It is very risky to overheat the kutting edge and to ruin the hardening. Also if it is an expensive knife you may eat too much of the metal at one sharpening. This may work for a cheap knife or some machete but you still need to be careful and to have some "hand".

Sanding wings disk is the worst to use to sharpen a knife!!
Let me tell you the secret... You don't need to sharpen the whole 2 sides, only small bevel with a "hard, smooth" disk. Then the wax and polishing disk for smooth edge.
Try to use volt step down module ( if your angle grinder has no speed control button ) to reducce the speed to 4000/5000 rpm ( usually it's 11000/12000 rpm for 5" angle grinders !!) and regularly dip the blade in water to keep it cool and don't burn it ( and lose it's hardness ).
If you are patient enough... Wetstone is your best friend.

@@AstrixCloud as someone who makes knifes and swords sharpening a sword or a knife with an angle grinder will destroy it bo matter how skilled you are there are electric sharpening tools that dip oil or water during the sharpening process and keep the blade in good condition considering you know how to hold the sharpening angle a whetstone is the best procedure to sharpen a sword or a knife

I don't recommend this since the knive's steel looses it's hardness when it is getting to hot due to the too fast rotation!
Don't do this, you'll destroy your knive's blade forever!

Secondly, your knives will not last long taking off so much metal each time.

It can be done with enough practice and a light touch is all it takes, I lay flooring for a living and I use 8 inch scraper blades in my four inch scraper and break them in half because they're a thicker wider blade and I use a paddle wheel on my angle grinder to resharpen them back to and beyond their original sharpness, create a bur with the grinder and take my LANSKI BLADE MEDIC pull through sharpener and pull it through the ceramic a couple times real lightly to take off the bur and BAM,,, better than new and it looks like the factory grind, like I said practice and a light touch, PLUS I reprofile my carpet scissors with the paddle wheel as well, better to use one that is well used so it doesn't take too much off, creating the bur, take my small 3 inch flat diamond stone and lay the back of the blade flat and lightly take off the bur and you're back in business and if you run the bevel side on the stone as well like a knife for a few passes being careful to keep the bevel flat then lightly on the backside again and the edges wily e razor sharp, again,,, practice. I ONLY reprofile with the grinder when the edge is just absolutely gone and the backside of the blade is rounded off, but mostly sharpen with the flat stone to maintain the edges. But carpet is like sandpaper and eventually the backside will round off. I only have to reprofile maybe once or twice a year. Any knife should be treated the same way. Rarely reprofiling unless you get a nick in the blade or something but maintaining after a few uses and it'll last a long long time. I do the angle grinder freehand, locking your wrist and pulling with your elbow, no movement in the arm below the elbow to keep a consistent angle. Even with a light touch the paddle wheel cuts extremely fast so you have to be extremely careful, it's ALWAYS best to use a well used paddle wheel. A couple of light passes on each side then dip it in water to cool it off as not to lose the temper. HAPPY GRINDING LOL. If you're really feeling froggy, after all that then strop it but the polishing wheel will do.

Turn off fairness, a lot of people use Grinders in ways that aren't not necessarily the safest. You could use a drill with attachments and accomplish the same thing but for just 40 bucks you can get a sander from Harbor Freight and if you spend a little more you can get one that has a belt and a sanding disc on the side
