I owe you for a lot of info you have given thus far. I've been working on my credit and my wife's. I applied for a Discover Card for my wife, which she was pre approved for, for 2 card on their site. We went to the next page, and they needed some verification forms, which we sent through email. The next screen gave us a number to call, if we wanted an answer right away. We called. 10 minutes later on hold, she got approved for $3500! She is finally in with Discover! After 4 denials! Thanks Seb!
Thanks so much for this video. You finally convinced me to get the CSR. To show you my appreciation, I just got accepted for the CSR using your referral link from the other video. I really hope other people contribute back to your channel because you literally expose the credit card game! So yeah, you might want to post your referral links in this vid for easy convenience just in case people change their minds like what I did.
I simply could not see myself owning that many top tier premium cards. Either an Amex Platinum or the CSR would be my limit. Partner that with a low or non-annual fee card to supplement its weak spots, example IHG card or Chase Freedom Unlimited.
I look at them as a sort of prepayment discount, in part because I typically use my points for hotel & train fare. Your economic analysis is really spot on.
Very Simple, you get what you pay for. Sometimes it’s worth paying extra on a card to get access to a better experience. Especially if you are planning to travel.
I would suggest starting/expending on a personal banking relationship to garner a better offer, especially considering the best current public offer is reserved for Chase Private Clients (60K UR / $4K). Doubtful we’ll see another 100K UR point offer given that they are working to cut oversight costs. It is a great card so I hope you find an offer tempting enough to reap the benefits.
I'm paying $800 in annual fees. If I ignore sign up bonuses, I value the perks at close to $2,000. That's also if I give no value to Cap One Spark, which is a nice 2% for business.
Sebby you a highroller. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. By the way, I question the value of the Ritz card long term. Personally, I am waiting for a Marriott 100k offer to show up...
I'd argue you got more value with all the status upgrades you get from status at hotel chains. I'd love to know the true value of everything in a year in addition to your conservative appraisal for hotel stays.
Hey Sebby. Can't believe after all this they don't wave your card fees. I have a friend that had his AMEX Platinum card waved. I forgot why they did it Not sure if it was because of his spending or the job he has. But common. If they don't pay you for sponsored just wave the fee! You deserve it
Great video sebby I’ve been waiting for a video like this 👍 are you still keeping the Ritz Carlton even though the tix have been above 100$ on the visa infinite portal?
From my calculation, I'm still saving $25-$75, but definitely not as great as before. In the past, I was able to do SFO to LAX / LAS for $5 to $15 per person.
I'm guessing it depends on the person you deal with and whether they need to hit any quotas. I know with other banks, they have a bit of flexibility with things like this or waiving fees.
Can you make a video on the Alaskan credit card ... They have free companion pass for the 1st year. Maybe a video comparing it to the southwest credit card?
Hi Sebby, I see on your video your business platinum is a 100K offer. The best I can see right now is 75K for both personal business. Its it worth applying or wait for the 100K offer?
Depends on your need for points. With Amex, I would wait for a historic high offer: www.asksebby.com/blog/rules-to-know-for-american-express-credit-card-applications
Hello Sebby, we'd like to see a video on where you buy your clothes from. Given you're financially savvy, I bet it's someplace affordable with good value in their products. Hope it's not weird :)
Banana Republic for shirts right now and jeans that are "expensive" but on-sale ($200 down to $30-$40). I've hit the point where I like the increased quality from certain brands but find a way to pay less.
wow, all of your offers are better than the public offer. Wish the CSR is still 100K :-) Great content btw :-) You think the CSR 100K will ever come back?
Just Reviews very unlikely. Chase lost money on those sign ups. They were paying you to sign up for it and create word of mouth to become the new Platinum Amex for milenials.
Yeah. Very unlikely. They were basically giving away $1500 for free advertising and to bite into the Platinum's share. It worked but they lost hundreds of millions of dollars. The most that you can possibly get now is 60k if you try to do an application in branch but that's hit or miss.
As you stated, value can be subjective and objective. I value the Amex concierge service for its ability to get me into certain restaurants and Fine Hotels and Resorts portal much higher than many would. On the other hand, the Amex incidental airline fees is a pain in the butt to use. I never fully utilize it. It is great to play around with these numbers to make sure you're getting value, both objective and subjective, from these cards.
imperium2000 , for me I can’t optimize the Uber Credit. I drive everywhere and UberEATS is unavailable at my address. I have found that some of my Amex bonuses for shopping with Amazon makes up for that, though.
@AgentWestcoast:I usually don't do checked luggage or when I do, it's for international flights where they are free. I do on occasion use it to pay for an in flight meal or a seat upgrade but since I often fly with the family, its very inconvenient to do so. @kobebraynt: I fly United and Alaska from SFO and SJC. Its very hit or miss buying gift cards with these airlines. I did successfully get part of my airline fees reimbursed since when I used an Alaska gift card it got the price of the ticket billed to the card below $90. I guess Amex's system thought that was for a seat upgrade or some other fee and not for the ticket itself. Personally, Amex's restriction on their airline allowance is my biggest gripe about the card. If they remove the Uber credit and just give everyone a $300 credit for any travel, I'd be happier with Amex and make the card way more competitive...oh yeah and their stingy travel insurance does not help either.
Question: for the 4th night free does it have to be consecutive or can i book 2 nights and 2 rooms checking in and checking out all under the same name and time?
I would, at least temporarily, but that's just me. You could really make arguments for both sides. I'm a firm believer that there's no free lunch and I'm completely willing to take x steps back to take x+y steps forward.
iam preapproved for the reserve and preferred i dont travel like that but i want a card that gives me the most money my total amount of credit between my three cards is only 10 thousand and the minimum for the reserve is 10 thousand
I spent about $1300 in credit card fees; the AMEX Plat and the CSR making up the majority of it. I plan on downgrading my AMEX Everyday Preferred and, maybe, the Chase United MileagePlus Explorer.
Not sure if you mentioned how much money spent to get that kind of bonus from each card like $4000 for chase sapphire reserve or I guess $5000 for Amex Platinum.........
Interesting, people do love shows, games, concert, etc. I personally have never been to any of those places. I just don't get it why people are spending hundred or thousands of dollars sitting there for a few hours.
Sebby I have my Amex Platinum for years...and just received a target offer for the United Club card with a $0 annual fee for first year, $450 after that. I’m wondering which one to dump and/or should I add a Chase top tier card to maximize points earned?
The main purpose of the Chase United Club card is just for... United Club access. I can't justify a $450 AF (with no travel credits to mitigate the cost) for lounge access. YMMV depending on airport you're based out of obviously.

