    Very useful review and mine has just arrived. I'm sure the Japanese on the outside would be instructions - but as I do not read (or indeed speak) Japanese I was very pleased you explained it all. Great job, as always.

    I have so many top tier sharpeners and this one is by far my favorite long point sharpener. You can put a super sharp tip or a nice blunt one. The jaws do not eat into your pencils like most of the same design. Worth every penny I paid for it.

    Wonderful sharpener! I loved that I was able to remove the blade unit. My daughter clogged it by trying to sharpen a wax crayon, but your video showed me that I could get inside. I was able to clean it up with some metal skewers. It works like new again. Solid mechanism and great design for sure! Thanks for your video!

    This is the sharpener I use it's an amazing one ;) great vid Rix. I've sharpened around 5,000+ pencils with this and I have never had one (even round) pencil slip as you described. Nor has it lost any of that tension in the finger mechanism.

    I don't know if it helps in clarifying why it didn't come with the clamp, but in 4:04 it can be read in the box 「クランプ(シャープナー固定具)は別売りとなっています」 which means "Clamp (tool to fasten the sharpener) sold separately". Great video!

    Mitsubishi makes the best pencil sharpener. Almost 50 years ago, my father brought home a Mitsubishi hand crank sharpener and that thing blew any sharpener out of water. It was pink and the entire sharpener was made in metal except for the acrylic dust bin. It did come with a desk clamp. With the new KH20 which is plastic, I doubt it would last with a desk clamp which will likely put too much stress on the housing. I suspect that it is the reason why Mitsubishi does not provide the clamp with this new sharpener. Our original sharpener is long gone as we moved from Hong Kong to the USA. I still miss that robust sharpener very much.

      50 years ago things were made to last,you could change out blades and keep it a lifetime.....today everything is made disposable.......you sharpen 5000 or 10000 pencils , if lucky ...and you throw it away.....

    Can you tell me what Best pencil sharpener is for harder leads like 4h. I use a kum long point and after a few uses it seems to snap the 4h since its so hard. I was going to order the helix is this a good choice?

    • @RixCanDoit
      @RixCanDoit  3 года назад

      Usually it is the soft leads that get snapped by sharpeners. I don't have any trouble with many of my sharpeners and the hard pencils like the 4h. Sure you aren't being a little rough on the little fellas? :-) Instead of using a hand sharpener like the Kum, use a crank type or electric type. I review several on this channel. Check them out.

    So is there any tool to sharpen the helical blades inside manual and electric sharpeners? I cannot seem to find anything and as a teacher I am so tired of replacing expensive electric pencil sharpeners. I am thinking of experimenting with using a dremel to file the edge but I worry that I would have no way of staying consistent. It seems like someone could make some sort of tool with an angled file and a notch or something that would rest it at the correct angle as you scrape the blade moving up or down the spiral.

    • @RixCanDoit
      @RixCanDoit  2 года назад

      I'm not aware of anything. I've yet had to replace one but I can imagine it would be an issue for heavy use situations.

    This sharpener appears to make straight tapers. I like my Carl Angel 5 curved points better I think it exposes more graphite. Thanks for the review.

    • @RixCanDoit
      @RixCanDoit  7 лет назад +1

      I've compared the two and the KH-20 and Carl exposes the same amount of graphite. The KH-20 exposes a little more wood. Opening up both units, the Carl and KH-20 uses the same type of blades (drum with curved blades), although the Carl drum is shorter in length.

    Do you know of any pencil sharpeners that sharpen to a shorter more blunt point? I love how the prismacolor colored pencils come with a short point and have been looking high and low for a sharpener to do that... I do not prefer the very long point... hopefully an electric one? Any help will be appreciated

      AFMAT makes an electric pencil sharpener specifically for colored pencils and the angle is greater than a usual pencil sharpener, much greater than a long point sharpener, I believe it is 65 degrees, but don't quote me on that. The purpose is to make a shorter point and therefore waste less pencil when sharpening. I was just recently researching electric pencil sharpeners as I just took over an Elementary School Art classroom and the pencil sharpener in the room is broken!!!!! I will see if I can find the item I was looking at in my search history, but I am sure it was an AFMAT product and it mentioned colored pencils specifically and the explanation about extending the life of the pencil. Hope this is helpful to you or someone else, seeing your question was posted a year ago.

    • @RixCanDoit
      @RixCanDoit  7 лет назад +1

      JDvorak2009 Yes. As long as the pencil itself. Just use the KUM Masterpiece or Big Triple and you can remove virtually all the wood and sharpen the tip. But who would want to?

    • @JDvorak2009
      @JDvorak2009 7 лет назад

      RixCanDoit you're right, I wasn't thinking, I know nobody would want to sharpen the pencil so there's no wood left. Hahaha!

    FYI: I added this comment for the benefit of those who asked about the KH20s performance with colored pencils, more specifically, 'Prismacolor.' It does work!! very well i might add on Prismacolor pencils. 'Baylee Jae offers a nine minute video showing the KH20 sharpening Prismacolor pencils. A tad bit gigglish, but she gets the point across. I hope that i have been of some help to those of you who use colored pencils.

    I dont believe the spring will lose its elasticity..I am sure a company as HUGE as Mitsubishi would insist on the best metals go into their products. Mitsu. is actually into iron and steels mining and forgings..they are really huge.i worked for a Japanese company all through the 90's and some years after 2000's..I learned alot about what companies did in Japan, and the rest of the world.You have to hand it to the people., That little nation kept big ole America back and forced us to drop not one but two atomic bombs.,,they are resourceful, smart , make super high quality products.Great thing they are our Allies!.I absolutely loved working for them, we all did..But back to your question, a decent spring made out of an elastic steel, like spring steel. wont lose its elasticity unless it gets how, now that will make it lose some if not all after times periods..I was a tool and die maker so I know a little bit about metallurgy..But please do if you can find any other circumstances where one did, i can help you investigate as to what kind of steel.I would love to help you find ways to teach us even more..kinda like a knowledge bartering,,lol. you sir have an awesome channel.i am going to subscribe as of right now.thanks my new friend..do holler back at me now ok..Thx!!

      I have to agree with you, although I cannot deny that the overall design, except for lack of a desktop mount, is very well thought out. Which makes it all the more a shame that it’s made of plastic. If this were made in a good heavy gage metal, and had a desk/wall mount, it would be unbeatable.
