I moved to Australia from the UK years ago, and I'd like to add my VERY short list (I feel is the most important) comparing living in Australia v's the UK ...
Here in Melbourne Australia, the weather is exceptionally beautiful. A VERY mild Melbourne winter is equal to a regular English summer.
English houses are VERY small, compared to Australian houses, most of which are terraces, which are all stuck together. You are living in a crowded envireonment, and can upset your neighbors VERY easily with such things as noise (teenagers etc) and there's limited parking (if any) for your car. Australian house (in comparrison) are huge, with big gardens (all around) They have their own garages, some are built into the houses which enables you to get out the car, open the door and you are in the house. It's true that public transport isn't as good here as in the UK, but when you have your own transport (a car) that isn't a problem.
That's is really, the very best of Australia, compared with the UK.

Nice video guys. I think for the most part you’re spot on, however, from several of your videos I think your assessments are accurate only for the Sunshine Coast - and several similar coastal areas around the country. Sunshine Coast is a lovely part of the planet, but It is VERY different to greater Sydney or greater Melbourne where public transport and nightlife and many other aspects are generally more comparable to London or Sam Francisco and other major world cities. I was watching a UK vlogger the other day who travels virtually all over the world constantly, and is back in Australia. She ranks Sydney especially, but also Melbourne and Perth, as tops among the best cities in the world. She also mentioned how costs in the UK generally are now pretty much the same as here - in particular food and utilities, with fuel being almost double the price it is here, but without the better wages to offset the rises - as you have also pointed out. Keep up the enjoyable posts - cheers.

I agree Paul. To overseas viewers, as an Australian who has grown up in Victoria and the large city of Melbourne I would like to just say (1) Australia isn’t all tropical paradise (2) Australia has megacities where people live and people love the hustle and bustle of urban life. (3) Prices aren’t as expensive in the bigger cities because of the volume of people and the bigger cities function 24 hours a day. (4) People love tropical paradises with space and perfect weather and other people love Sydney & Melbourne with their 24 hour nightclub scenes, their Restaurants, their Shopping, their Fashion Centres, their Arts Scenes and massive Sporting Precincts.
I’m happy the environment of Queensland suits Maz and Ben, but I’m sure there are Aussies who love the UK and either live there or want to live there.
Each to their own. No place on Earth is perfect. No place on Earth is loved by all its citizens or hated by all its citizens.

Great video. I’ve been to the UK and yep it’s easy to skip across to Paris or Germany etc. Obviously public transport in a place as densely populated as the UK, the size of the UK, and the bigger population, makes multiple transport options much easier in the UK. Public transport in Australia is expensive to set up for the small population and huge distances. The UK can fit into Australia over 32 times. Re shows and nightlife, come down to Melbourne and even Sydney for a week. All the big shows are in those big cities. To compare the nightlife of the Sunshine Coast and London (even Sydney or Melbourne!) is probably a stretch. Love your videos. You come across as such lovely people. Take care! Craig - Geelong, VIC.

Hi Guys always watch your videos as we came here 17 years ago from England and love it here. Just one comment regarding beaches in the UK, there are loads of them around the coast that are sandy and stone/pebble free unlike some parts of the south coast. Beautiful beaches around the north east coast too although it can get a bit parky there and the sea is cold. Love Oz life and so glad we made the move here to Lake Macquarie NSW. Keep on Bamming!

Agree with the list… transport is not the best in comparison. In the major cities like Melbourne (where I’m from) It’s mostly designed to bring people to work in the city during peak periods. Anywhere else and at other times we need a car, but at least parking is usually free and available.
Night life… Melbourne is not too bad, but we prefer our date nights at the local cinema or restaurant, quiet and low key. 👍😀🇦🇺

Melbourne is massively covered by Bus & Trains in and to most suburbs. The CBD is also covered by Trams which also reach out into early established suburbs. You don’t wait long for transport in Melbourne and we have many options to get around quickly. There are even some people in Melbourne that can decide each day whether to go to work, school or Uni by either Bus, Train or Tram. How many European Cities can say that?
I think Maz and Ben need a long holiday in Melbourne or Sydney which would open their eyes immensely to the urban side of Australia. That’s a whole new world compared to Queensland.

It costs me £650 a month to live in a studio... in the basement of a very old building in Huddersfield... 😢
You need to work full time in order to afford to pay rent and bills, so you get no time for any other social activities and not much money leftover anyway. I'm currently looking for work after losing my full-time job, and all I seem to find is part-time (8 or 16 hour contract) and that's literally not enough... and I live alone.
I've had my Working Holiday Visa for Australia approved in December 2021, all I'm doing is trying to save up just a bit more money so I can make the move by the end of 2022! I honestly can't wait 😊

    • @ggehh

Same here! I had my (second) working holiday visa approved in December 2021. Covid pushed me out of the country back in 2020 so I have a brand new one to reuse as part of their strategy to get people who were ‘robbed’ of their time there back. I wanted to return to Sydney as soon as February this year but I got cold feet 😂 Idk why… Rn I’m just saving up (Oz is really expensive) and looking to move later this year. Housing in the UK is completely fu***d up!

