- This is a Group-A match from the World Cyber Games (WCG) USA 2002 qualifier. It was a USA-only Quake3 LAN tournament, for the WCG Grand-Finals that was held in Korea later that year.
The event was held on Oct. 5th, 2002 in New-York City.
The players in this video are Victor "Makaveli" Cuadra (USA) and John "ZeRo4" Hill (USA)
The game is Quake III Arena + OSP (a mod for competitive play).
The map played is PRO-Q3DM6 / The Campgrounds
The tournament format is BO1 or Best Of One matches.

I sadly could not find the POV demo from Zero4 for this match.

I used a program called Wolfcam to play back the demos. Grab the latest version here: github.com/brugal/wolfcamql/r...
I also used a program called ReShade (reshade.me/) to further enhance the game graphics. These are the shaders that I used with it:

hearing wheat's voices on QPL final in 2022 brought up a storm of emotions
omg i see this match on live GTV... 20 years ago...
And I remember everybody 20yrs ago wanted to be you...ZeRo4himself ^^ gush gush :)
I do miss 15 min games.
No shame losing to Zero 4, makaveli needed to push harder at the start, he was owning zero 4 for much of the start but only got one kill from it putting very little pressure on zero 4 to commit to anything as he had so much time to turn it around.
But we have to remember this was 20 year ago ability Vs one of the very best quakers of all time. Easier said than done. But I think he gave Z4 too much respect at the start.
If he had gone 3-4 frags up, he could have really played that strat out and Z4 would have had to make more risky plays.
As it stood, he was only 1 frag down after being owned for 5 mins, that told him that as soon as he got control it was game over for Vic.
Great game memories, time, players all the same.
He seemed *very* intimidated by Zero4--which is fair. I would be too.
I agree that he played extremely passively--especially for having full control on dm6. There were a couple missed opportunities to extend his lead where he wasn't aggressive enough and didn't commit.
GG still though.
Makaveli = OG Quake 1 and 2 legend.

Anyone else find the HD textures is not really good? It has some nice stuff on some areas in some maps but overall it looks worse. I even spotted some stretched textures. Overall the maps look too bright.
It's okay. Quite a pleasure to see Quake3 in higher quality and HD definition. But yeah, any restoration can't be perfect. When you restore something from old era it won't be flawless. I think this video is still look decent for 2022.
@Jack Hammer I agree with OP, this video would look BETTER with its OG textures in 1080p, these new textures aren't as good looking. The visual aesthetic of Quake 3 holds up to this day imo.
@@jackhammer5683 There is no restauration to make, all the work was already done by idsoftware, every Q3A maps were remastered in QL with new more detailed shaders and more polycounts. Just have a look at OG dm6 and the QL version. Same for ztn, same for Aero etc, EVERY map has been remastered but no one cares cuz they play with picmip 16 like the geniuses they are.
