During our 2018 film take only four (!!!) Boeing 727-100 airframes remained in operation with commercial airlines worldwide, while not even all of them were in airworthy condition at this very time.
Logistics specialist Lineas Aereas Suramericanas gave us the unique chance to film one of their Boeing 727-100 cargo runs from Bogota to the Caribbean island of Curacao and back. On the way to the aircraft was heavily loaded with flowers on their way further on to Europe.
Our aircraft presently registered HK-4154 was about 52 years old at the time of the video take and with line number 162 it is even one of the oldest Boeing 727s ever built.
This airframe looks back at a rich history of airline operations, including:
Northwest Airlines (original buyer)
National
Pan Am and
Amerijet
An "old school" hand on, totally manual approach and landing. The focus exhibited by the pilot was so thick you could cut it. Love the sharp and deliberate movements of the yolk. This is called skill. Love the video.
Triggered by your description data...
Flew the 727-200 for 10 years (1978-1988)with Olympic Airways.
We had 6 units since 68-69, one of which, SX-CBF, (N7270L)was the prototype -200 mentioned above!
It was full of patched test holes along the fuselage , its zero fuel weight was 600kgs heavier (62,220kgs) than the other 5 normal production units(61,689kgs), also the cockpit layout switches were different.
We operated with JT8-9Dengines (14,600lbs thrust),and our max. take of weight was 78,220kgs....
Underpowered if you ask me ,but stil a versatile and lovely aircraft to fly....
Speed schedules for short , intermediate level flights were 300 or 350 knots! unlike other Boeings......
Made a record time once flying Athens to Santorini island, in 17 minutes!
Thanks for the upload , thanks for making me remember my youth.....(22 when i started flying it) :)
My Pops used to fly 727's and I even got to ride up front with him a couple of times when I was a kid.
I miss my Pops.
I must say that one amazing cockpit. Everything is 100% mechanical. Very smooth landing as well!
This is what i call "real flying"
I have a lot of admiration and respect for the pilots of that time. It is necessary to understand how difficult it was to fly passenger jets, at the same speed as today's airplanes, without the aid of computers from current airplanes, which even have automatic navigation and automatic landing resources. This landing on the huge B727, totally done in the do-it-yourself style is something that only few ones can perform properly.
These pilots make a difficult task look easy.
Epic!
That was a very busy flight deck compared to modern aircraft. Very interesting vid, thanks.
One of the nicest airplanes ever built. They had their hands full landing that 3-holer. Nice work, cockpit crew!
Spent almost 8 years flying the 72. Loved it!
That's awesome!
Great stuff! I remember working Alaska Airlines 727 freighters and I have pics of Alaskas last 727 revenue flight. My favorite airliner for sure.
B727-100 with the oval center air intake was a real hot rod of an air plane, very fast.
Thanks for the clip. He sure is busy on finals!
Man, that huge iron landed smoothly like a feather.
These are the pilots. Good landing and video. Thanks
there's is nothing most beautiful than 727
Old school.
I love this plane
With all that activity...that was one smooooooth landing.
Whaaaaaat!!!
Can't believe the skill of the officer.
Great effort, natural flier
Bogota altitude over 8000 feet. Exciting landing and must be intense to land there in the thin air....
Beautiful flying, great feel coupled to an oh so smooth and soft landing. Simply brilliant old school display. Compliments!
He greased that landing. Holy cow.
I would feel very comfortable if that pilot was flying the plane on my next trip, you can see he has become part of the plane, wonderful to watch.
Great video, i flew in a 727 in 1970 from Manchester to Barcelona
So cool the pilot was as though he was driving a car. Great job
Perfect touchdown!!!!
Hard work.. Beautiful job!
The amount of yoke input though...
I am not a pilot who flies planes or a armchair pilot who knows all so it really surprised me how many corrections have to be made when flying and the slow response the aircraft gives . You must have to anticipate and react before the plane does.
This was a recent video...Go-Pros...modern headsets...the 727-100 was built in 1965...very cool video...
Hell yea that’s what I’m talking about!!! Total control of attitude, complete frame of mind a well executed greased landing!!
My hat is off to you a job well done! Thank you GENTLEMEN …!,,
Love this video its the only one ive seen where you get a feel for the speed on approach. Great pilot at work 👏🏼👏🏼
That's a quality piece of equipment.
Thank you 🙏
That was cool!! I'd never seen the view from the cockpit!! Thanks for sharing!!
I’m a GA pilot IRL so the following nerdery isn’t only confined to my computer screen. I have a special love for the 727-100…my favorite x-plane model was a 721 and I flew that thing back and forth from Los Angeles to Las Vegas more times than I can count. Any flight sim enthusiast out there…that’s a great route. It’s short but it gets you up to altitude and you can use ANY airplane from a Cessna 152 to the AN225. Plus, the flight plans, departures and approaches in modern sims are really good. I don’t know if they’re *totally* accurate to the real world but they get you around the mountains, no problemo
👍Best landing video ever👍
that yoke input like F1 racing cars....
Damn, what an effort by those pilots! No fly by wire shenanigans here. 727 is my favorite tri-jet!
Amazing and thank you for upload.
Gym in the air!
This video is gold.
Smooth as silk. Amazing job.
Nice job, perfect land
*_Nice landing! Great video!_*
You guys were rockin' that TriJet! very cool video
Wow really working that stick
this had low bypass engines that made loud noises compared to modern jets. They used to carry mail and cargo in my country but was replaced with B767's and 737s. Amazing landing btw!
old but gold.....
You are the best trust me...i can't stop watching the clip
Particularly informative looking forwards to visiting again.
Very smooth landing! What an expert
One of the best ever built! Controllers loved them, they could slow down, go down, slip, go fast, whatever you needed!
GREAT VIDEO!!
Nice..!! Definitely a treat to watch.
A HAND FULL FOR SURE !..... Nice job of .....FLYING !
That was one smooth landing, wow
beautiful
727 un fierro en el aire... Excelente piloto!!!
Nice Landing👍🏻
Excellent 👌👌 Landing!!!!
the co pilot has full of flight skills
Top top work !
Very good. I watched five times 👍👍👍
The thing I remember most about flying cross country in a Boeing 727 was how rough they were in turbulence. You felt every bump.
Awesome Pilot because it takes some balls to land one-handed like if you were cruising around in your sports car especially in a 1965 classic like this that has no computer control like in today's planes.
Excellent landing
Great landing
Impressive!
Wow..... skills !
Loved it
Nice landing!
Talk about greasing the landing! That was smooth captain!
What a view from top in 1965. Never going to come back in real life. nice video.
Awesome
Airbusman will be amazed
Pure skill
Flying old school.
Nice one
Pretty smooth.
Wow, it's like arm-wrestling Sylvester Stallone.
I used to think the pilots do some little corrections at the landing procedure.
You can see how he struggle for the right direction. He really earned his money.
Nice
Super
Nice video and skills.
Niiiice job!
They floated for a while!
That was hard work 😓
And we think a driving test is difficult!
That is REAL flying right there! Unlike the crap planes we have today. Awesome video of how REAL pilots did it!
Great vid
Nice skill
Hola tremendo video exellent aterrisaje. Saludos
Back when pilots actually flew ...I bet many commercial pilots nowadays would love to take this beauty out for a spin...
quite a good old bus !
flying tractor :), good job guys!
Jeez is the aircraft that difficult to maneuver? He was about to break the yoke!
He had to FLY that beast
I like that!
I guess having those 3 engines in the back keeps the cockpit pretty quiet, eh?
great seeing the old school flight managment. Did the yuh have a flight egineer?
How #SMOOTH Landing wow 😱
