    “I am sincerely trying now to create a dance technique based entirely upon corrective exercises, created with a knowledge of human anatomy; a technique which will correct physical faults and prepare a dancer for any type of dancing he may wish to follow; a technique having all the basic movements which govern the actions of the body; combined with a knowledge of the origin of movement and a sense of artistic design.”

    Fernando is an EXCELLENT teacher. This video made me work !! 😄. I love 💕 not only his teaching method, but the presentation! The drum reminded me of an African dance class I took years ago.
    I will continue learning from him as long as he makes these videos !!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

    Thank you for posting this! I only just started taking class with you at Ailey when NYC closed, and your class was the last time I was in an actual dance studio. I’m so glad you made this video, and I look forward to seeing you again in person one day ... soon, I hope! I hope you are well.

Nice guy and patient teacher and passionate dancer. Great to see you haven't stopped in person as well. Glad you chose Steps on Broadway.

    First, Fernando, thank for for generously posting this free class to RUclips!
    For those curious about this class: It is absolutely wonderful and absolutely NOT for absolute beginners. I haven't danced in years and my body kinda remembers what to do. I still found this class a little challenging. If you have no experience in dance, I suggest finding a BASIC dance foundations class before attempting this one. All that being said, I loved it and will absolutely be back!

    • @MjYoutube78
      @MjYoutube78 2 года назад +2

      Ditto to all of that :-)
      and in particular: 'not ...if you have no experience in dance'.
      Some of the movement does require a fair degree of core strength, internal and comprehensive body awareness. Without an instructor to catch if you are misplacing, it could be tricky.

      Agree! This is beginner Horton level, but not regular beginner dance level :) Thank you, Fernando, for this great quick training session!

      What is this technique helping with exactly? It looks like a lot of stretching.. is this just making you more aware of your posing and to loosen you up? Is it mainly for contemporary and ballet or does it help with any dance like hiphop?

    • @heavenlyboy34
      @heavenlyboy34 Год назад +1

      @@puccarts This sort of warmup routine is appropriate for modern dance. Lots of floor work and unusual movement in that style. Ballet warmup is usually barre and then maybe some center stretching. Depends on who your teacher is. Barre is universal, but other than that, it's up to the teacher.

    This was fantastic.
    Thanks so much for producing (much obliged Claudia and Miguel!) and posting:
    a lot it so familiar from jazz classes incorporating modern syllabi -
    for a more technical warmup -
    but then it was mixed in with Graham and Limon, too.
    So it is lovely to work this technique in its pure form following your clear and unfussy instruction.
    (Very pleasant teaching voice, too, BTW.)

    Thank you for posting this Fernando! You are not only an incredible teacher and dancer but you're also a wonderful person. While it has been a few years (thank you, Covid) since I had he opportunity to dance with you in person, I still carry two lessons from you with me always - preparation and discipline. Such important qualities for anyone to master regardless of how well they may dance.

    I wanted to try out a horton technique class for beginners but when I tried to book there was a small print that said it wasn't suitable for people without prior dance experience. I was disheartened but then found your class here. Thank you! It was difficult but fun and I can't wait to do more and watch my strength and gracefulness increase with time:)

    I was a student of Ernestine Stodelle and she, I thought, was influenced by Doris Humphrey, but much of what I see you doing is Horton which is so familiar to me as a Stodelle dancer. I assume she also was influenced by Horton, a contemporary. Thank you.
