Thanks for this video, dude. Thoroughly and concisely addresses all concerns. It's tough being a Ducks fan, but goddammit, that's my team. Quack quack.
Big time Ducks fan, huge fan of your videos! I personally like the temporary captaincy given to Gudas, as I think there is nothing wrong with sheltering Leo or whichever young gun steps up to take on the next long term franchise captaincy for a couple more years. Out of all the options available for a stop gap, Gudas's mentality on the ice can definitely lead the rest of the team in the right direction when it comes to playing with physicality, toughness, and heart. Something that has been missing from our team for the last decade. Letting the young guns stay focused solely on their own personal development, instead of having to take on a full time leadership role could pay off huge in the long run! Overall, it's really a exciting time for the franchise, and the hype for this team to finally turn the corner has never been higher. Go Ducks!
I've repeatedly said whenever I get asked why the Ducks struggle, that it is Specials teams that is the issue. I was planning on making a video about it but what you have here is better than anything I could make so I'll just link this when asked. Great video!
I feel so bad for Jackson Lacombe. The kid came out of college and played first line minutes on his off side in his rookie year and did *fine*. That is extremely impressive to be fed to the sharks and live. (Which is hilarious cause i remember the first rookie camp after drafting him he was by far the worst defensemen) But do I see a future with him? Between Minty, Zelle, Solberg, the left side is locked up tighter than when we had a young Fowler and Lindholm. Is he doomed to be traded? What even is his fair value? I wonder if he knows that even if he plays well he probably doesn't have a future here.
Totally agree. Big fan of Lacombe's game. It's never sat right with me that they haven't given him a real chance. I do fear he won't bring the return a player of his calibre deserves in a trade, just based on how he's been deployed. Unfortunate situation, but you never know. Maybe he makes himself an absolute necessity to keep. Uphill battle for sure though.
@@District5-YT After Preseason I just absolutely love Lac, I don't wanna see him go and do not think that letting him go in a trade will be beneficial to us at all.
thank goodness I found someone who's not as passionate about Gudas as captain. He's a good player, and I'm sure his voice is heard and respected in the locker room, but I don't think having a captain for a couple of years, before he goes away somewhere else, is the best option. We should aim for the long run here. Let's hope the young players don't adapt too much to his play style, since that would DESTROY our poor goalies.
With alot of the penalty issues Ive seen the reffs constantly be very harsh when it comes to the ducks and penalties. With there most recent preseason game against the sharks, in the third period it got a little messy with two players on the ground and I saw a sharks player check someone in the back while they were on the ground, but after review somehow its a 2 minute minor for the ducks plater sticking up for his teammate on the ground. Id like to hear your stance tho. @District 5
Diehard since 93, straight forward realistic breakdown of the current franchise thanx! So happy Newell Brown is gone (& gonna hurt the Kings lol), the powerplay already looks updated here n there in preseason when starters are playing. I think Gudas was a decent choice for the C cause he seems to be a good man, friendly well liked by peers on and off ice, and gives maximum forceful effort every shift, even while taking penalties ;) Zegras on the wing without injuries should see him back to 60+ points, Leo's so damn good, if injuries aren't a major issuse this seaseason and most the young guys take the expected incremental steps, eeeking into the playoffs should be a goal for the team. Future still so bright, lets start moving towards the light! GO DUCKS!
How do we feel about the future of coaching with the ducks? It is obvious Cronin won't be the coach of the future due to his more defensive play style probably won't mesh with the Duck's undersized duck-moving D. It seems like the writing on the wall is that Matt McIlvane of the current Gull's head coach is supposed to be the next head coach but I wonder if he will be the one. He is very young and inexperienced which definitely showed during the gull's season. A 13 game losing streak, a 7 game losing streak and two 5 game losing streak which made up 30 of the Gull's 46 losses last season. While terrible, if he can figure out how to break there long streaks there is a lot of hope for him. A morale coach can work in the NHL, look at Jim Montgomery but will he be what a young core ducks core need in 2-3 years? Maybe! Sorry this was way more rambly than I wanted, I just want a consistently good ducks coach and I'm tired of old school defense minded head coaches like Carlyle and Boudreau.
Honestly no clue. Haven't given the future of coaching much thought. But, the current crew better at least attempt to practice what they preach. Also, I hope they (for lack of better term) shut the hell up during games, because clearly the refs aren't fans. If not, I hope everyone is absolutely done being soft on these guys.
I do understand the want for Leo to take the “C”, but I like the idea of giving the kids time to establish themselves more as leaders. Give them time, let them find their voice and in two years one of them (MacT or Leo probably) takes the long term captaincy