Hi guys Sunshine Coast is lovely. Mum lived at Buderim. I think though that as far as the economy, you may be in abit of a bubble lol Many people are now sleeping rough as rent is sky high and benefits don't come near to cover it. There is little social housing available so they are sleeping in tents, cars etc Yes wages are high but so is cost of living! Many families barely have enough left to feed their kids after bills are paid. It's lovely that you have found a comfortable way of life but sadly for many, many in Australia this isn't the case. 😢

    • @TheBAMFamalam
      @TheBAMFamalam  2 года назад +1

Thank you for sharing this comment, it’s a really fair point, and certainly not one that we mean to down play. Renters have certainly been hit hard, and locally to us there has also been the issue that there are more renters than there are rentals. We did mention in the video about rent prices and housing becoming unaffordable for many, which has caused many people to move away to different areas, but you’re right in saying that there has been many sleeping in cars also. It’s fair to say that many people in both of the countries mentioned have suffered financially over the past few years.

The transport problem mainly comes down to most of the population lives on the East coast of Australia. it wouldn't be viable to spend the money for the smaller regional country towns out West. Also for size comparison the United kingdom with a population of 68 million people will fit into the state of Queensland seven times. In Australia we have very large distances to travel between regional towns in comparison to Europe or the UK. Cheers

I see the tube network of the UK and am amazed at the connectivity there and proximity to Europe. I used to live in Sydney and use public transport every day so I've seen both sides. great video ,BUT Sydney and Melbourne are different to the Sunshine coast . Both cities are 4 plus million people so there is nightlife , and a different vibe , maybe a too fast lifestyle . Transport is different to Europe who have huge rail networks and lets face it Australia has 26 million people in an area bigger than Europe .One of the worlds busiest air routes is Sydney / Melbourne because there are so many people travelling the 1000 Kilometres . Life is different and Australian Weather wins .

Australia would have to beat Pomgolia in any competition , its the law . There's just no comparison , obviously you could say we have a different transport system but we manage to get around quite well , if you want to get somplace you'll find a way , you have to consider that in Pomgahnistan there are sixty five million people all crammed into a space not much bigger than the average Australian backyard , you need all that transport . Just to get away from each other . say that you could just hop on a train or plane and be in Europe , how often did you actually do it ?. My pommie sister is always banging on about trips to Benidorm Spain she loves it there because they have the best fish n chips and there are English pubs there , that serve Newcastle brown ale and proper food , not that foreign muck and there's always people from England she can talk to . You know by now that there's no going back , this wondrous place has got you hooked and us Aussie's are better off because your here and aren't whinjing because you had a chance meeting with a spider or snake or its too hot . And i bet when your having a feed of prawns and drinking that cold frosty beer and listening to your kids happy laughter you don't give pommieland another thought .

We wouldn’t change it for the world, and like you say, you just find another way. It certainly doesn’t take away from Australia’s awesomeness 🦘

Sorry yeah nah on lifestyle especially in new suburbs, there no yards. At best you have 1metre either side of the house and 3 metres front and back, a lot of the houses, townhouses come with laneways behind them. Look like they've got the makings of ghetto areas in 20 or 30 years time.

Nightlife - Population of London = 9.32 Mil. Population Sunshine Coast 400K. NO ONE moves to the Sunshine Coast for the Night Life. People go to the Sunshine Coast for the quiet life and retirement.

Yep but you have to remember that Australia is 32 times bigger than the UK or that the UK would fit 7 times into just Queensland …all that with 25 million total population……. Do you really wonder why there is not a train station at every suburb ?

We understood why when we gave it thought - sometimes when you’re so used to something you just assume it is the norm everywhere. It certainly isn’t a criticism 😊

you are not just nipping down to Paris for the weekend anymore...
...due to a certain lack of comprehension by a significant minority in England who never liked nipping down to Paris for the weekend.

Yous seem more happy or more relaxed than when you 1st came to Australia ..but l think including other countries besides England is cheating..thats naughty...and you need to travel buy car in Australia..distances are 10 x with 10 x less people so its probably why there is 10x less public transport available...anyway Australia won just like the cricket ...lmao

Haha it sure did! Europe plays a big part of life in the UK - from food imports to holidaying, which is why we mention it. We try to give an unbiased opinion, but as everyone knows we love Oz, and it's home for us 🦘

God! I thought the choice would be easy 9 months of cold dreary weather or 9 months of sun and beautiful beaches. Of course Australia is not sun and beach we also have lots of sun and lots of dessert. If you guys have not been to Uluru head out there, you will see large families of everything people, kangaroos, emus, camels and lots and lots of nothingness.

JETSTAR. Your never gunna get a great night out living on the Sunshine Coast, it's a quiet part of Queensland, I do love the place but you have to do the major Cities if your comparing it to London. Melbourne has plenty of theatres and things to do on a night out and is Australia's food, fashion, sporting, music and entertainment capital, Sydney and Brisbane have a good night life scene as well, I can't speak for the other States.
