I had a girlfriend that decided to surprise me by putting a new comforter on my bed for me. She was so happy for me to see it and I was very appreciative and asked what she did with my old quilt. She said she threw that ugly thing in the trash.

@mael8328 idk if the Playstation has it, but on the Xbox system you can save your game files to the cloud- it's great, cause you can play most games on just about any device (even tho its slower when your not on your system)
It's still fairly new technology, so theirs still problems with cloud gaming, but all my game files are secured too if my system got destroyed

I mean, it technically is destruction of property, if the guy really wanted to go after her for it. But it's a case of it just not being worth the financial burden to pursue. It's just easier to take the PS5 so you have SOMETHING left, and spending enough time away from her to figure out if it's worth reconciliation.
I guess his only hope is to pick up the pieces and see if he can yank out the HDD from the broken PS4 and place it in a fresh one. There is a non-zero chance that a hard enough impact broke the HDD innards anyway, but it's worth a shot.

I mean, most saved recordings would still be accessible on the Sony cloud right??? All the games that were downloaded went to waste but anything that is fully digital should still be accessible. Digital game copies whilst against popular belief aren’t actually fully digital. Yes, the game itself and the code for it is digital… but not what it was downloaded to…. If your console breaks, that’s the same as snapping all your games in half. Only difference is that you still have ownership and can just redownload on the new console. But that just takes so damn long.
This is why I have all my games downloaded to multiple different storage devices 💀💀💀

For all those confused, you can’t save or transfer your progress on ps4. You can only transfer it if the console with your progress is on, and she destroyed it. Another way is through the cloud but let’s be real no one uses that

My mom did something like this to my dad. In a fit of anger, she got his laptop while he was out on errands and bricked it. Completely erased the hard drive and all his backup files. Literal years of work. A book he’d been writing for nearly ten years, his living will, the assignments he did for his doctorate. Except she didn’t surprise him with a new one. I’m still mad about it.

Like sure thats bad, but he shouldn't have only had 1 copy, if it's actually important you should have as well as the original an onsite backup (something like a NAS, not a RAID 1 as that is redundancy not a backup) and a remote backup, the remote backup can be like google drive or whatever just something that isn't in the same building so if for example the house burns down or there is a flood and both the original and onsite backup get destroyed you still have the remote backup.

For those who don't get it: Imagine you took a bunch of photos and videos on your phone. Stuff that took time to acquire and may have sentimental value to you. Now imagine you didn't back any of those up to the cloud (for whatever reason) and someone comes along and smashes your phone to give you a new one. Great, new phone, but all of those pictures and videos are gone.
And that's what pain this man is feeling.
Even if the old one had no data, it would still be an extremely selfish prank. Electronics are expensive and could’ve been repurposed or sold.
All Ps stuff is linked to your account. It can all be transferred. Even photos.
The problem is a PS4 has exclusive disks and also have value.
Also don't destroy people's property. There is a fun safe way to do the same prank.
Get a replica PS4 and smash that, then reveal the PS5 and they reveal his PS4 you didn't actually smash.
