earning female streamer was 39th on the list, and only 3% of the entire list were women.
@@20quid incorrect
women have it easier in every single way
you answered that question perfectly.
Harris just wanted to show some love man. I’ve listened to so many of your videos and they’ve really helped my streaming. Thank you bro!
This video Q&A format is dope. Has a Gary V vibe. Keep up the good content!
I only watch harris to see his hair I can't even hear what he's saying.
The stain of the Doritos on the corner of his mouth has had my attention this entire time. That being said, all sound AF advice.
And you cannot calculate distance without a starting point Philly is just a destination not a beginning
This man speaks the truth! I dont stream but i do browse twitch and chicks always have views! ..I like to look for streamers under 10 views
It is not about the viewers but a legacy you sir have helped thousands of people with streambeats and your content :)
I like to say: "Pretty girls have it easier to initially be found, but 'harder' to actually achieve things"
For the why: It seems like any female streamer seems to attract way more "Oh look a woman" viewers because it still appears female streamers are rare as Unicorns (while they are not) while a new male streamer often gets the "Oh look another boy wanting to become the next *insert famous streamer gamer name* from mommies basement" Also the prettier you objectively are the more initial clicks you will get (regardless of gender)
Why they have it harder? A lot of people will be like "Oh she only got viewers because she is a pretty woman" not considering how much time she put into it and how much thought she put into the quality of her content. While most guys get a "he must have worked for it, because he doesn't have boobs"
Sure there are "booby streamers" whose only content is their body, but way less than a lot of people think.
There are many female streamers who get way less credit and viewers than they should get.
"Years of working for free..." yeah, it's called an internship.
These were some good questions, thanks Harris.
Question at 10:10 the ad I got....Peloton. What weird timing. 😂
I love how he didnt answer the girl's question about how to help with delayed gratification. He just said, get used to it lol
I appreciated your use of nuance in the age-old question regarding attractiveness.

Hey, I need some help. Should I keep the Logitech and return them? I have a sony wh-1000xm3. Recently I purchased devices to start streaming and with this, I bought a Logitech g pro x wireless for gaming. Something that I notice is that sony is amazing in quality comparing to Logitech, but I really do not know the difference between gaming and normal headphones. Thank you much
Something that I forgot to say is that I use a elgato wave 3 (recommendation from the best) for mic so I do not need the mic for the headset.
I’m from Illinois, so naturally I found the Corn talk to be extremely intriguing, well done
