Hey Steve, I just wanted to congratulate you on hitting 100K subscribers. You are fully deserving of this as you are a great teacher, as this drill exemplifies. I'm going out to try it right now. Thanks again for all your efforts on our behalf.

Like this video Steve-great drill. You could also put an alignment rod through a range bucket and hang a head cover on the end !

Steve, thank you very much for this lesson. The set up reminded of a golf training aid that I had many years ago called the Inside Approach. Jack Nicklaus was the spokesperson. I was a much better golfer then and I will use your tip for improvement. I also will be checking the garage for the long lost Inside Approach.

I made a "holder" for a pole or stick by screwing a flagpole bracket to a small piece of wood (I think your mic stand is better because it is more adjustable). I can put a shorter stick in to keep my hands on plane or a longer stick with a noodle (good things these noodles!) and place the top end between my trail shoulder and ear (not quite touching) to help me to stop swaying or bobbing backwards. I tried to use this set as a guide or datum point to help me get my hands forward at impact but to be honest, the impact zone is so fast (no surprise), it's hard to see what's happening. You therefore have to do the drills as suggested and hope this improves your ball striking. As you say not every drill is for everyone - we all have our own journey.

Thanks Steve, I tried this using an offcut of a pool noodle I had. Stopped it to an old driver grip and supported the shaft to get it in position.
I hate the feel of swinging to not hit it and sure can cheat by going over the top. (The feel I hate is the sight of the obstacle in the downswing)
**** But the thing is I have be struggling lately with fats, thins, hitting the hosel and I bet you know what this drill did for me: clean hit after clean hit.
Hitting a bit left when I go for it with the driver sometimes with a draw or a hook. I Think I need to keep my shoulders closed a little longer, hopefully a bit more lower body forward in transition and waiting a bit more up top will fix it. Chunked a couple of short irons, I think it is the same problem.
So I mst have been falling to wards the target line or early extending because the feel of getting under the noodle is a winner for me.
Thanks again, Steve and to use an Americanism "Yo da man"

Cool drill, Steve. I was doing something similar the other day. My pitches were pushing up to 2 yards right and I wasn't sure why, so I tinkered around and realized my arms were pushing the club head outside the proper plane through impact. More to the point, how I fixed it was by performing a reverse figure 7 move like Mike says to do on the back swing. All my shots went dead straight and I was missing by inches instead of feet. For the first time I understand why people can misunderstand and think you are swinging the club left, you aren't really because the rotation of your body keeps the club tracking inside-square-inside on the proper plane. I'm not sure if this carries through to the full swing, I can only hit short pitches atm. But what do you think of the idea of someone trying to reverse the figure 7 on the follow through as a means to accomplish what you are doing in this drill, Steve? Just asking because I'm poor and only have clubs, balls, a backyard and a net hahaha.

Regarding setting up the basket: is the side of the basket that's closest to you sitting directly on the target line or slightly inside the target line? And also, about how far back should the basket be from the ball? Thanks.

Steve just put a hybrid/fairway headcover on the end of the alignment stick.
