This one really hit hard, that brief second of Ruby asking Tai what was wrong... You know he was remembering Summer in that moment and is worried that Ruby is doomed to the same fate as her mother.
That was burnie voicing Tai still thankfully. I was worried about that since he left.

I honestly thought that Tai would be recast after Burnie left. I definitely don't mind being wrong about that, because his performance as the character is very underrated.

Rather than what other people believe as the origin for how Tai and Summer met, I think it is more Tai projecting himself and Summer onto these characters, finding them relatable to him and Summer.

I don't know about identical. The crossguard is different and the blade is a different color so probably a different material

back in the day matched swords were so difficult to get exactly perfect that people that dual wielded would always put the same sword in the same hand to keep the feel consistent, this also led to people that couldn't afford a matched set to just use completely different swords if they are going to have a side anyway, this greatly devalued matched sets. later on it became standard to switch them between hands regularly so the difference would never cause them a handicap in battle, bc in some cases it definitely could, this realization/evolution (well, rediscovering, Spartans trained everything ambidextrously bc of course they did, they are now immortal to time and everyone will forever know their name, their religion was kinda right for them, if that makes sense.) anyway this re-realization/evolution of training caused matched swords to come round circle and be the most popular and now technology could much more easily crank out very perfectly matched swords. kinda cool, and it makes simple sense, train ambidextrously if you are going to war, you might lose an arm and need to keep going, and its standard training for good militaries to this day.

@@dland6616 true however many story’s are not as they are told, they can have deeper meanings. Perhaps he felt like he never got to truly express his love, or never hadn’t yet realized how much he loved her until she was gone.

We saw a old photo of her and her team and she was smiling so im guess she was like that originally
The boy looks like Tai, and the warrior is like a cross between Raven and Summer. She says she'll only save the boy once like Raven does, and she disappears mysteriously at the end like Summer did, leaving the boy to protect the village alone like Tai was left to raise his daughters alone.
So basically, Tai is telling a story about the two women he lost.
For bonus points, Yang is in red and black and Ruby is wearing a white shirt, just like their mothers.

Taiyang (as in Tai) sees Ruby's mother, Summer Rose in 6:08, but in 6:11, Ruby has her mother's eyes as they match. He feel sad when he missed her when their daughters move on. In reality, when you lose someone love while your kids move forward, you can't do it alone. They will always be in your heart. 😇.

MCWDD wouldn't that imply that they were the same age and entered the academy together? It looks to me like she was quite a bit older. Plus he was reading it from a fairy tale book, though I guess it's possible he happens to have published the story.
Not saying it's impossible but it feels unlikely that they're them.

The Tai and Summer/Raven parallels are obvious but I am also reading some Jaune and Ruby parallels. I just hope Jaune and Ruby don't turn out a bittersweet tale like this one.
I like to think that this story is based on Maria’s adventures as a huntress. And that this is Ruby’s true inspiration to be a huntress. It all comes full circle

A wonderful fairy tale! I loved the interactions of Ruby and Yang with their dad. Felt a lot like an actual story being told.
The original story in the book has Owl Grimm, so it's a bit upsetting that they didn't appear. Still loved the episode.
Maybe they'll appear in the series, possibly serving as gargoyles on the Evernight Castle.
They also dropped the part about where it was implied that the silver eyes were used. Thought, given the change of storyteller, that's not to surprising.

I think Volume 9 may center on that fairy tale.

I like the idea of the fairy tales acting as Legends truth that what happened actually did happen but they've been passed down as history as fairy tales
I love the animation style, but i have ti say I love the most how the book describes in depths the stories. Also Oz's comments. Love it.
This animation style reminds me of Nomad of Nowhere.
I love that the huntress is a mix of Raven and Summer.
Lovely. Kinda interesting how the fairy tales tie into the main story, in there own way, mostly how history becomes stories, then stories becomes legends.

This one in particular was so cute!
I really like the set up of Tai telling this to Ruby and Yang when they're little. The part about the silver eyes and Tai's choked up voice made me sad too.
In the book, at one point in the story, the warrior actually creates a flash of light using her silver eyes in order to save the boy from the Grimm. It's technically not explained what happened, just that "a brilliant white light flooded the woods" and that "a moment later, the warrior woman appeared", but anyone would easily be able to figure out that the flash must've been created from silver eyes, and so that the warrior woman must have silver eyes. So it completely spoils the big reveal at the end that she actually had silver eyes all along. It's done much better here.
I had a nagging feeling that this was the story about how Ruby’s parents met. Yellow hair sand black hair was a strong sign as well as the fact the face of Summer Rose was kept hidden. Of course now I wonder why Summer left the woods all of a sudden. Of course, I’m sure she gave the answer to Taiyang when they met again at Beacon Academy.