lowkey wouldn’t be mad if a fowler trade went through for a right shot winger and a pick , that way luneau can prove himself and we have only one person (lacombe) playing his off hand, which he prefers i believe
Q1) The playoff drought will continue, but we will get more points. Q2) It will not become the longest playoff drought. Q3) We will get throttled by the elite teams, but knock off several contenders and pretenders; a healthy sophomore season from Leo could lead to a Calder Trophy for Cutter. Q4) The one way to get me to buy a jersey I find ugly is to win in it.
really identified with most of the commentary... except making Leo captain. i get your points on how he's leading by example exactly to where the team wants to go... but i think he's set as far as confidence, he'll grow even stronger with room to do so, and i worry a little bit about adding pressure (that might constrain his development) while he's literally still growing physically and mentally. he has better things to concentrate on than a captaincy. and... i think making Z captain likely saws off all the negatives in Z's game and turns him into the stats superstar he is on the cusp of becoming. or, it helps make the decision now, before Leo is ready, whether Z can make a good captain and the captain the team needs. sure, Syd was a great young captain, but as a counterexample, while Teemu has always had all the energy in the world for his teams, he also always had better things to do than C. i would prefer experimenting with Z, or maybe TT (though he seems to desire a step away from that position).
I think the biggest problem is that the way the roles work, Musty's only options are OHL or NHL. He cannot play in the AHL. With Smith and Celebrini, if they need a couple games a level down, they can play in the AHL. If Musty leaves juniors, he can only play games for the NHL team. Otherwise he's s.o.l. Even Luca Cagnoni, who was in the WHL last year, was able to sign his ELC and play for the barracuda this year, while playing some NHL games when he's needed or when he's ready. So, I think Musty will get his 9 game tryout in the NHL this year at some point, but it'll be another year until he comes up for real and starts showing how good he is.
Hating the orange is such an L take by everyone. The classic colors are great, but the orange fits best for what they’re trying to do. I’m sure they’ll have classic color alternates, and I’m totally fine with that
Outside of incredibly rare exceptions, making a 19 y/o kid captain on a team that’s risking a losing culture is a terrible idea and it’s why teams don’t do it, He’s still learning how to play against men. He needs to be taught how to be a pro before he can learn to lead. You sound young, which explains not understanding the value of a veteran like Gudas. Young fans see skilled rookies and immediately think they are capable of leadership.
agree with most of your video, but completely disagree with you wanting Leo to be captain. he's done nothing to be given the captaincy. instead of him earning it, you'd be giving it to him for no reason other than potential and where he was drafted. You're extremely overrating what Leo did last season as well. Leo would try to do too much on his own and nothing would come of it most of the time. he disappeared in the latter half of the season as well. And using Crosby being named captain at 19 to justify Leo being giving it is silly. Leo is not Crosby lol. and Landeskog has a MASSIVELY better first season than Leo did, so again not a real good comparable.
So putting in the most effort on both ends is "doing nothing"? I'm not saying he's Crosby or Landeskog. I'm saying that age doesn't make you incapable of leading by example. Landeskog played all 82 games on a team that had 88 points. Carlsson played 55 games on a team that had 59 points. The entire Ducks team was worse in the second half of the season than the first half, tanking made sure of it. Anyway, thanks for watching!
I’m attempting to become a NHL fan of my local Ducks. This was the most informative video I’ve ever seen on the team, thanks!!!!
Thanks for this video, dude. Thoroughly and concisely addresses all concerns. It's tough being a Ducks fan, but goddammit, that's my team. Quack quack.
Hey Goat just wanna say Everytime the ducks do bad I think of this video and come back to it to listen
This is really good analysis here, great work!
Honestly one of the best Ducks videos I've seen in a long time. Excellent work

I have a feeling Zegras is going to go off this year. I really hope he does and silences all the hate he gets.
Love your content man! Keep the ducks stuff coming, there isn’t a lot of places you can find high quality content about the team
No lies told here. Ducks fan here. Great video

5:48 Radko Gudas being the new captain certainly isn’t going to help with the penalties 😂😂😂
Another ducks vid? YES please. good stuff man

Agreed. I've rewatched a lot of the games from last year now. The Ducks have been on the wrong end of many soft calls.
Really good breakdown. Keep it up!

Ducks on top🎉
Zegras rules
New vid🎉🎉🎉
Heckz yes!
LOVE Zegras ❤❤❤🎉
I LOVEEE the orange on the jerseys, it looks so good
are you able to watch games this year w the new streaming service??
I agree with Leo getting the C but I don't know how I feel about him getting it this season. Couldn't have been a worse idea than Radko I suppose.

Jerseys are great, looking good in post season we’ll see how it goes
Honestly, I don’t mind the orange. Use the eggplant and Jade as an alternate

Too many young bucks on the team and not enough veterans to keep them in check or guide them.
