Thank you! Any idea of the origins of SP’s red and gray color scheme? Perhaps a low maintenance thing (doesn’t show the dirt therefore no cleaning/painting)? On an unrelated note regarding a Charles Smiley video I watched yesterday that featured Summit and down into LA’s Taylor Yard, and that is after following along on Google Maps and seeing the enormously large footprint of the former railyard, to include the present Metralink? yard, the closing and demolition must of had a devastating affect on SP labor as well the local economy. Lastly, the St Paul Ford Plant video was awesome! Lived across the street on Woodlawn Ave for a tad; there’s still some remnants of rails visible via Google, but looks mostly grown over. Cheers. This is why I don’t comment often….blah blah blah…and can’t shoosh.
Re: paint... In 1958 SP was trying to come up with a less costly paint scheme than the Black Widow. The first iteration was black with Daylight Orange hood ends that came to be dubbed the "halloween" or "pumpkin" livery. The majority of people thought it was too somber and unassuming for a railroad as influential as the SP. After a month or so of deliberation the Lark Dark Gray and Scarlet scheme was chosen.
@@zhiracs Thanks so much for replying and the detailed SP historical information; fascinating-and, thanks to another CS video depicting Bay Area rail operations, I’ve seen the Black Widow scheme. Cheers

I love all railroad video productions, even Charles Smiley Presents. Wonderfully done, detailed and great to watch.
Love the SP variety in its last days! All the dash 7s and 8s must’ve been so cool to see.
AWESOME ..... i need to get some popcorn!!!! 😳
Great Pomona and Ontario runbys at the beginning. Its almost like I was there! 😁
I remember you being around the tracks during that time a lot. It must seem real, almost like you saw these same trains yourself!
Miss the SP running through AZ.
