Tornadoes are already very rare in the Pacific Northwest so I can imagine the look of confusion on peoples faces when their phones go off and then look to see a "Tornado Warning" issued for their area.
Been through hurricanes and typhoons. Lived in western WA for nearly 40 years. Went through the Inauguration Day storm of 1993. So I say with all conviction that last night was pretty damn impressive.
DON'T CUT TREES RESTING ON POWER LINES, JFC. Y'all gonna get killed. Doesn't even matter if the power lines are off at this moment, they can re-energize anytime without being properly switch out and grounded first.
A lot of the fallen trees are of the type called "weed trees," ie alders. Trees like alders are an important tree because of how well they fix nitrogen and thus provide favorable growing conditions for other important plants. They used to be readily removed from alongside areas of concern because even slim, short trees' tendency to fall. It is failure to thin larger ones near areas of concern that has caused a lot of property damage, disruption, serious injury, and death. Removal of larger, problematic weed trees is still a good idea.
I got a slab from the base of a 80 year old alder that fell back in 2007. It's been drying/seasoning for over ten years. I'm going to make a one-piece Telecaster body from it. Sunburst with bindings. I used to do nitrocellulose lacquer finishes years ago.
@@cml423 funny thing is last night my power was out when the storm first hit but the people across the street had power all night but theirs went out after midnight, now mines is back on and thiers is still out. the outages were real spotty around here.
Hwy 169 between black diamond and maple valley is open. No power. I am glad we don't have to deal with flooding, This is minor compared to having your house flooded. I was surprised at the slow traffic. I had to go out to get gas for my generator, Why were the roads bumper to bumper? Why didn't they just stay home?
Covington was hit hard as well, a large tree fell on our trailer and the roof came crashing down onto my sons head, and had a concussion and 10 stitches across his forehead. Our trailer is destroyed and now we are homeless, but very lucky to be alive.
Most of those trees require a very large chainsaw.to.operate a very large chainsaw you better know what your doing.because a very small chainsaw will ruin your day in the blink of the eye.
A friend in Port Townsend reports that the crews laying the fiver-optic liens cut a ditch across many roots of large trees, and now those trees are destabilizing. I wonder if the same is true for any of these downed trees. We all rail against overly zealous requirements for environmental analysis, but sometimes it’s warranted before work is done.
Im inside the puget sound and its like nothing is happening. Im so confused. This is the first state I've lived with mountains and been far from the ocean. I hope everyone is safe.
That doesn't happen without human involvement. Just ask the eighth district court and my sisters. I rushed a tree onto the house I was living within. Maybe I was trying to commit treeicide? Lmao....
Wtffffff, okay as far as I know, this is legit a FIRST. Sure, we've always had what I've called "tree storms" since I was little, but a TORNADO??? In the PNW?! That is not normal. At all. 😳😳😳
🤔Why aren't all electrical cables laid underground like in Europe? Firstly, the damage would be less and secondly, 100,000s of residents would not be without electricity. Thirdly, the expensive repairs that are currently being carried out would also not be necessary. Fourthly, people would not have to use lifting platforms, which would also save lives. Apart from that, the tangle of cables in the air does not look particularly good. Simply incomprehensible!🤔
PSE like most power companies are using technology from the VICTORIAN ERA. You would think they'd figure out something better suited to the weather here..
That would be awesome. So wasn't happy Florida got all the fun. I couldn't believe when science said the volcano was climbing. Don't stand watching volunteer help you better do more than them cleaning your mess. Now no one has no job you all have work

Why do people act so shocked and surprised when we have some bad weather? Bad weather isn't something new. It's been happening forever. It's why we have and buy insurance. The future is unpredictable and uncertain. It always has been and always will be. So, be like a good Boy Scout and "Be Prepared".
Jesus is coming. On April 9, 2021, my vision went black for a quick moment, I saw in gold letters - Thus saith the Lord. Four hours later? On April 10, in my sleep I heard - Prophet. Tell them I am coming soon. Maybe 3-5 min after that, at 1235 AM, our area had a 3.1 eq.

It’s not been bad. Depends on where they are.
This is why we spent the money we didn’t have to get our huge sick trees cut !!!!! It’s saved our lives and roof
You rock! My neighborhood has 3 huge ancient ones that have been ignored for ages. Maybe now the city will do something about them.
With strong enough winds healthy trees fall. Nobody wants to preemptively cut down trees, especially the utilities when they aren’t liable.
Poor trees

Kent here. couple branches down in my yard. And power only flickered.
Yep, pretty much the same in Redmond.

Power out here in granite falls
Wow for once we hardly got any wind and our lights only flickered. Here on Graham hill we lose power often in winter because of high winds
And how do you propose they visit the website if the power is still down? 😆

America first 😊

Can take weeks to restore power. Got to remove those trees first.
The pattern will soon become more frequent.
