Back in 1991, they didnt have the resources to do a background check like they do now so people could easily submit a bogus resume and even false references, managers would rarely check and you could wing it and even get away with it for a time if you were quick to know who did what and how to use them like she did. What I do think would have been harder for her to do would have been getting a fake drivers license for ID and also her social security number would have given away her age once payroll was processed. The petty cash thing ,she got around that by using money from her paycheck to replace money she took for personal use.
But the boss loved her because she was more creative and kept everyone from losing they're job. If she didn't come through and if the boss hadn't of hired her. The fashion company would had gone out of business.
In reality that company would have done a thorough background check. Therefore, she wouldn't have been sent to prison because she wouldn't have gotten the job after the background check.
Well, she wouldn't have gone to prison for lying about her age and identity,no,but she(and her four siblings)would definitely go to jail for doing what they do with their babysitter, after Mrs. Sturak dies. Really,a stunt like that would definitely hit the papers big time, after Mrs. Sturak would have been found to be mysteriously missing, don't you think? Not to mention that a bunch of legal stuff has to be taken care of after someone passes away,as everyone knows(like canceling of any memberships, etc, not to mention a death certificate, above all), and even if Mrs. Sturak had "no family,"heck, what the five of them all do is FAR FROM being "the only decent thing to do." Swell even admits this, towards the end of the movie, when she says,"Look,we are a family of felons..." referring to everything that had happened since the babysitter passed, including committing embezzlement, where all four siblings had eagerly helped themselves to the money(ordering the new home entertainment center,Zack getting his girlfriend Cynthia a diamond ring), where Swell finally realizes how terribly doomed they are.
Not a knock on Gillian Anderson, because honestly no one could've brought the character of Scully to life like her, but to be fair in retrospect after re-watching these scenes Jayne Brook would've been a great Scully on X-Files in her own right. Her and Duchovny had good chemistry in this movie that was kinda a prelude to that show.
Jayne Brook doesn't have Gillian Anderson's seriousness and subtle sexiness underneath her intelligent exterior. David and Jayne's character here are more like brother and sister. Not near the smoldering chemistry of David and Gillian.
“I KNEW she was a phony, I did NOT think she was a thief!” “She never stole from petty cash; all she did was use it to pay for the party accessories, the proof is right here! Let’s split, I give up!” “Psst, come here, let’s try this storage box!”(Choir of humming angels heard, to emphasize the suspense, as they discover the answer)”She’s only 17!(Chuckle)AHA! NOW We’re getting someplace!” “How humiliating! I LOVE IT!” “Yes, babe, justice has been SERVED! Delicious victory is OURS!!!”
She didn't steal from petty cash , it's all for the buyers shindig," please tell me how does a person see what the heart look like from outside a container? If a head turns into a heart ; how long does it take?"
I always noticed that myself. I know this is a movie, but in real life, if someone had left their wallet behind, it only makes sense they'd want to go back for it if they had suddenly missed it later on(realized it was missing), especially because of their DRIVER'S LICENSE. But again, because this is a movie, I know it was scripted that way, so Carolyn and Bruce, who obviously would have played it sly by going back to GAW after everyone had left to go over to Sue Ellen's for the party, so as to hopefully still get an answer to Sue Ellen's "fishiness,"(after Bruce had overheard her tell Kenny over the phone that she was taking everything from petty cash), as you know first Carolyn says,"She never stole from petty cash, all she did was use it to pay for the party accessories, the tangible proof is right here," adding,"Let's split, I give up," but as she spies Sue Ellen's brief case she and Bruce decide to try one final and last time to get an answer, and what do they find but Sue Ellen's driver's license, and BINGO! Yes, they finally DO have an answer-she lied-"She's only 17!" exclaims Bruce, chuckling, all like, "Ah! Looks like we're getting someplace NOW!" And you can tell just what Carolyn is implying when she and Bruce arrive at the party when she says, "THIS is going to be so much FUN!" Namely,"I can't wait to see the look on Sue Ellen's face after I show Rose the photocopy of Sue Ellen's driver's license and Rose will then have a little talk with her!"
@@MrJamieMurph4141969 Actually, this mistake of leaving one's wallet (with driver's license) does happen once in a while-and is not realized until one gets home-or later in the evening! But not every day!

The crazy thing was he was in the right for the entire movie lol, guy just wanted to do his job and some teen lies on her resume, takes a job above his that she cant do, and berates him for doing his job while she makes a personal phone call and steals the companies petty cash.
His gum chewing, neck cracking, rolled up suit jacket sleeves, everything about his character was so hatable
Yea he was passing me off lol
He was the same way in Beethoven
And his ponytail.
Most 90s character ever

Back in '91, when the 80s refused to die
not even call people at those references? Damn...
@@pattykuvshin 1992 and 1993 really ended that one fast. Also this movie was filmed in 1990 so the 80's were still in full swing
Payroll does not check your SS number at least not today. You will still get a check even if you were to use an incorrect SS number.
