Valium and other benzos most certainly cause withdrawal issues This is confusing.

I remember this struggle about whether or not to take a pill. It was my health anxiety. I learned the hard way that the pills didn't actually make me sleep, only sedated. I took Ambien and the first time I slept 6 hours. Yay! Right? I took it a second time and slept 2 hours. Uh oh. I took it a third time and slept 30 minutes! My insomnia triumphed over all the medications I took. The silver lining is that it convinced me that these drugs only produce sedation, not actual sleep. The sedation CAN, but not necessarily trick us into feeling less anxious and that's the key to effortlessness. At least it was for me.

Spot on Daniel! Unfortunately i was into sleep meds too when i had insomnia from 2020( due to covid scare yes!). I thought i will never get my sleep back again. I was like, easy for you to say that you just need to not fight back, don’t do anything because sleep happens naturally. But what about us who are insomnia sufferers? Every bit of what is said on here is true thanks to coach daniel and other speakers. Courage. It took tons of courage to accept things, to not dwell on my insomnia each dreadful sleepless nights. To enjoy the daytime with normal activities. And with courage to accept that there are good nights and bad nights. My body became more relaxed, my mind became peaceful, my heart and nerves have calmed down. Sleep hygiene, well i can’t say much but the only step there that helped me was to stop looking at the clock, which definitely does not help in my relaxation. Another thing is proper breathing. I just noticed that my body is all tensed up all the time. Diaphragmatic breathing helps a lot. Yes, sleep comes naturally, just try to unlearn things like sleepless nights will make you insane, that one bit built up my sleep anxiety. And listen to coach daniel 👍

Since the beginning of my treatment after a speed bump (I had no knowledge of your channel, or of Alina, Michelle, etc., nor knowledge of the philosophy explained), I started taking, in addition to the anxiety medication that I had already been taking for some time time, a benzo, also for anxiety (used all day). That was the doctor's opinion. Anxiety is your problem, not the fear of wakefulness etc...
In my case, I was reluctant to use benzo, as I knew the risks (tolerance, dependence, etc...) but I was desperate, having had a relapse after 1 year and little of good sleep.
Then the conflict that Daniel mentioned started strong. I needed help and I wasn't accepting it.
Now I'm accepting it more calmly (not 100%) and I fall asleep.
How many times did I do what Daniel said: "I'm going to try to sleep without the medicine, I think I can do it" and the hours passed. I confess that sometimes I didn't take the evening dose and managed to rest, even waking up very early or close to my old time.
Finally, I have a few questions Daniel, if you can answer them.
1 - My doctor is adamant about deadlines and doses. And when she told me that I would have to take the benzo, it was an absurd internal conflict. How can I react to this, using acceptance (this medicine, like many, has time for withdrawal)?
2 - What does the issue of drug dependence look like within your philosophy? I know there is the issue of delegation, which explains a lot about the case, but for some hard-headed people the medicine seems mandatory to sleep.
3 - How to make this transition (from taking medication to not taking it) more smoothly? I think everyone wants to sleep like before, without any fear of the process and without effort. (I'm sure you've already given this insight to those lucky enough to participate in the immunity program)
Thank you for the assistance. I have learned a lot from you.

I do think this is true some of the time, but not all. There have been times when I have delegated, taken a pill which usually worked and I trusted to work, and then it didn't. Other times when I had to take several doses because the first didn't work, even though I expected it to. So I don't think this placebo effect is always true. Also, all medications have some effect on the brain - it is not magic empty placebo effect. If it was, there would be no withdrawal, and no pooping out of effect. Having said all that, it is a good point that the mind has a lot of power when it comes to anxiety and arousal levels.

Super-insightful as always. The Tension Release ... wow, absolutely spot on - I remember this so well! Daniel, in your NATTO book you describe in some detail another aspect of this - the way in which sleeping pills and other sedatives scramble the brain's ability to put together coherent warning messages, and so the fear of wakefulness is reduced. I notice you tend not to emphasise this aspect any more - is there a reason for this?

I’m so glad I found you! But I still haven’t found advice on how you decrease that attachment or need to sleep when you only have a set number of hours to get sleep before you have to wake up and ‘perform’ amongst people? And fear their judgement.

Daniel, in your book set it forget it , page89 you say Sleep happens when there is enough gas and little braking going on. Medications cannot produce a solid Sleep drive, but they can temporarily ease up on the gas ?? Should that not be brake ?
On page 92 you say what caused yout have such a strong rebound insomnia had nothing to do with the absence of a chemical in your brain , rather you approached coming off as an experiment. So is tapering off not required then?

      Hi Bert!
Very observant 😊 once every year or so someone point to this typo that I have to dice one of these days. It should say ease up on the brake.
I’d say as for insomnia, which is a fear, tapering is not required, but it can still help. Imagine if you believed something had kept you from danger, even after logically understanding there’s no danger you may want to take it slowly just as an act of gentleness with your emotions.
As far as the chemical withdrawal symptoms, that may need tapering!

Does working at night and trying to sleep during the day make insomnia worse because there is a big difference between sleeping at night and during the day?

But, what if you finally decide to NOT take a pill? Still - tension release, and peaceful sleep happens without a pill, so if this occurs then no reason for anyone to ever even ‘think’ about a sleeping pill which brings us back to delegation. Why are you not saying sleeping pills like benzos block anxiety and sleep drive then produces sleep, but not the actual benzodiazepine. This is how it worked for me for a long time until I realized I was addicted and the benzos were causing other side effects so I weaned off over a nine month period.
