  • Picture this-clear skies, scorching sun, and a crew with a passion for adventure. Big Q Aviation is our wingman on this journey, ensuring we glide through the sky with style and safety. We got to fly a Grob 103 glider and WE GOT TO FLY THE TOW PLANE! The super Cub was awesome.
    Major shoutout to the aviation legends at Big Q! They're not just pilots; they're dream-weavers, turning ordinary days into extraordinary adventures. Check them out for your ticket to the skies!

    If you can maintain altitude with an engine, you're a pilot. If you can gain altitude without an engine, you're an aviator. There's a difference.

    I feel this is something every pilot needs to do. total energy management! You will learn more in a sailplane than most pilots learn their entire flying experience!

      I couldn’t agree more. Gliding and Taildragger flying will defined make you a better stick and rudder pilot.

    Dang tailwheel and gliders, this guy must be some kind of pilot. I can't believe he has fooled all these people into thinking he's good pilot and knows what he's doing!

    Winch launches are far more exciting LOL..
    as a young person I was lucky enough to get about 18 hours of gliding in a Blanic when I was in the Australian Navy, almost solo but got posted before I did.
    It is great fun, I am sure glider experience would help all pilots.

    Glider charters? I’m in. I knew a balloon pilot who was called by some local fair, they wanted him to do balloon joy flights. Take off, go for a lap of the town and come back for the next ride. He told them “no way! There is only one pilot that skilled, BrYan somebody…”

    The ILS analogy was PERFECT. I truly enjoyed my glider flights and made me re-think my flying capabilities. First time I had to "box the tow plane", I realized how much THAT guy has to trust me .. which is usually not a good thing. The entire process made me a firm believer that all pilots need glider training. It makes you a better, more aware pilot and an, it is WAY fun!!

    Nice flying ! Very deferent than power flying, want more speed drop the nose. With the huge amount of adverse Yaw you become a better stick and Rudder pilot FAST.

    I'll give it a shot.
    Who decides who crawls out onto the nose, to untie the knot from the tow plane?

    I loved riding in gliders and tow planes as a kid. My dad and two uncles were heavily involved with the start of the National Hang Gliding and Soaring Festival out of Frankfort, Michigan. My one uncle ended up teaching the glider pilots during WWII down in Texas.

    Hey Bryan, one note is that the regs allow a Private Pilot to fly a towplane....even for compensation. See 61.113 (g). While most towplanes are high performance and tailwheel, there are nosewheel towplanes out there as well.

    • @JustPlaneSilly
      @JustPlaneSilly  Год назад

      Reading it now. Never would have imagined that would be true.

    • @wgmskiing
      @wgmskiing Год назад +1

      @@JustPlaneSilly I think it came from an issue with glider clubs. As you know, the FAA considers even "free" flight time as compensation to the pilot. So before they added this exception, a glider club couldn't have a private pilot tow even if they weren't being paid. Nevertheless most towpilots you meet are very well qualified, whether from training internal to the organization or lots of experience in aviation! And us glider pilots appreciate every towpilot!

    Our wives must be related; my wife gives me cool gift certificates for things like aerobatic training, spin training, etc. for my birthdays. A few years ago, she gave me a flight in a Grob 103 glider (along with a stock car ride). A very cool experience!

    • @johnopalko5223

      According to 14 CFR 61.69(a)(3), you need a logbook endorsement that you have had ground and flight training in gliders but a rating is not required. But, heck, if you're getting the training anyway, you might as well get the rating!
