The reason Australian adopted 000 as the emergency number was because on the old rotary dial phone it was the quickest number to dial.

If weather is your priority south east Queensland. I'm ex Melbourne a great city I miss but S E Queensland has been my home for 16 years and the weather is absolutely awesome. ☀️☀️☀️

My mum immigrated in the late 60s, and she said to come to Oz, she had to be flexible, manage her expectations, and be open to trying new things. Thankfully, with internet many can watch these types of videos before jumping into the deep end.

Yes to this! Your Mum had the best outlook on it - there are expats who still don’t think like this, and it doesn’t work. It certainly is much easier for expats now though 🐨

I started watching your videos recently and I've seen other RUclipsrs doing similar things, but yours are the best. I wrote a comment in one of your recent vids that nobody ever mentions our skin cancer problems here and there you just did. Also your mention of the possible dangers of swimming here for tourists was very welcome. Sadly, it seems that most drownings happen to tourists who haven't researched the dangers beforehand.

You’re the sweetest, thank you 🥰🥰
It’s devastating how often we hear of tourists drowning, I can’t imagine what their families go through 😢xx

Australians tend to hug the coastline so Australia isn't that huge. Our Life Savers are wonderful. There are beaches in Darwin where you cannot swim because of the crocs. In summer we need to get back to a hat culture.

I wasn't allowed to learn how to surf, until I could prove I could do a certain activity in nippers, I only did it in y mid teens, but wish I had known at a much earlier age, I absolutely loved doing it and learned so much, including 1st aid, even if kids are scared of water, there's stuff they can do on the beach

Aussie kids are so lucky to have Nippers, it’s incredible 🥰🥰

    Regarding Snakes and Spiders:
    * On average, there are only TWO deaths per year from snake bite (from a population of almost 27 million).
    * In the last 40+ years there has only been ONE recorded death in Australia from spider bite.
*Anti-Venom for snake and spider bite is widely available across Oz too.
Cane Toads? Yes we all hate them, especially as they are NOT Australian natives, same as rabbits, foxes, deer, feral pigs, camels, water buffalo, and a few others, all non native feral pests.
As for the risk of fire and flood, it all depends very much on where you live.
    Cheers,

Those are great stats to put it into perspective, thank you for sharing 😊

    • @johnnewman366
      @johnnewman366 4 месяца назад

Yes, perspective is important, very important.
The threat of death from Australian wildlife is way overblown.
The worst is when people say they are “too scared to come to Australia because everything here is trying to kill you”, especially spiders and snakes, guess what? Other countries have deadly spiders and snakes, plus bears, mountain lions, alligators, crocs, lions, tigers, sharks, etc.
Mericans are the worst at saying they are scared of everything trying to kill you in Oz, meanwhile in the USA:
      * There were approx 640 mass shootings in the USA in 2023.
      * There were 40,000+ firearm related death in the USA in 2023.
Being an Aussie, guess which country I’m going to be safer in? And it ain’t Merica!
      So.....
The reason I bring up the wildlife question is because it was No 2 in your list, you emphasised getting on with the wildlife (which is good, we all should and do), but you didn’t actually say that the ‘risks’ are way overblown.
The vast majority of us Aussies live in the suburbs of big cities, and never come across snakes, deadly or otherwise, sharks or crocs.
Yes to there are plenty of spiders, but mostly harmless, and as I pointed out there has only been one recorded spider bite death in the last 40+ years.
You’re more likely to be injured or die falling off a horse!
Anyway, just trying to put the ‘wildlife’ question into proper perspective, ok?
      Cheers,