Superpowers!? lmao! I like that category.

Saving freedom points for CSR, hoping for a good offer soon.

William Murray thx I have the freedom and ihg and being very careful with them.

I thought you down grade from Amex platinum business to Amex platinum or you are using this as what you had previously?
Derek Brown , there is no downgrade path for the Amex Platinum card, which is why he cancelled and applied for the personal one.

Ask Sebby did the flight prices go up in general or just on the portal?
Sebby! Great video. Also from SF. Think if I head to the CT branch, they'll get me the "citi gold" price for Prestige?
I'm guessing it depends on the person you deal with and whether they need to hit any quotas. I know with other banks, they have a bit of flexibility with things like this or waiving fees.

imperium2000 You can use it for checked bagage fees. Usually $25 on a one-way flight, so 4 round trip flights are worth $200 checked baggage fees.
I bought 2-$100 Delta gift cards and Amex reimbursed me $200 as an airline credit Then used it towards delta ticket.
@AgentWestcoast:I usually don't do checked luggage or when I do, it's for international flights where they are free. I do on occasion use it to pay for an in flight meal or a seat upgrade but since I often fly with the family, its very inconvenient to do so.

imperium2000 I agree with you 100% Amex needs the $300 travel credit like CSR has.
Question: for the 4th night free does it have to be consecutive or can i book 2 nights and 2 rooms checking in and checking out all under the same name and time?
Richard Ra , it has to be four consecutive nights.
Is it worth it to continue paying the annual fee when we don''t use that much money anymore?
If you're getting positive expected value from the card, yes.
If your passion is traveling do you suggest working a job you hate that pays a lot ot fund it?
I would, at least temporarily, but that's just me. You could really make arguments for both sides. I'm a firm believer that there's no free lunch and I'm completely willing to take x steps back to take x+y steps forward.

Based on the spreadsheet will you be cancelling CSR or downgrading?
Initially, I was going to downgrade it. Given the One Sapphire Rule, I'll probably keep it for 1.5 CPP on flight deals.
OK. So even if I transfer UR points from a Chase INK or CSP account if I redeem from my CSR account I get 1.5 CPP on flights?

How much does charge card affect your credit when canceling?
sunny khoja same as any other card
I can't wait until I'm able to get that much value from my cards.
Did Citi Prestige get rid of the signup bonus?
Yep. I'm guessing temporary but it's been 1-2 weeks now.
LIKE A BOSS

Average rent in San Francisco for a 1 bedroom is $3,294 a month :) www.rentjungle.com/average-rent-in-san-francisco-rent-trends/

I was recently told that the Chase Sapphire card no longer allows you to double dip in travel credit. Can you confirm this change?
It's now based on card anniversary year and no longer calendar year.

You can use the Centurion Lounge on arrival flights too? I was told by AMEX it's only for departure flights..
