It's worth noting that on the ultra, even though it has a 2.5G port, the switch can only handle a total throughput of 1G, so that 2.5G port is almost entirely useless and only the device itself can make use of full 2.5G (for updates according to unifi support lol).
Man I love my CGM. Added a U6 Pro and two flex mini switches for now and it's been great. I bought the no storage option max. I think it's great for $200.
I've realised why Uqiquiti never has any stock of anything, they've given it all away to RUclipsrs! 🤣 I fancy the max to replace my aging USG and Cloudkey Gen 2, but the 'no storage' version seems to be out of stock everywhere. But they'll happily sell you the '512GB' version for nearly £100 extra. Apparently it is possble to bodge in a drive to the no-storage version, but getting hold of it is the issue. Sold out in the UK, EU.
Funny the marketing extends to the packaging it seems. The gateway ultra and max are the same exact size but yet the packaging for the max is a good bit larger….. why?
A took the UniFi express on holiday recently and was very disappointed by its performance.First issue was that site magic doesn’t work 😢. Second issue was it keep on crashing. Third was the wifi performance was really weak. Really want a compact device to take on holidays and not have to setup wifi on all devices and still be able to access my servers at home. Maybe I’ll try and dream router next time but it’s not as portable or a cloud gateway and wifi device. UniFi need to add wifi to a cloud gateway to make an awesome travel router.😊
The specifications for the Max mentions - "Manages 30+ UniFi devices". Does that include cameras? (which in my case will be going to separate UNVR). My current deployment already has 20+ Unifi devices on an older USG-3/cloud key Plus. So I'll need some room for growth. Would you recommend going to UDM or Max?
Yes that includes cameras. Each device takes up CPU/RAM, hence the 30ish devices limit. If you have a dedicated NVR it might offload some of the work from the cloud GW, I'm not sure how true that is but I would guess it would have a beneficial impact
@@InsideWire POE, without POE these things are kind of useless. But it’s because I think POE injectors shouldn’t exist other than for integrating unifi devices into non unifi systems. For example I have my UDR at my mom’s house at one end of the house then a U6 lite at the other end of the house, POE powered. One wire. Easy and clean. Also I have the ability to add one camera or to power one of their small switches if I need to etc on any of the other ports. It’s just a no brainer to me. Without POE you’re adding switches and other shit making it now more bulky than the UDR or the device itself.

Based on this, I got the Max (without storage) and its ticking along extremely well

Its a good price, similar price to the cloud key as well.
UCG max is running my network with a 4 TB SSF for protect.
Nice! how many cameras do you have?

I purchased all three of these units myself, none were sent to me by Ubiquiti or any other distributer.

It has a power pack for the cloud gateway max. UK plugs are also a bit different so the extra space is needed.

Would you put the ultra before your Tenda router or after?

at 13:42 you said the cloud gateway ultra was the cloud gateway max.
top dog is still the UDR out of all of these
What makes you say that?
