    Working in someones home and castle is such a hard thing. Personal possessions and space etc and wanting to cause the least damage can make our jobs so much harder. This is were domestic sparks excel way beyond commercial/industrial sparks. I learnt/learn more on domestic than anywhere else in terms of problem solving and general construction. Top video again!

    100% correct Nick I work industrial now. With house bashing you spend more time tip toeing around a property and dealing with angry Karen's. Peace.

    Good Video mate exciting to hear new things are coming!
    I've been a sparky for 10+ years and done 3-4 years domestic after a commercial industrial apprenticeship, I think they are both equally hard graft, depends what your doing, you get good and bad clients, jobs that required a delicate touch etc in the other sectors too, even though there are a lot of similarities between them i think its like comparing apples to oranges tbh.
    Commercial/industrial sparks sit on a high horse because that side of industry is far more involved technically and skill wise in my opinion so they think they are special, however there are a lot more useless sparks in the commercial/industrial sector than domestic ones, i personally learnt soo much on how to run jobs, how to manage clients and a lot of basic wiring principles from my time in the domestic sector, stuff you never get elsewhere.
    I just don't enjoy the work, i need to do something fulfilling and that tests me everyday, and i don't get that wiring houses, domestic sparks are proper grafters though, you have to be to be successful anyway!
    Will have to see if i can get you on some of my stuff - collab vid??

    We call industros "tray bashers" and domestic sparkies "roof possums" here

  • @HootMaRoot
    @HootMaRoot 3 месяца назад +4

    I think you will find the house bashers are the domestic sparks that only do agency work on new builds. When they smash out 5+ first fixing a week for for that sweet quick finish bonus

    Not done fusebox 3ph yet, but have done a few budget brands that have the same problem. I found quite a few have a couple of screws that hold the half din in place. If you slacken them off the rail can be moved slightly outwards, the breakers then sit square when pushed in and tightened on the bus bar.

    To stop the breakers sagging, get the metal bit from a chock block and cut a slot in it with a hacksaw. Works brilliantly.

    Had those lifts in our old storage unit. Bloody annoying, amount of times you go to wheel a pallet in and realise someone at other end hasn’t closed the door! All the way down stairs to close it then back up to come back down. 😂

    @TheRealCrAzYShOTTAHD 3 месяца назад

    Gotta love the 8 way but actually 7 way 3 phase boards

  • @badbradmx
    @badbradmx 3 месяца назад +1

    That lift is fine. If you yank on the doors you Interrupt the lock circuit and create a fault condition where, for the sake of safety, the lift will stop. Also if you try to do it before the locks have been released when at floor level then clearance issue could arise meaning the locks don't actually release. Both situations should be easily resolved and depending on the controller the lift will do a self test to reinstate itself. Or it's as simple as pushing the door closed further and then trying again. 9:18

    As a (retired) spark who has done both residential and commercial, I'd agree that resi is harder. In addition to all that you mentioned, you also have the Mrs. constantly changing her mind on locations. fixtures, etc. Makes bidding a nightmare. As for the banter, yours (which is quite tame by the old standards here) won't fly even in commercial here, we have too many delicate little alphabet flowers who have saturated the trades here, and constantly whine about "he said something that offends me." (So glad I retired.) I did go to Dublin and IoM in summer of 2022 and really appreciated the sense of humour over there, they can dish out and take some of the most wicked insults without getting all butthurt. I hope to someday expat over there and live my remaining years in a place of beautiful lands and wonderful people.

    Moved onto commercial when I moved to London also did some industrial at the same time .
    House bashing is far harder in my opinion especially occupied houses .

    retired now but used to enjoy the commercial much more found it more varied than bashing rewires out or new build installs twin and earth bored me,prefer large 3 phase boards hydraulic lug crimpers for board tails ,large submains and switch fuse isolaters ,steel conduits metal trunking dado office trunkings ,hi bay warehouse lighting. doing 5 first fixs a week or 5 second fixs a week on a muddy site just to make daywork money was hell on earth.

    • @brightsparkmid
      @brightsparkmid 3 месяца назад +2

      Not a chance, would never just r2 unless it was something I could not get to but had an accessible conductive part how you ticking polarity at that point ?

    • @tebscat
      @tebscat 3 месяца назад

      With your test meter's indicators when carrying out Zs. R2 is a perfectly valid reading to give - that's why there's either/or columns in the test sheet. Polarity (correct or otherwise) is a default indication on all Megger testers when doing live tests. [edit] And think about the order of testing - where does the Polarity test come in? It's the first of the live tests, just before Zs test is done.[/edit]

    • @brightsparkmid
      @brightsparkmid 3 месяца назад

      So we only ever dead test and forward calculate the zs. I have always found this a much more stable way of testing, I can then also confirm polarity without having to have the system live
      Each time their own though

    • @tebscat
      @tebscat 3 месяца назад

      @@brightsparkmid Fair enough. There's a few ways to skin a cat. I did get my arse kicked at a NAPIT assessment years ago for recording calculated Zs, as opposed to measured. [edit] You should be able to teach Nick a thing or two with the commercial side. Good luck with it! :)[/edit]

    • @brightsparkmid
      @brightsparkmid 3 месяца назад

      100% mate. I tested a load of lidls years back and you could only get to do an r2 on most things but it was what it was high and fridges etc were an issue.
      Ye see I hate people back calculating r1+r2 from zs but don’t mind a forward calc as that’s kind of by the book,
      He is an ace guy and we have been having so much of a laugh at the same time,

    Sorry mate but you are talking bs because a lot of industrial contracts aren't always on new builds:I've been on big contracts where people are working there and the public are close by :how is house bashing more difficult than Industrial work:a shower 2 lighting circuits 3 radial socket circuits possible a boiler maybe a garage supply and wow even a eV charger fed by a baby swa my heart bleeds for you mate:as a recently retired JIB GOLD CARD APPROVED INDUSTRIAL SPARKS of 50 years I think I know a little bit about the industry:an £8 ,000 rewire or a £300,000,000 contract on a recycling plant in Kent with 1200 men working onsite:please just because your in an empty warehouse you think that's the norm for industrial contracting, you need to get out there to see the real world of Industrial contracting ,I'm not belittling you because I watch your blogs and you seem a very good and conscientious sparks, I'm just saying don't make remarks on a part of our industry that you don't know enough about,other than that keep up your good work
