    The Masterpiece has the cool factor. I don't like the way the wood looks when you use it though. I like the wood to be shaved evenly. So I prefer the Longpoint.

    The long point I purchased also has Shapener holes on each side for clutch pencil lead.

    The blades are the same length on both models. The only thing different is the angles. One of the blades is offset on the Masterpiece but they are the same length.

    The Masterpiece seems to make a smoother job of removing the wood. I wonder if that's to do with it having a metal body. The blade placement is also very different.
    Price seems to have come down. I just bought one for £14 ($18) including postage. Great comparison, thumbs up.

    The KUM Masterpiece was my dream hand held pencil sharpener. Finally, I can't wait to use the all time best manual sharpener. I have a Dixon Ticonderoga 1388 pencils, and with the KUM Masterpiece, it will sharpen to the highest point ever. I enjoyed your clip. KUM masterpiece is #1!!

    Your videos are the best, it's hard choosing the right supplies for my fist year at collage.... Witch pencil do you recommend for note taking? I saw the blackwing 602 but is it good for note taking? Os there a better pencil for note taking in specific?

    • @RixCanDoit

      Absolutely! The 602 is excellent for note taking.

    Thanks for the comparison. It also looks like the Masterpiece performs a cleaner, more continuous shave.

    • @RixCanDoit
      @RixCanDoit  8 лет назад +1

      YW. It's a better cut for sure. Only issue is no shave catch but that's minor.

    FYI the masterpiece is cheaper than the Blackwing branded Long Point and the unbranded Long Point is almost a tenth the price of both.

    Does the KUM AUTOMATIC LONG POINT (multiple slots) have all the housing made of plastic? Or does it have any part made of metal apart from the blades?
    Which one sharpens a longer tip: the all-magnesium KUM MASTERPIECE (double slot) or the all-magnesium KUM LONG POINT 400-5L (single slot)?
    And compared to the all brass M+R CASTOR (single slot)?

  • @edl3156
    @edl3156 8 лет назад +4

    The length of the points are not a function of the lengths of the blades , but rather the angles of the cutting edges . One forms a more acute angled point than the other . Simple geometry .

    Both are the 2 BEST pencil Sharpeners,probably ever made! Do not avoid getting the Masterpiece,just because of the price and the extras the cheaper automatic one offers.Masterpiece provides a way better tip, stop can be removed for even longer exposed hraphite! As also it will last you longer and the feel is so much higher quality! I regret avoiding the Masterpiece for so long!!

    Dang. Just purchased the long point yet to find that the masterpiece was better. I chose the long point because online it was said to be #1 and the masterpiece #2. Guess I was wrong. Maybe I'll consider getting the masterpiece so I can compare myself. Great video by the way!

    Hey Rix, how often should I change the blade in my masterpiece

    • @RixCanDoit
      @RixCanDoit  6 лет назад +1

      When it gets dull and you find it harder to sharpen or it starts breaking tip. There just comes a point (no pun intended) when you can tell it isn't doing the job as before. That's when you would change it.

    The length of the masterpiece blades are the same, they are just positioned different, thats the reason the results are different.

  • @Ceme612

    But, the Masterpiece is high way robbery price wise :o) does it come with two extra blades encased in a cute curved body? Does it have a cute little Blackwing sleek logo? You can get 4 of the Iongpoints without logos (or 1 with and 2 without Blackwing logos or 3 with logos in different colors) for the price of one Masterpiece, how often do you sharpen to that tremendously long graphite point? Just saying ;o). I'm a hoot!!

    • @RixCanDoit
      @RixCanDoit  7 лет назад +4

      I love the Masterpiece. The KUM Longpoints are also good, but the plastic cover breaks off easily and doesn't make much sense to begin with as there isn't much room for shavings. Yes, the Masterpiece is expensive. But I do love the fact you can make really long points which I often need for drawing. The Big Triple will also do this for much less.

    I thought the Longpoint was better until you showed the removable stop tray on the masterpiece. I enjoy working with very long exposed lead (almost an inch) and till now was using a knife to sharpen my pencils - It takes longer to sharpen, the result isn't pretty and you can't take a knife with you on a plane or, at least in my country, even on a train. The masterpiece is much more expensive but thats the only sharpener I've ever seen that can sharpen pencils the way I like!

    • @RixCanDoit
      @RixCanDoit  3 года назад

      If you use this sharpener you'll get a long point. It's a battery operated one however. ruclips.net/video/mHqE8p8-qEE/видео.html

    I so wish I had seen this a few days ago. I just ordered the long point sharpener. I got it because not only was I hoping it could give me a long point but that I would be able to put it back in the #2 hole and repoint it without taking off more wood and wasting pencil. Is this possible? Mine hasn't got here yet. Wish I had seen the masterpiece instead. It looks like the LP isn't going to give me the long lead I desire. *sigh*

    • @RixCanDoit
      @RixCanDoit  8 лет назад