That wasn't Summer. Tai and Summer are the same age and the Warrior in the story was years older than the boy.
This is actually not how they met at all. We have no idea how they met other then being class/teammates at Beacon.
The only reason this animated tale is different then the book in terms of age and the overall appearance of the Warrior is that they were trying to be symbolic with Tai reading it. In the book the Warrior is years older then the boy, she’s also shown to be POC with dark curly hair.

@@CryoJnik The correlation I drew was the hair, skin, and eye color match of the boy match Tai, and the female warrior matches Summer. But I admit I could very well be wrong, as this is just an observation after watching it once

I thought Tai was Jaune at the end of volume three and that ruby was in a coma for like 5 years.
I thought it was pretty easy to tell them apart. The most noticeable difference was tai’s chin. It always looked weird to me.

Thats how you drop a surprising bombshell...That ending shocked me...And after rewatching this, the ending was sad cause it made senses what happened to her after her face was revealed.

Did we just get backstory to how Summer and Tai met? Soon as he described her and then I saw that he looked pretty similar to the guy in the story, I started connecting dots
I doubt it was Tai and Summer. The story just gets Tai all teary-eyed because it makes him miss Summer since the boy in the story fell for a silver eyed warrior just like he did.

After watching this episode I wish we could've had different RWBY characters narrating each of these stories every episode, adds a really nice twist to it
Wow I love this! Tai telling the story to kid ruby and yang. This is one good way to deliver the story! The past episodes we just hear ozpin narrate and its mehh..
Imagine the parents or parental figures of rwby like Kali or Ghira, Klein, Pyrrha's mom, and Pietro reading the other fairytales to their kids aka our heroes.
It’s weird but I’m getting the same kinda vibes from those two similar to Ruby and Jaune in volume 1, where Jaune was questioning if he is a leader 🤔
The kid even looks like Jaune. He even has orange hair like saphron. Blonde hair was from his mother, I think.
Orange hair is the Arcs if I remember their family photo.

Even though the story has parallels with Summer and Tai, I can't help but think that the guy in the story looks like Jaune.

Thinking about it, you’d think Summer would’ve left a journal or something talking about silver eyes for Ruby to inherit when she’s old enough.
That assumes Summer knew anything herself before she died.
It's possible she activated her eye powers, it's possible she never once even came close to glowing.
This was my favorite story from the book 😊 it would have been better if they follow the story of the book BUT I’ll let it go because they added Ruby and Yang as kids 😊😊❤️
It is a shame they're shortening them down a bit, but still nice nonetheless to watch.

I think this is the first time we've heared Taiyand with a cheerful tone. I thought it was Church at the start of the episode and I was really confused.
The irony when Ruby has more personality as a cameo than she does as a protagonist hurts.

I would believe that, if not for the several similarities. It doesn't make sense to use characters in this story that look like a younger Tai and Summer. It's not like it's impossible for parts of this story to be true, and some parts not as Ozpin said when talking about The Shallow sea. There are actually many parallels to what we have been told about Summer in Rwby Proper.

Wanna see glynda again, she isn’t as broken as people say she is, (she is as powerful if not more though) but why can’t her character not be explained by just saying, “she manipulates dust with her Telekinesis which makes it look like magic.”

This really does bring some stuff into the light. Summer didn’t have anyone and wanted to shelter herself, pretty much had an empty feeling inside. But when she met and grew closer to Tai-yang, that joy that was missing from her life was brought back, and was given even greater meaning with their children, a joy she wanted to protect. And that strong sense of justice she had even before she met him was given a new and greater meaning, a purpose, and it was something she carried with her when facing Salem. Now that’s simple but effective storytelling at it’s finest

@@francisfatta Because this is a fairy tale, A famous Fairy tale in remnant. This Story was told by Ozpin in the book "RWBY: Fairy tales of remnant" which this animation is based upon. In the original book, the silver eyed warrior didn't even have black hair, it was a different design.
Whats happening here is that Tai probably is doing some projecting and imagining the characters as looking like summer and him, but is not them. The fairy tale is older than Team STRQ, and the silver eyed warrior in the story in older than the protagonist, which is not the case for Tai and Summer.
@@francisfatta You can check the other Fairy Tales that the animation is going to cover in the Wikia of RWBY if you want. Also, in the original story, the warrior actually uses her silver eyes againts the grimm at one point, instead of just fighting.
As one final point, Tai's projecting in the Fairy Tale is probably happening because he misses her, since its safe to assume that Summer at this point of their lives is dead.

This was so sweet! Tai thinking of Summer at the end gave me the feels. As far as the Warrior, those who don't like people nor like being around others often have endless valid reasons to believe and say so. That makes them the best kind of people to determine who really is good at heart; many times instantly. My only questions is, what happened to her? Was she, gone, or did she run away like Summer? There's a pattern of Warrior secrets. I would like to think she is still alive.
